We were better when we couldn't buy a call. This team is lost on the power play. Call up Mantha you clowns. No he's not Mike Bossy, he's not "the answer" (whatever that means, has anyone said that before Holland?) but he sure as s*** brings some creativity. -

gdt ECQF Game 1 Post-GDT: at Tampa Bay 3, Red Wings 2
Number19 replied to vladdy16's topic in General
Instead of going on about what went wrong I'll just say Richards and Green definitely stepped up and they have been stepping up all down the stretch these last couple weeks. Green was our best defensemen tonight and Richards might have been our best forward (I'd imagine playing vs Tampa is a nice motivator). -

All signs point to we should lose this series based off the regular season we had. However, maybe it's about time we had a postseason where we performed better than the sum of of parts? Remember all those first round exists with cup favorite teams? I wouldn't mind making up for those with a nice little run here. Tampa's got injuries and the next round is either NYI or FLA, they aren't totally world beaters. I don't see this team having any hope against the Caps or Pens but we can beat these other squads with a some luck and everyone producing at max level. Nyquist and Tatar reverting back to 2015 versions of themselves would go a long way. -

Always nice to see the Euro Twins together. -
Marchenko sometimes reminds me of DD-light. I like him but I don't think we can have another non-physical(DD is decent physically) no offense dman. But I wouldn't be too bent out of shape if stays on the team for a while. On an individual basis there's things I like about most of our defense. Together they aren't just aren't a good combination. A true number 1(or at least an elite 2) would remedy a lot of it, Kronwall has to go back to the 2nd pair.

The Hawks already have 3 Cups, they can go away now. Time for them to have an LA/MightyDuck/EDM series.

Free Press: Pavel Datsyuk to return to Russia following Playoffs
Number19 replied to jdwheelz's topic in General
This year his production has fallen off but he's still the best forward we have. Last season he was 6th in scoring based on PPG, ahead of Malkin and Ovie. Maybe he woulda cooled off if he played another 19 games, but for the time he was on the ice he was the 6th best offensive producer in the NHL. This year he's fallen to 58th sandwiched inbetween the Sedin twins and Wayne Simmonds. Big number, but he's still our biggest point producer and best two-way player. He's lightyears above anyone except Larkin. -

Terrifying prospect to say the least. They aren't even two-way players, which would excuse their offensive production a bit. I'd say Larkin clearly becomes the best forward and leader on the team once Datsyuk is gone. -
There's no point to this. No one in their right mind expects this team to go anywhere based off the last half of the season we've had. This lineup failed multiple times to secure their own destiny against nonplayoff teams and the AHL Ranger squad. There's a win win with using Mantha and AA and that's valuable playoff experience (with Datsyuk's final games no less) and at the same time maybe one of them has a breakout series. This 23rd ranked offense is not going to get us anywhere. With our normal lineup I wouldn't consider any of the lines "solid" besides the 4th line that barely gets to play. Maybe Datsyuk's line is decent, but at the same time the potential could be so much higher without stonehands Helm and Richards. Who is supposed to finish on that line? Datsyuk and Richards are pass first playmakers and Helm is a grinder.
-
It'd be the only possible reason anyone could believe a top 6 of Helm, Richards, Z, Abby, Larkin, and Datsyuk is gonna do any damage. Clown show.
-
We crawled on all four limbs while bleeding into the playoffs. I'm with you, I don't want to rely on our vets and to grind out some gut check victories. We just lost two of those games in a row, it doesn't work. The only reason we're here is because Boston sucked harder and two young guys carried us through 65 percent of the season before their tanks dried up (Larkin, Mrazek). The vets with their 23rd ranked offense didn't get us here.
-
Tatar is just as bad, I'd say worse this season. If Tatar isn't shooting he's either overstickhandling, offsides, or falling on his ass in the neutral zone. If you don't play AA or Mantha them they'll never learn. We have nothing to lose, you think this roster is a cup contender as is? The only way we're going deep is if two or three of our young guys have a breakout postseason. Either way they get crucial experience.
-
Jeez..and yet there were 7 teams that scored less.
-
Philly looked good vs a lot of teams that had little to play for but made our clownsquad look like the 2008 Wings. I think the Caps get their s*** together and win in 5.
-
3rd line looks weak defensively but I agree these are close to the best possible lines. I doubt we even see Mantha though unless it's 6 min on the 4th line. Today in the 3rd period the grinding trio of Helm - Glen - Abby looked really good. Larkin - D - Z also looked potent with a couple close misses on scoring chances. I've also felt that Richards and AA have had a quiet chemisty throughout the season whenever they're on the ice together. Richards has some crafty passes that can help AA break out through the neutral zone. If I see the classic Abby - Z - Larkin, Helm - D - Richards, etc I'm gonna lose my mind. There's a reason the first period sucks every game and it's because of those horrible combinations that haven't worked all season long. Just don't let me wakeup into a nightmare world where Blash's reasoning being these are the lines that got us to the playoffs. Better not try anything drastic after limping into the playoffs failing to control your own destiny.

Who will finish as the leading scorer for the Red Wings 2015/2016?

Now we're the roster of hasbeens and grinders with a star goalie (wait...) that upsets allstar teams in the first round. Revenge!
