Of course I watched the video. It was a blatant head shot. It's a problem in pro hockey. You can ticky-tack it all you want, doesn't change the fact that the kid was knocked unconcious from a blow to the head. But don't let me stop you... continue arguing the validity of the hit.

Seems like everyone agrees that he's not physical (I did read that he was in an NHL Draft Scouting report, btw...good guess). The guy from Carolina saying that he's worst defensively than Rafalski really puts it over the top for me though.
Bring on Jovanovski for a one year deal I guess. Maybe our top 6 forward signing will be a righty that can man the point on the PP.

I haven't seen a lot of Carolina games in the last few years, but I'm really liking what I'm hearing about Joni Pitkanen, and I wanted to hear what the board thought of him.
He's young-ish (27). He's big. He's physical. He's solid defensively. He's got a lot of offensive talent. And he sort of seems to be flying under the radar, so he might be had at a reasonable price. It sounds like he's had consistency issues, but the Red Wing way takes care of a lot of that stuff traditionally.
I'd rather have Bieksa or Ehroff, but I think that both of those guys are going to get priced out of Holland's range for them. Kaberle's too soft for my taste. And Wisniewski kind of scares me as a 'one-hit-wonder' guy. Jovanovski I wouldn't mind I guess. But Pitkanen could be a long-term piece at 27 years old.

But there are 1/2 dozen threads already comparing all available options and combinations, and like I said, you specifically asked about people's thoughts on one player. Don't get mad at him because he answered your question correctly and it made you look stupid; get mad at yourself.
I need to just stay away from your threads because I don't agree with the way you think and your crappy replies you give to people. (Not to mention that wanting Holmstrom on the 4rth line shows you really don't get it--it's never going to be 2002 again--the 4rth line has a different job now, and he can't perform it).) I used to join in all your line threads, because i could look over lines all day long, every day. People would give you crap all the time, but I kept joning in, until you gave me a real unprovoked and uncalled for crappy reply on one of my threads. Now I just think you're a dick that really doesn't understand much about hockey at all, or people for that matter.

I'd say it's implied that we're not just talking about Salo in a vacum, we're talking about him in comparision to other options. If you rip a guy apart like whoever did, I'd hope that you have a better option in mind...and I'd genuinely like to hear about it.

Salo is a right-hander.

He's big (6-3, 212...though not all that physical), solid defensively, moves the puck well, has a monster right-handed shot from the point, seems to be the odd man out of the Bieksa-Ehrhoff-Salo equation in VAN, made a reasonable 3.5mil last season, and at 36 years of age, might be willing to sign a short one or two year contract that doesn't tie us up long term. Durability seems to be the main concern.

Some defensemen can be big and soft while still being effective. He's not one of those guys. If he isn't using his size, he's basically useless from where I'm sitting. And he rarely uses his size. Ever.

Big deal, reach is useless when you are confused with your back to the play. I hope they send him along.

Name ONE THING that Draper has done in the playoffs the past two seasons that makes him "valuable". Besides his faceoff percentage, which is above average at best, and his speed... which has been declining steadily.
