So about ESPN and their hockey "knowledge"....

Did something change in the way teams get points? 101 for the best team seems incredibly unlikely.

U.S. beats Canada 5-1 in junior hockey exhibition

Perhaps this is the USA's turn at dominance the way the Canadians did a few years ago. Canada will always be favourites, but they are in a sort of retooling phase where they don't have the same talent as years past.

Red Wings to Officially Retire #5 on March 6th

I had to do a double take when I saw the date. Thought there was a 2 before that 6. Well deserved by Lids though.

    Bruins Re-Sign Rask for 8yr, 7m AAV

For the short period since signing, Howard has done fairly well for his money. Probably not enough time on contract to really say he lived up to it though. 7M is just too much for a goalie in my opinion as well.

    Brunner Contract Talks

This was the beginning of off-topic posts that had me confused as to which thread I was in.

    RFA Watch

Just Wondering what we are going to do to re-sign our RFAs: Nyquist, Smith and Andersson I think we should work to sign all three, with Andersson having potential to be lost. Smith probably should stick around, I think he's better than Lashoff still. Only 2.3M$ left for these 3 guys before trades.

    is anyone happy right now?

I think I'm satisfied. I was up in arms at first with Alfredsson but then realizing that Cleary is gone it's not so bad. Weiss is better than Fil statistically, and we have a group of young guys moving up. Samuelsson will likely be traded or waived before the season starts I would expect.

    Blackhawks Letter of Appreciation

Caught this on Facebook from a friend who's a Bruins fan. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/chicago-blackhawks-buy-thank-ad-boston-globe-photo-145324573.html Thought it was a nice gesture by the organization, certainly something deserving of respect.

Jonathan Ericsson - should we consider trading him?

I was under the impression that Smith was in need of being re-signed still. So this may be a little premature. Also Ference is a possibility but again we have no way of knowing if he will sign with us. Just a little premature to trade Ericsson if we aren't fortifying our Defence.
  10. This is the internet, your opinion is factually incorrect. Personally, I was expecting 2.25M, so it's not too bad an overpayment. Kindl played like he deserved it this year, hopefully he lives up to it and beyond the way Howard did after his signing.
  11. My decision is to walk out of the office. I just can't justify any of those trades, regardless of the fact that it's the best player in today's game.

    Vote for Datsyuk!

Read some of the comments and they are very anti-Datsyuk. Biased Wings fans have to push the vote vs. anti-Wings fans.

Paul MacLean won the Jack Adams

Care to elaborate? (with regard to MacLean, not too concerned with the other two) Personally I think MacLean did what the Jack Adams represents: got the best out of his team during the regular season, dealing with losing 3 star players, arguably the most important players to their team, is taken as evidence that he was able to deal with adversity and therefore coached his team to the best they could do with the available roster (which is why I think Babcock should have been considered as well)
  14. I am extremely confused... there was 3 minutes without a stoppage or something? Hoorah for the 5-4 lead, but weird sequence of events.

    Wow... Danny Cleary

"Holland also said today that Jimmy Howard played with a pulled hamstring at the end of the Anaheim series." Another warrior for us. I know it's not as serious as some of the other injuries, but to play as well as jimmy did says a lot.
  16. Officials barely called anything, regardless of how I was disappointed in the lack of boarding calls mentioned earlier in the thread. I thought these refs were the right guys, Stephen Walkom I think was the lead ref? I have always thought he was a good ref, along with O' Halloran (Holmstrom/Detroit bias aside, although I have to say he hasn't been as bad as he was) We lost because Chicago was the better team, and that was probably because of their talent. I'm proud of the Wings.
  17. I think they need to get stronger. Not necessarily bigger, just stronger on the puck and more guys who fight into the middle of the ice. These guys have some real good talent imo. If we had a legit top 6, an effective Filpulla and 35 goal scoring Franzen, we definitely would be in Round 3.
  18. At least 3 times the Hawks could have been called for boarding. The refs just didn't want to call it. Aside from the extremely disappointing series loss, these Wings are real good. Great experiences this season, but hope this teaches them the need for the killer instinct.
  19. Yea, that answers my question. Thanks. My entire hockey watching career has involved those killer Wings. Now it's a little strange to see them struggling. On the bright side, 8 series wins!

    Fraser's take on Penalty Shot

I've begun to notice that when Chicago is behind, they play with a man sitting in the neutral zone awaiting that breakaway pass. It's an interesting strategy that seems to work for them. I do not think the play should even have been a penalty, but what gets me riled up is the complete inconsistency and the way the refs react to the team that whines, or dives. Chicago players, Hossa's a great example, have been so weak on their feet these past two games. It's infuriating to watch the Hawks flop around hoping for a penalty call. Yes my perspective is biased, but the refs were brutal last night and I was yelling at them from the first penalty.
  21. Since 2008 the Red Wings have been considerably worse at closing out series. What stats do you have on that? Just curious...
  22. I was fighting that thought of having it in the bag, seen too many late goals in these playoffs. But got to agree, we had it. Feels great to be up 3-1, one more win boys. Let's make it happen!

Another reason why Red Wings fans are awesome.

I don't see anything wrong with that. I think it's something of a fun factor for those people. Everyone enjoys the experience differently, and signs might just be their way of adding another element of fun to their viewing of the game.

Dats has no talent according to this guy?

TSN has a top 10 about Pavel Datsyuk this morning, perhaps a shot against CBC?

    Griffins close out Marlies

Just came over here to post this. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/marlies-eliminated-after-blowing-lead-to-griffins/ Looks like the Leaf organization is going to focus on keeping leads this off-season. Good on our young guys though! Hopefully they can keep winning.
