I read that Howard was outplayed by LARSSON in camp. Good if you're Larsson, not so good if you're Howie.

Don't get your hopes up to high about the Griffins. Last year everybody thought they were going to score like it was going out of style and win the Calder Cup without breaking a sweat. The success of this season for Grand Rapids will depend on how quickly the 1st year pros do (Larsson, Pyett, Kolosov, Emmerton, Mursak, Leino, Abdelkader, etc.). Howard not letting soft goals in every other shot would help. Alot. One more thing: "Hat Trick Dick" is playing in Sweden this year!!! He will not be in Grand Rapids until next year at the earliest!!!

I can't disagree with ya Majsheppard but I would like to see Downey make the roster. Downey should get the spot because nobody will mess with us if he's on the ice.

Hey, maybe we'll see Downey kick his a-- this year like McCarty did.

For the love of God, let's hope Babcock or Holland or whoever is making the decision on the 13th forward has enough common sense to keep Downey on the roster ALL season.

I was browsing the web and I found this: Will Derek Meech Become a Thrasher? The Thrashers are lacking in depth at defense right now. A single injury on the blueline would result in Nathan Oystrick or Grant Lewis getting a call up. Both are prospects with no NHL experience so far. Last year the team carried Kwiatkowski as their insurance policy in the case of long term injury on the blueline. I was already thinking the Thrashers might be in the market to pick up depth defensemen and then Kevin Allen writes that the Thrashers "hope to land another defensemen, possibly even unrestricted free agent Marek Malik, although they are considering other options." Now this might seem like idle speculation, but past history indicates that Kevin Allen and Don Waddell are on good terms and speak frequently, so I'm thinking he got this straight from the GM himself. Allen goes on to highlight players expected to be moved during NHL training camp: Ducks D Mathieu Schneider and Sharks D Kyle McLaren. I'd like to toss out another name that does not appear in Allen's article, Red Wings D Derek Meech. The Wings have re-signed Chelios which now gives them 8 NHL defensemen who must clear waivers. Now it is likely they will carry 7 out of camp, and there is some chatter that Meech might be dealt to get them down to that number. Will the Thrashers make that deal? Personally I'd rather see them go after a youngish defensemen like Meech and see if he flourishes with more ice time in Atlanta than Malik who is getting up there. According to Ranger fans, Malik's play slipped badly last season, although a number of stats still show him as being effective. _______________________________ I personally hope Meech stays with the Wings. He did a great job this year when our defense health- wise was in ruins and we had to call up Ericsson, Quincey, and Stafford.

Detroit could use more defensemen... No Really! Picture this as our defense core: Lidstrom, Rafalski, Stuart, Kronwall, Schneider, Lebda, Chelios, and Meech (or Quincey). Not that we have the cap space. Either way it's gonna be a fun year.

I think that when it's all said and done... Jimmy Howard is our goaltender of the future, just like they said he would be. But, then again, Daniel Larsson could very well push Howie and possibly earn the future starting job. Who knows? Also, let's not forget that Thomas McCollum was considered the best North American goalie at this years draft so, he could to very well be in the mix in the long run. Only time will tell.
