    will wings retire fedorov's 91?

I've been a Wings fan since the 40 pt. 85-86 season. I saw their rise back to respectability, when just winning the first round was considered a decent season and losing to the Edmonton Oilers in the conference championship was an incredible success (I still have the highlight videos - "Just A Matter of Time", and "We're for Real!"...Classic!). The Wings then stumbled and fell from respectability (I blame the Oates-Federko trade - just an opinion). Their meteoric rise began in '91, coincidently the first year Fedorov really made his presence felt on the ice as a Wing. Obviously Fedorov isn't solely responsible for the incredible success the Wings experienced for a decade. I'll say this, if the powers that be at the Joe found five jersey's to retire for the Cup winning teams in the 1950's, there should be more than two jerseys representing the great team from '92-'02 in the rafters. If you follow that logic, Federov's 91 should be up there.

Jackets' Filatov records first career hat trick

He had Filatov up at the beginning, but must have felt some time in Syracuse would do him some good. After his success over the past two weeks, I don't see his return ticket being used. I have heard the comparison to the Big "O" in D.C. Would a comparison to a 20 year old Sergei Fedorov be a better one?

    Ryan Miller extended

    I guess it's pretty serious...

Lids & Oz on The Tonight Show...?

Their better than Fred Willard! Can't wait to see the new avatars in the next few days.

Lidstrom and Osgood, do they get their numbers retired?

I bring up Draper, as I said, not because of stats.... he just happens to represent the spirit of the team and organization for the past 12 seasons. Something all others that were mentioned only had a hand in, if that. Multiple Cups aren't won without a "career third liner" who brings a sense of purpose to the rest of the team. Draper has been that guy for more than a decade! People who don't think Draper is not that "good or important to the team" have seriously missed the picture of what has gone on for the past 12 years!

Lidstrom and Osgood, do they get their numbers retired?

It's tough to compare the players whose numbers were retired in the '50's to the recent Cup winners. Besides the no-brainer (Lidstrom), the next group to be looked at are Fedorov, Shanahan, Osgood, and Draper. Feds may have been the best player from the mid nineties through the 2002 Cup run. He played for 14 seasons with the club, has HOF credentials, and any or all of the Stanley Cup's may have been in doubt without his presence. Had he not left a sour taste in fans mouths, he would be as in as Lids. Draper may not have the stats, but he was/is part of the heart and soul of the franchise since his face got re-arranged by the wall on the Lemieux hit. He has a lot of x factors and should be considered when the time comes. Ozzie has some work to do. Another Cup run would cement his spot in the rafters, but he's almost in the ball park. Shanny had good longetivity with the club, HOF stats, and was a central core figure of three championship teams. He is my least likely candidate, but I wouldn't complain if his number was retired. These four do not have perfect resumes for ceiling consideration, but it also isn't right to have five members from the previous generation of cup winners and only two on the '97-2002 version. Get two or three more numbers up there when the time comes!

Your most memorable 2008 Playoff moment?

Favorite on ice moment in the Finals was the ceremonial puck drop between Stevie Y and Mario. Gave me chills! Yzerman was always considered great, but was never mentioned in the class of Gretzky and Lemieux. It was great seeing them lead their respective frachises, which they both helped to resurrect in the 1980's into the finals against each other. In other series, staying up with the 54 tired souls on LGW.com to finish off the Sharks-Stars game 6. My brother on the West coast only made it through 2 OT's!

    Remember February?

One could argue that the Feb. losing streak was part of the fire that forged this team together. A lot of depth was created during that bad stretch. Without the rash of injuries on offense and defense, guys like Mule, Helm, Lebda, Lilja would have been far less ready for the roles they would play. So many players were thrust into the fire that month with out the superstars. Boys became men.

    Thank you, Matt

Loved coming to the site, even on non game days, just to hear the latest goings on. It seemed several times information went from Kenny's mouth to trusted media sources (Helene St. James, etc...) to the website. Appreciate all the hard work and looking forward to next year.
