  1. How long are we going to be an "end-of-the-line" team? Because I still see guys like Cleary and Samuelsson being brought in repeatedly. That philosophy is all well and good...when you don't have the talent to win now. We do have the talent to win now.

Or better yet why do we keep bringing them back when we have too many younger guys over ripening in the minors that never see the light of day here? That Cleary fiasco enraged me exactly because of this. Holland was finally showing that he was willing to part with guys that have spent too much time here and simply have nothing left in the tank, only for Cleary to come begging back hours later and Holland standing there with open arms.

We have better, younger, and most importantly CHEAPER guys ready to go, and if they aren't they shouldn't be in GR anyway. That's what we need to do. It's like everything this organization does is stuck in the past and afraid to move forward into the future for some reason.

  2. I guess you're right. Really speaks to the mental frailty of this team if that's true.

Is it mental frailty? Or maybe they just aren't that good.

Considering the veterans we have on this team and the demeanor they try to portray I have a hard time believing that they get out of sync mentally or lose focus. I really think the team just isn't that good. We've been on the decline ever since losing in '09, but we have yet to really rebuild. It caught up to us a while ago, Holland for what ever reason just doesn't want to pull the trigger though.

  3. My opinion is that Howard is a bad sport. I haven't seen many goalies throw fits or break their stick because they miss the puck. I think he's

too immature to play with the big boys.

When he missed 3 quick goals last year, he claimed to have lost his vision.....kids stuff

Lot's of goalies break sticks and throw tantrums. That doesn't mean anything.

  4. Its not the shots we need to stop as much as we need to stop leaving players wide open infront of the net. So many screens with no defender pushing the damn forward out of the front of the crease! You can't leave guys wide open in shooting areas and not expect them to score, especially with solid screens on the goalie. Look at the game before against the islanders, howard could see the puck and posted a shutout even with tavares and vanek peppering him with shots. Defensemen need to do their job in our end, we lost way to many battles, left to many guys open in shooting lanes, and couldn't guard the front of the net from screens and to smack away rebounds. like i said the second one was the only soft goal, all the others were legit and had more blame on the defensemen then the goaltenders. Not to mention Howard made some big saves, he robbed hartnell with a toe save that looked like an easy tap in.

    Two things.

One: Every goalie makes big saves in every game.

Two: The goalie's job is to make those saves when the defense leaves them out to dry.

Bottom line, Howard isn't playing well. He needs to be better. He knows this, we know this, everyone knows this. And the good thing is there's still plenty of time left for him to pick up his game. But we don't need to keep making these excuses for him that the fans have been making for years now.

  5. I actually don't hate Valenti's overall "act", and I'm a Michigan grad! I follow him on Twitter, and I've seen him harder on MSU that the vast majority of the State fans, and I've seen him praise Michigan where appropriate. It doesn't even bother me that media personnel have inherent biases, so long as they own up to that. Along those lines, I suppose if he makes it regularly clear that hockey isn't his thing, then so be it.

I just reject the premise that this isn't a big sports story right now. While the Tigers have been good, the only other Detroit championship in a "major sport" since 1990 was the '04 Pistons, and that team is just a disaster right now (and also not playing). What the Red Wings are doing right now is a huge HOCKEY story in both U.S. and Canadian national media outlets, so I think V & F are delusional if they think there isn't a critical mass of Detroiters that are consumed by it also.

Critical mass of Detroiters does not necessarily equal their listening audience though.

And lets be honest now. Valenti is not a troll or an idiot. The guy knows his stuff and he can be an ******* but he is pretty fair. He gives credit when credit is due and he blasts when it's due.

  6. Actually this year there's been a lot more Red Wings talk than the previous years. I think it has to do more with drama. Normally the Wing's seasons are punch button and easily make the playoffs. No drama. This year not so much and hence the elevated talk about the Red Wings.

  7. The entire defense has been playing worlds better than we've seen even just last series. They all deserve props, even Smith and Quincey. There was one play I think in the first behind Jimmy where Quincey flat out battled the guy with everything he had and I couldn't believe me eyes.
