  1. From Wikipedia:

In Canada, the term "college hockey" refers to community college and small college ice hockey that currently consists of a varsity conference—the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) -- and a club league—the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League (BCIHL). "University hockey" is the term used for hockey primarily played at four-year institutions; that level of the sport is governed by U Sports.

  2. Something interesting I've found at this point of the season:

Tonight marks game thirty-nine in the current schedule.

Results can currently be put into one of two buckets, a Close Decision Game (CDG), decided either way by 1 or 2 goals or a Decisive Decision Game (DDG), decided either way by 3 or more goals. Since the 2005-06 season (because of the introduction of the shootout), a game result can only be one or the other, with CDG plus DDG being equal to the number of games played. Prior to 2004-05 and back in the day of tie games ('member them?), CDG plus DDG plus Tie games would equal the number of games played.

At this point of the season, after 38 games, the Club has a CDG total of 33. All-time, this is one more than at the same point of the season in both 2008-09 and 2015-16.

Currently, the Club has a DDG total of 5 after 38 games and this is where it gets interesting. This total is one fewer than the following seasons, in chronological order: 1936-37, 1940-41, 1959-60, 1986-87, 2008-09 and 2014-15, making 4 tie-game seasons and 2 shoutout seasons.

Note: The interest level of others may vary.

  3. I am surprised by this news. Until now, Seattleites' priority in professional sports put hockey at the bottom of their list.

Fun Fact, via deadspin dot com:

    Quote

There’s an expansion fee—$650 million, which is $150 million more than Las Vegas paid. (Deputy commissioner Bill Daly said the fee is different because of the market and because of inflation.) Basically, this is the same process that prefigured the Vegas Golden Knights’ birth, and barring anything unexpected, this feels inevitable.

  4. I'm guessing that this story, regarding some long overdue "statistical housekeeping", has something to do with NHL 100

From the CBC: Rocket Richard's points total rises to 966 after having assist restored.

It's not as if any great injustice was done, but Montreal Canadiens legend Maurice Rocket Richard getting an assist added to his prodigious NHL scoring totals.

Six years of poring over scoresheets and summaries of games between 1917 and 1987 by an NHL statistics team has found and fixed more than 6,000 bits of information that were overlooked or misregistered in the league's early eras.

    ...

    Also of note...

Finding little gems of information like the Richard assist was one product of a massive undertaking to update and modernize the league database, which is to be re-launched this week.

  5. OK, I've dug up some history.

Starting with yesterday's game, two rather unusual occurrences will be taking place:

    1) Due to the re-scheduling of the Away game of 19/12/2016 v. Carolina to 27/03/2017, 5 games will be played in the same calendar week for only the third time in Club history. Previously, it had happened in both 1954 and 1970.

    2) Again, because of this re-scheduled game, 3 consecutive games will be played for only the sixth time in Club history. Previously, it happened in 1953, 1959, 1964,1971 and 1976.

    That's all I've got.
