Even though they say they're hungry, I'm worried about having had such a long break. If the boys play a full 60 minutes, I say 3-2 Wings. If they look like they are still watching baseball, I say 4-2 Canucks. I'll be going tonight and will be rocking the "old man Lidstrom" jersey in 218A. Go Wings!

Yeah, Stuie was not doing too well last night or Friday night. Right now, I'm not liking his pairing with Kronwall. With Kindl excelling, do you think Babs might eventually shift him to the 3rd line and move Kindl up to the 2nd? I'm really liking the speed, as mentioned above, the team is showing right now. I hope it continues for the rest of the season. Plus, the infusion of a little more youth is definitely wearing off on some of the older guys, especially Bert, playing with Helm and Abby. I loved those set ups last night and Friday night created by the speed of Helm and Bert finding the right place to be at the right time. I can't wait to see more of that this season.

Homer's a healthy scratch. Patty's in instead.

Nick is looking like the only one who really knows how to play defense out there, along with Kronner and Kindl somewhat. Can we stop making these half-assed passes too? Tigers on a rain delay.

Copy cat! I got my #5 WC jersey signed in the exact same spot. Nick did a nice job taking his time signing it, so it looks really nice too. Got it signed at camp this year.

Tell the Illitch Family to Drop "Presented by Amway"
Miss Wing Queen replied to WingedWheeler1319's topic in General
I don't know much about Amway or it's ethical nature. However, I agree with those that said this is more so about the business end of things. First and foremost, this team is a business, and just like every other business there is a budget to be balanced between income and expenses. Do you think the tough economy does not hit a business like Ilitch Holdings in some way? Part of it is the nature of sports in this era and it being infiltrated with overwhelming sponsorship, the other part is that they have to meet their bottom line or expenses will have to be cut. I, for one, would rather suffer through excessive advertisement (as much as I don't like it and think it is distasteful for such a tradition-steeped sports team/franchise) than have to worry about cuts that could affect more important things in relation to my team: keeping/hiring quality players, providing them with the best equipment/athletic training, team transportation and safety, etc. The deal so far is for three years. It may just be a bridge until economic issues improve and the need for extra sponsorship income is not needed as extensively. But keep in mind, Amway (while being the most obviously advertised) is not the only sponsor this year. You have to include DTE, Quicken Loans, VolunteerEnergy, and previous ones like Belle Tire, AT&T, Kroger, Meijer, Better Made, Tim Horton's, State Farm, Miller Lite, and the DMC. It can be an eyesore to our arena, but in grand scheme of things, I'm just happy to be able to watch my team compete night in and night out. All that other stuff just fades into the background when players like Lidstrom, Datsyuk, and Zetterberg step onto the ice. -
Was at the game last night, which had a slight deja vu feeling of last year's opener (up until the third period). Overall, I'm loving what I saw from the AHB line, great to see Emmerton's drive caring over from the preseason, and Kindl doing great on defense. Really enjoyed the goals by Bert and Lids (who was definitely doing the Datsyuk Dangle out there). I wish though, that even though his family couldn't be there, that they would have honored Salei as well as McCrimmon. I was surprised there wasn't a moment of silence for them, although it was very touching that they gave the family his jersey. I also like the nice touch of the team wearing a patch with all three of the men's initials. I think there is a great opportunity for growth and change in the areas that need them this year, and it will be exciting to see what comes to fruition. Go Wings!

Started the season off by going to the home opener last night and can't wait to see what we do against the Avs. It's great to be a Detroit fan right now, but I really need PIP because I'm going to be switching back and forth between the Tigers and the Wings. Hope to see a more complete 60 minute effort out there tonight. GO WINGS! GO TIGERS! P.S. Definitely a nice touch having Rusty and Beast in the game day banner. Do I also spot poor Mursak in the injury banner? You can just see the pain in his face.

