  2. It seems Dominik Hasek is taking a page out of Jaromir Jagr's playbook. The 47-year-old former Red Wings goalie who won the 2002 and 2008 Stanley Cups with the team is planning an NHL comeback, according to his agent, Ritch Winter. “He will play,” Winter said to ProHockeyTalk. “There is no option. He will play and he will excel and he will do all of the things he can do. “That’s his view of it. There’s one objective, and that’s it — he won’t fail.” Hasek retired in 2008 after the Wings' Stanley Cup run in which he lost his starting goaltending job to Chris Osgood in the first round. He started 40 games that season, holding a save percentage of .902. He also played for the Red Wings from 2001-04, winning the Cup in 2002, and starred in Buffalo from 1992-2001. He is a six-time Vezina Trophy winner as the NHL's best goaltender and won the MVP award in 1997 and 1998. The Red Wings have no interest in bringing Hasek back. But Winter is convinced Hasek, despite turning 48 in January, is still in prime shape to compete in the NHL after playing in Czechoslovakia. “He’s done all of the stuff you’d expect a NASA scientist to do before they go into a venture like this,” Winter told ProHockeyTalk. “He’s measured his reflexes, he’s measured his reaction time and it’s identical to what it was at the time he won a number of Vezina trophies. He’s actually 1.6 pounds off his playing weight at the Nagano Olympics (in 1998). “Who keeps records like that? I guess Dom. Who knows their body, does reaction time and reflex training and measurement? I guess Dom.” Hasek's NHL plan may not include the Sabres, however. General manager Darcy Regier told the Buffalo News that, despite meeting with Hasek, the team isn't interested in bringing him back. http://www.freep.com/article/20120713/SPORTS05/120713080/detroit-red-wings-dominik-hasek-nhl-return?odyssey=tab%7Ctopnews%7Ctext%7CSports
  3. If Rick Nash makes his way out of Columbus this summer, it likely won't be to a Canadian NHL franchise. The Columbus Dispatch reported on Tuesday that there are six teams he would be willing to be traded to - the Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings, New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins and San Jose Sharks. The news ends any speculation at this point that he could go to a Canadian team like the Vancouver Canucks or Toronto Maple Leafs. The Ottawa Senators were reportedly interested in acquiring Nash earlier this month. Nash, the franchise's all-time leading scorer, had 30 goals and 29 assists with a minus-19 rating in 82 games for the Blue Jackets this past season. Nash, 28, is signed through the 2014-15 season and carries an annual salary cap hit of $7.8 million. His contract includes a no-movement clause. Files from The Columbus Dispatch were used for this report. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=400350

  5. It appears that goaltender Evgeni Nabokov is willing to play for the New York Islanders this season. The veteran netminder told Newsday that he will report to the Islanders for the 2011-2012 campaign. "Yes, I do plan on attending [training camp]," Nabokov said in the interview with Newsday. "Now I will have full preparation for the season." The Islanders claimed Nabokov off waivers from the Detroit Red Wings last January, but when he failed to report, the team suspended him. "A lot of people speculated that I didn't want to go to the organization but that's totally not true," Nabokov told Newsday. "What made me make that decision is that I hadn't skated for a month and a half when they claimed me. They were out of the playoffs, but battling to get in and, as a goalie, I know the goalie position is important when fighting for position [in the standings]. I didn't feel that I could help them to get to the playoffs. I needed three to four weeks to get ready and the season would've been over." The Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan native was drafted in the ninth round, 219th overall, of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft by the Sharks. In nine NHL seasons with San Jose, Nabokov appeared in 563 games, posting a 293-178-29-37 record with a 2.39 GAA and a .912 sv%. In his final season, the 35-year-old posted a 44-16-10 record with a 2.43 GAA and led the Sharks to the Western Conference final where they were eliminated by the Chicago Blackhawks. http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=373039

No, No, NO! Jagr interested in Detroit.

Jaromir Jagr News: No Decision Yet As Talks With Red Wings, Penguins Continue Jaromir Jagr watch will continue until at least 6 p.m. on Thursday, according to Petr Svoboda, Jagr's agent. Svoboda spoke with MLive's Ansar Khan this afternoon and said this: "No decisions have been made,'' Svoboda said. "We're talking a lot. Nothing is going to happen before 6 p.m.'' Asked if he anticipated a decision today, Svoboda said: "I don't have a crystal ball. I don't know.'' Khan reports that Svoboda is speaking to both the Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins, as well as other teams. The Montreal Canadiens have been mentioned as being in the mix before, so it's possible they are one of the other teams in contact with Jagr's agent. A team from the KHL could also still be trying to lure Jagr back to Russia for another season. Svoboda said that there's a chance Jagr's decision could be made on Thursday at some point. There are obviously no guarantees, but Red Wings general manager Ken Holland has said before that he wants a decision before free agency opens. Considering free agency starts at noon on Friday, time is running out. http://detroit.sbnation.com/detroit-red-wings/2011/6/30/2252863/jaromir-jagr-news-no-decision-yet-as-talks-with-red-wings-penguins
