Yeah, that's the challenge really, for any of these players who are more in demand. They have to choose between going to a possible contender or a team that is in the early stages of a rebuild. It's tough, but that's another reason why I feel Yzerman has done a very good job of attracting the players he has. Ryan, Greiss, Stecher, Merrill, Namestnikov... They all very much seemed to WANT to come here, to be Red Wings, and help this team grow.

D looks good but I’m gonna throw in my preferred forwards line-up where a certain player is not included. 
 
Bertuzzi - Larkin - Mantha 
Fabbri - Namestnikov - Zadina
Svechnikov - Filppula  - Ryan
Timashov - Glendening - Gagner

I think there's a real possibility that the top line could be broken up.
I think Ryan is a lock to at least start in the top six, maybe even on the top line with Larkin.
I do think Fabbri will be the odd man out of the top six, whether that's at center or wing.
I don't think Nielsen will be a regular in the lineup, potentially bought out or waived.

At some point this year, I want Namestnikov and Svechnikov on the same line just to hear announcers fumble over their names
Really though, pulling full Svechnikov to at least get a call up at some point.. sucks that he had such a bad injury at such a key time. I hope he can bounce back and at least be some decent secondary scoring in the middle six.

I feel like Yzerman is done unless he has designs to move Nielsen, Helm, etc out still.

Man theres some players who arent bad left available who’ll come in dirt cheap ... if there was any way of fittng in duclair x1 it would be nice cause i think hed be capable of getting 25-30 and that would at least get us a 2nd +  (course if we take on a bad contract with assets scratch this)
Id be up for this one more ...  if yzerman isnt planning on bringing cholowski full time erik gustafsson would be a nice option x1 , capable of producing offense on the back end which we lack and if he can produce He’d be a good trade bait as well

I'm just happy not to have to deal with Jimmy "starts hot, gets injured, plays like garbage" Howard. He had some good seasons, but he was never going to be the goalie we needed, even if we were a contender at any point. For clarity, I'm not saying Bernier or Greiss are necessarily leagues better, but we all knew what Howard was going to offer in the last few seasons (after 16/17).

I love this because it was stated that he had TONS of interest and for him to knowingly go to a rebuilding team over a contender speaks volumes. Imagine this type of interaction once we are competitive and contending again.

Greiss, Johnson... that's the most likely scenario right now if we go UFA route for both. RHD is tougher with what's left. Maybe one of Vatanen, Hamonic, Ceci, or Pysyk? All RHD... although Ceci is a more defensive defenseman, I believe.

If Turris and Mantha have so much chemistry, then lets do it.  Right now, all of our projected top 6 players are interchangeable on the 1st and 2nd line.

Oh noooo! A defensively responsible d-man who immediately helps the current team in the short-term and helps younger guys learn and is only signed for a season. Oh, and he's only 28.

Feel free to elaborate and discuss. Turris is enticing because of how well he played with Mantha. Those two ripped it up last year together. I'm not against getting Johnson, but it would be stupid to claim him when they could sign him as a UFA for a less and shorter term. Yzerman's connection with him likely helps as well.
