  1. My prediction is that, even if he gets top 6 time, he'll fizzle out and land in the KHL eventually. Athansiou had crap minutes for the longest time and still found the back of the net. If a guy has so much skill as Jurco does, he should be able to convert it. This is just my opinion. We got a good return, considering Eaves went to Anaheim for a conditional 2nd round pick.
  2. The issue with Hanzal is that, while he is big, he's more of a playmaker. He's never cracked 20 goals in a season. He's also never cracked 41 points, either. We have too many players that fit this bill. He's also a center, and I don't think he's a top 6 forward, but more of a third line center. That would be great if we didn't have Helm already signed. If we could somehow get rid of Helm and sign Hanzal, I'd be all for it. I also don't know that this is the type of trade/signing that would make sense for a team that is going to be rebuilding. He's 29 right now and hasn't played a full season (81 games) since the 09/10 season. It's a hard pass, in my opinion. You don't want to spend assets, at least not the type of assets we'd have to give up to get him.
  3. Mantha is far more valuable than Fowler... this team has trouble scoring, and Mantha should only get better.
  4. I just hope, since Nyquist more than likely will get 6 games or so, that we bring up Bertuzzi or Lorito. Get some of those guys some time. I hope that we sell as much as possible, too, for the same reason. Look up Duncan Keith's high stick suspension and you'll get where I got the 6 games from. Very similar, unless Nyquist has a really good justification for how he accidentally looked a guy in the face and swung his stick right at it.
  5. This. This is exactly how I've felt since the end of last season about the coaching. They replaced the assistants, but that doesn't mean much when the main guy just isn't the right fit in this league. With the coaches that are available now, you'd be crazy to pass up on the opportunity, especially going into a new building and a rebuild. I just don't have any confidence in Holland to have the balls to replace the coach or do what is necessary to start the rebuild.
  6. Came here to read about Mrazek and all of page 4 has, literally, nothing to do with Mrazek.
  7. From what I've read on mlive, they're going to bring him back to Detroit to see the team doctors. The Griffins doc, after checking his knee out, said it appeared sound. They're classifying it as a "little tweak." It also said that him coming out of the game was more precautionary than necessary. Sounds like they think, if he had to, he could have played through it. In either case, it's unfortunate with the deadline coming up. I don't think they'd be able to trade him anyway, but still.
  8. I don't think Blashill is the answer, in any capacity, at this point. He has shown a surprising lack of passion or heart and it's clear that when your team is in the dumps and you finally get healthy, that if you are showing very little heart and drive, it has to be on the coach. Holland needs to move on from him now, so that we can get a possible coach in (Hitchcock, Gallant) that can prove what he can do down the stretch here and then they can make a decision in the off-season.
  9. You cannot let someone like Hitchcock get by... especially with the state of this team and the coaching staff.
  10. Well trade block has to include Vanek, Miller, and Ott, and Smith. They're all pending UFA's. id also put Nyquist, Jurco, Sproul, Ericsson, Dekyser, and Mrazek or Howard out there.
  11. Rumor has it that Vanek really wants to stay with Detroit. If they do stay in contention, I hope he's re-signed to 2-3 year contract. I also wonder about trading him so he has a shot at a cup with the understanding that he'd sign with us in the offseason.
  12. You're absolutely right. He's just not NHL caliber. He took nearly half a season to bench Sheahan, but Athanasiou has a couple of bad shifts and he's benched? Not to mention, he's one of your more explosive forwards and you play him around 8 minutes a game? Get out of here. Also, Larkin playing on the bottom 6 is just ridiculous. Glendening playing in the top 6 is also ridiculous. He regularly uses backhanded compliments about players to the media and doesn't show enough emotion in and out of games. Both he and Holland need to go. They need to make some serious moves.
  13. Halak went unclaimed... too bad we don't have the cap for him. We just had to have Paper Helm, or E. How has Blashill not been fired yet... it's ridiculous!
  14. Well he said both, and Holland actually controls who is called up/sent down... so, you know, like calling Lashoff up instead of Jensen or Russo. That was Holland. Blashill decides to keep playing Sheahan and not benching him like he should to send a message and light a fire, like any sensible and hard coach would have done long ago.
  15. I think there will be a sense of urgency going into a new arena. They need to sell tickets, and going into a new season being a .500 or less team is not going to fly with Illitch. I just hope that if/when they do make moves, they don't overreact.