What is up with this blacking out of preseason games bulls**t. You would think these were the damn playoffs or something. -
9/25 Pre-Season GDT: Chicago Blackhawks at Red Wings

I'm not going to say what I'm thinking, but I'm sending a box full of these for the team to wear all season long. Get well, Jan! Tough break for him (no pun intended). -

I'm really liking certain lines this preseason, but I wonder when Babs will switch everything up again. By the way, this is the first season I get to watch the Wings in HD, and I'M LOVING IT!! God, hockey is beautiful in high def. -

Very nice tribute for all those who died. Very classy NHL. Just wished I would have had enough warning to grab some Kleenex. -

So glad this is on FSD today. It's great to see the young guys play at camp, but seeing how they do in a faster pace against players who are not their teammates is a whole other story. If Babs continues with the rotation he has been doing, I believe the White team (Zetterberg, Fil, Lids) will be playing tonight. I know it is preseason, but I hope the team begins to gel a little bit better for the lines. It would definitely save some time at the beginning of the regular season, that is if Babs doesn't change 'em all up again as usual! Go Wings, go! -

Sorry about the radio feed. I was hoping it would be the one because my radio doesn't come in clear. -

Thanks. Tried the Flyer's website, but it said it was not available for my area. -
Wings using a new font on the Jersys?
Miss Wing Queen replied to Z and D for the C's topic in General
I'm also waiting for the question of "Did Datsyuk change his number to 24?" even though there is already a post about that too. -
Seeing "GDT" on LGW is so exciting. Preseason is two days away for the Wings, and the regular season is two weeks away! Woo hoo!
-
Overall, he makes Ericsson look small (and not just in this picture).

Heading up this evening. Hope to meet some of you here from LGW! Training camp is the best!

On Wednesday, about an hour after hearing about the crash, I was thinking about Joey because I knew he was certainly heading to the KHL before signing with the Wings at the last second. He may not necessarily have signed with Lokomotiv, but in some way, his life was saved. My heart goes out to Brad McCrimmon's and Ruslan Salei's families, as well as all of the families of the other victims. May they find the peace and strength to survive the loss of their loved ones.

This can be fun and frustrating. To me, it's a puzzle to solve. So here are my answers. I pulled out three years of autographed memorabilia to check. I'm sure on all but 2 of them. A----Darren Helm B----Henrik Zetterberg C----Mike Babcock D----Ville Leino (?) E----Kris Draper F----Dan Cleary G----Tomas Holmstrom H----Jason Williams I----Joey MacDonald J----Brett Lebda K----Chris Osgood L----Jimmy Howard M----Jason Jozsa N----Valtteri Filppula O----Mikael Samuelsson P----Ty Conklin Q----Brad Stuart R----Brendan Brooks (?) S----Jonathan Ericsson T----Matt Ellis U----Jordan Pearce V----Evan McGrath W----Ryan Oulahen X----Kyle Quincey Y----Tomas Kopecky Z----Jakub Kindl A2----Kirk Maltby B2----Pavel Datsyuk C2----Jiri Hudler

I'll be there for sure! I may be in one of three "outfits"--my red Ozzie jersey, my WC Lidstrom jersey, or my Howard t-shirt. You can usually find me out by the autograph fencing with a big group of friends I stand with each year or every now and then venturing in to watch the practices. I will have a black Red Wings backpack too. I would love to at least briefly meet up with any LGWers to say "hi" and introduce ourselves. If anybody wants to hang out, that would be good too. I'll be there early Saturday morning until Tuesday or Wednesday. I'm hoping to also fit in nine holes at the resort, since I've always wanted to try their courses but never brought my clubs up before. You may also find me on the TART trail biking around. Less than two weeks! I'm counting down the days . . .

'Cause we sure know the marshmallows (especially the jumbo kind like Meijer sells) aren't one bit healthy! I would definitely say my favorite of the two peninsula's is Old Mission. There is one part on the main road up there where you are on the top of the hill and can see both bays. God, it's so gorgeous. There are also the two lighthouses to visit. As for being on the water, in '09 I rented a jetski (very hard to come by after Labor Day) and rode in the West Bay nearly up to Old Mission Peninsula. It was such a great trip. As I was still heading out, I saw something flying at me and realized it was a huge jet that soared so low above me. It was so neat because it was just me on the water and nothing else. Also for down time is kayaking. You can kayak on the Boardman River or nearby Crystal River by Glen Arbor.
