Three of Four Officials for USA/Canada Game From Canada
lightthelamp13 replied to CenterIce's topic in General
this thread is so jokes. you'd think people forgot where they are posting. We are all Red Wings fans here, so why the hell was the last time a Canadian team won the cup brought into this? And because Steve Yzerman, the walking image of what Canadian hockey is all about, plays on an American based team, we can't like them? people need to relax. Americans like their country for reasons, we like ours for our own. the conclusion to this Olympics is bittersweet. The total number of medals vs the traditional "Most Golds" as First place. USA vs. Canada. And to top it all off, Canada can set a new single Olympics gold record with a win over.....you guessed it, the United States, in Canada's own national sport. Beauty. Lets get at er. -
you guys ended our drive for 6 straight World Juniors on our home soil......time to repay the favour in the game that REALLY counts.

Is Team USA going to be THE best program in the world by 2014?
lightthelamp13 replied to a topic in General
I guess comparing to another country is a good way to assess how you're program is doing. But with the Americans, I would think that getting better every year is their goal. Doesn't really matter what the other countries are doing. but, anways: Nash-Crosby-Stamkos Heatley-Thornton-Carter E.Staal-Getzlaf-Perry Toews-Richards-Duchene extras: jordan staal, john tavares, taylor hall. Doughty-Myers Weber-Green (barf) Keith-Seabrook Phaneuf? Luongo Fleury Ward Crosby will only be 26. That is mind boggling. Him, Stamkos, Toews, Getzlaf, Carter, Perry all in their primes. The entire defence too lol. P.S - when it came to the World Juniors, thats where Tyler Myers decided which country to play for. He said that he felt that Canada was much much more important in his development as a hockey player, so he chose Canada. When you think about it, it's actually pretty surprising. Most players take the opposite route so that they have a better chance of making a team. -
as a Red Wings fan, have you not heard that excuse before? "oh our team didn't play our game, but wait until game 2". When one team is forced to play the other team's style of play, things change big time. Whether if be puck possession with the Red Wings the last decade and a half, or the grind of the Canadians. When one team inflicts their will against XXX team, XXX team is going to have to play THEIR (team inflicting their will) game. The Russians couldn't match what the Canadians brought to the table. in my opinion, if Canada played Russia ten times, and both teams brought their "A" games every time, Canada would win ten times out of ten. It's not super super praise to the Canadians, it's just how soft I felt that Russians were. God dammit, stop being such ******* and go into the corner first and make a play.

They learned a huge lesson from the game vs. the Americans. Who cares how you score your goals? They were way too cute at the start of the tournament, and now they are back to classic Canadian puck. To win big games, you gotta muck. You gotta get dirty, and you can't be afraid to get a bloody nose or lose some teeth while doing it. Yes, the Russians played terrible defence. But it wasn't because "they have no defence". For the first time in the tournament last night, the Canadians used their SIZE to dominate. They just kept chipping pucks in and went to work. That Morrow/Getzlaf/Perry line was incredible. Just mucked it up and kept the puck below the goal line for MINUTES at a time. They even got a full line-change in a couple times while doing it. That is crazy, and if the Canadians keep doing things like that, nobody will be able to contain them. There's a reason why, entering the tournament, most countries were worried about the size of the Canadians. About time they started using it.

couple comments here about "nobody being able to cover Ovechkin": couple candidates: 1. Drew Doughty 2. Shea Weber 3. Duncan Keith - Chris Pronger rode the pine last night against GERMANY. I don't think you'll see him on the ice against Ovie unless on PK. Drew Doughty, although playing absolutely awesome, is still so under-rated. Time for an international coming out party.

with the amount of ice time that ovie/geno/jizz line is going to get, i think the biggest factor is how that line plays without the puck. i wouldn't be surprised to see them play a lot against the getzlaf line. and for those who expect that line to be dominated by the ovechkin line...you are probably wrong. it may be an even split down the middle, who knows. but point of the matter being, that russian line has to play defence. especially with the commitment to team defence that the russians have. the russians don't have 13 pavel datsyuks. with that, i'm curious to see how this turns out. the ovechkin line may not only be canada's worst nightmare, but the russian's worst nightmare as well with the level of depth in the canadian roster. they will get caught, and those 2 wingers don't...oh whats the word i'm looking for.....backcheck. it's a toss up. but in a view point with no bias....Canada wins 4-1. The way they lost to the Americans....just....changed something. P.S - I hope the Russians lose because of the KHL. You know how there are about 4353453535 people always crying about Crosby? What's more bothersome....that? or Russians going off about"how good the KHL is" because the Russian roster has a handful of those guys on it? You already have that airhead Radulov going around talking about how the KHL is a better league than the NHL. I couldn't live with it. It would drive me insane.

hey guys, sorry I don't know how to post a youtube video, but here's the link: - yes, it involves crosby, but it's a well done bit of research/number crunching by this guy lol

I hope Babcock uses his horses big time tonight. This is probabaly a wrong way to look at it, but why not use them for huge minutes tonight? You need the 2 points....badly. Plus their energy level is not his problem for the next 2 weeks. Especially with no Filppula. Split Pav and Z up and let them log minutes. Big minutes.

