  1. Was that hit really that much after Selanne's pass? Often it seems like guys pass the puck then get hit. Whats the rule on this one or two seconds? It looked like a clean hit to me, he just got rocked but I still don't see how the visor cut him. Does it happen when the head snaps fast and the visor goes down while the head goes back?

  2. Man, nobody here is giving up the nhl.

Yes, the officiating is very frustrating at times but people need to keep in mind that hockey is very fast and things happen so quickly and the refs do not get the benefit of a replay like we do. It's real easy to watch these replays in slow motion then get all up in a frenzy over how weak of a call it was but when refs only get one chance to make these calls, in real time, and from only ONE angle, mistakes are goin to be made. The rule changes after the lockout just really make this much more frequent as officiating became a larger factor in the games. But to suggest that coaches should get "challenges" or that all penalties should be reviewable is complete nonsense. That would be horrendous.

Every year we go through this.

Yes because having the correct call be made would be truly "horrendous"

It's total "nonsense" in other sports when a poor call is corrected by reviewing it for 30-90 seconds...

What kind of "idiot" would want consitent calls in the NHL?

  3. I love Mickey Redmond. Ken Daniels has grown on me over the years as well and I really am dissapointed that they can't call every Wings game. My wife and I enjoy watching the game so much more when it's on FSN. The day Mickey Redmond retires from doing Wings games I'll be very, very sad. I did catch the call about someone getting caught with a "dirty hooker" last night lol. I hope to see them both again next season!

  4. +1

Totally agree. Lets slow down a fast paced game, maybe have 6 periods/ intermissions too... hell with that.

I think it's a great idea to give the coaches the ability to challenge a play be it a penalty or goal. It would probably make refs make less questionable calls making the game smoother and faster if they had someone looking over their shoulder. As it is now, at times it's a call every other minute slowing the game down instead of letting them play hockey. Other times they let them play hockey. If you let a team play hockey against a team that plays dirty like the ducks, most likely the ducks would come out ahead. Overall it's very inconsistent.

I just know I would rather have multiple people decide on a questionable call. Instead of one guy decide in a split second, in a fast paced game (Hossa's non-goal for instance). I honestly cannot see why any fan could not want this. Especially during the playoffs! The NHL wouldn't want to change it because then they would be admitting that they were wrong all along. Since they always "stand behind the decision of the ref", because they are the best in all of sports, blah, blah...

It's been pretty obvious to me that the NHL will attempt to keep games close and sometimes penalties come easier to the team that is ahead... Couldn't this be considered rigging the game? It is hard to watch hockey sometimes, but I love the Wings too much not to. I just wish there was something that could actually be done as a fan to give a coach the chance to challenge poor calls other than post on a forum. :(

  5. I disagree... I think he could do well on the 4th line rotated in at times if he's conditioned. I would think he's got a great locker room presence, and couldn't do any worse than Kopecky. I can't honestly say I've seen a lot of him since he's been back. We make all these excuses for people saying they just need some time to recup but when Mac stepped in for a couple games people were ready to throw in the towel on him. Maybe I miss the glory days vs the AV's too much. :P

  6. Hossa signing with the wings last summer. I was on the way to South Dakota and was waiting to see who Hossa and Sundin signed with. My wife checked the computer at one of the hotels we were at prior to leaving and came out all smiley cause she knew how excited I would be if we signed Hossa.

    and...

Watching Pav get goals and make his slippery plays on the competition.

The neanderthal in me does miss fighting 8(.

  7. After looking at that video a few times it really didn't look to me as he turtled. He just got his ass kicked, fell and was trying to get back up. Maybe he wouldn't have tried to get up if the refs didn't jump in. It looks like his hand is over his head somewhat as he gets up, trying to grab at the jersey or blocking a shot.

I expected the classic McCarty induced turtle 8(

  8. I would go with Mickey Redmond, Ken Daniels and Gordie Howe. I'm sure Mickey and Gordie would have plenty of stories to talk about but Ken Daniels could always come up with something regarding stats or teams the other two had played against. I get way more enjoyment out of a wings game when Mickey is present. I even find myself saying "holy jumpin" and "bingo bango" sometimes.

If I had to pick from the team I'd go with the grind line.

  9. It has college football on from 6:30-10:00pm, football wrap-up from 10:00-10:30, the wings and blackhawks supposedly live from 10:30-11:00, and redwings live from 11:00-11:30. I am hoping there isn't 4 hours of college football on over hockey. FSN-HD is also off air. The wings site does say it's on FSN-D so who knows.