DETROIT -- Update from the Detroit Red Wings' morning skate Saturday: Center Valtteri Filppula will sit out tonight's game against Ottawa due to a sore groin. Filppula said it flared up on him in Thursday's game in San Jose. He is hoping to be ready for Finland's first game at the Olympics on Tuesday. "I'm concerned,'' Filppula said. "I definitely want to play (in the Olympics). I want to play tonight, too, but we'll have to see how it is. It's much better today than it was yesterday.'' (MLive)

Filppula out tonight with a tender groin.

Washed up Sergei Fedorov centering top line for Olympics..
lightthelamp13 replied to bconnan's topic in General
Iginla - Crosby - Nash Perry - Getzlaf - Staal Heatley - Thornton - Marleau Toews - Richards - Morrow/Bergeron that can't compete with the Russians at all? Hell, that 2nd line alone will abuse the Russian's D. and i think playing fedorov on that top line would be a big mistake. he was a legend here in Detroit...but his last couple years here in North America...he was a big bum -
D-E-P-T-H. Pavel will come. And you're going to HATE him for it. P.S - chill on the stats. they are irrelevant when talking about zetterberg and datsyuk.
-
I agree with you here. A lot of people, mostly Columbus fans, talk about how Nash has played so well in the "biggest"games of his life being in the World Championships. That is true, but at the same time, I seem to remember him pulling a nice dissapearing act at the Olympics in Torino. (Along with the rest of the team) But you nailed it on the head. First playoff appearance for the franchise, donning the "C", Nicklas Lidstrom, it just doesn't add up into success...I hope.
-
did i read here that it's Datsyuk who's been given the assignment of covering Nash? Whatever, it doesn't matter. Datsyuk or Zetterberg, we'll more than likely see the same type of thing from them. But what my point....that is phenomenal. Yeah, Nash kills us whenever we play, but having him go up against one of the euro twins is basically just like reducing his minutes. Nash plays the PK, but it's way different than 5 on 5. Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg are obviously going to be on the offensive, so that brings Nash into playing a whole lot of 5 on 5 defence against that line. More time in his defensive zone, leads to a lot less time in our offensive zone.

sure, Nabokov was great towards the end of the Dallas series. He stood on his head in game 6. I wouldn't say for the entire series though. I remember him letting in a couple softies in the first 2 at the Shark Tank that led to a 2-0 series hole. I'm not hating on Nabokov at all, I think he's a great goaltender, but his major flaw, IMO, is he tends to let in softies here and there. Thats good and dandy and not too bad in the regular season, but that's what kills and deflates team in the post season. Some around here may look at Robert Lang as a perfect example. Even the Ribeiro goal from behind the net vs the Sharks in game 2 of that series last year. I'm hoping it doesn't happen this year....I want the Wings to handle the Sharks in a legit fashion...it's just been an odd trend.

from watching on TSN's feed last night, that puck hit the Mule's stick and went right to Filppula.

HATING on the sharks right now. -
haha, thats kind of funny. lol but after what was an embarassing Saturday night, coupled with 2 days off to think about it....my condolences go out to the entire Phoenix Coyotes organization, and their fans. well, at least thats what should happen in this game...a beatdown.
-
Sid, is that you!? haha, just kidding. but i do agree to some degree. When he scores really big goals, i think its appropriate. But sometimes, he goes a little too extreme. All in all though, I think it's awesome to see how much he LOVES to score. And in the playoffs last year, i thought it was awesome how the entire Caps team celebrated goals. They just get so excited.

What do you like most about this years team?
lightthelamp13 replied to DuckSoup13's topic in General
Personally, I have to say my favourite part about this team is their ability to turn it on. How many times this year have they been playing like junk, and then boom, it is just sheer domination. It's really special when players around the league talk about it, like Patrick Kane. Just like vs the Hawks in the Winter Classic...down 3-1 after 1, and then it wasn't even close after that. Or even vs SJ at the Joe. Conklin kept them alive for 10 minutes, and then it was lights out.
