  1. We need to be honest with ourselves. The Ducks had fire in the third period. The Wings didn't. The Ducks had tons of chances to end the game throughout the entire game. We got lucky they all kept missing the net. Outside of the middle part of the second period I thought the ducks were outplaying us most of the way. They seemed to want it and we didn't. I think it's interesting how we simultaneously we show the age of our veterans and the youth of our rookies.

    My takeaways of the game:

Offense was virtually nonexistent. I feel both our goals were more luck oriented than skillful play. We still seem to be only taking shots from the corners or weak shots from the point. Never driving the puck to the net and there is rarely anyone in the slot.

Defense is showing it's inexperience. Made some good plays and made quite a bit of mistakes. Not much we can do about this other than play through it.

Howard was Howard. Nothing more to say about that.

Special teams are awful. The 5 minute major should have been a game ender. Instead if gave them the spark. Gonna have to seriously address this in the off season.

Also Quincey is still a bum and shouldn't be on this team.

  2. As much as I dislike Howard, no he shouldn't. Howard has been exactly what he is this series. Nothing more, nothing less. Our problem is our complete lack of offense and our largely rookie (AND LOLQUINCEY) defense. Benching Howard won't change either of those.

Besides, I don't think Gustavsson is any better.

  3. You aren't him. You don't know how bad it is. Give him the benefit of the doubt. He is a professional after all. And also we've seen how Cleary skates with a broken leg. It's not helping the team in any way.

  4. Here's the thing though. There's got to be a reason Babcock doesn't give Nyquist and Tatar more ice time right? It's easy for us as fans to sit here and say the obvious play is give Tatar and Nyquist more time with the limited information and statistics we have

It comes down to this. People keep saying our prospects are so good and top notch. And yet we play worn out veterans over them all the time. Why? Is it because Babcock doesn't realize what he's doing or is it because though their numbers look good they don't look as good live or in practice?

  5. I'd say the chances are pretty low. He has said numerous times he wants to play in the KHL at the end of his career and he is getting up there in years. And the way things are looking, we probably aren't going to be a cup contender next year with the team we have and I don't think Holland is bold enough to do what needs to be done to make us cup contenders next year.

  6. You have to examine ice time, special teams and whatnot as well. Z, Pavel, Mule ect play on PP. Miller, Eaves, Toots, Emdog never get opportunistic goals- they are usually trying to prevent them. Hard to score when the top two line are getting 22 minutes a night and other guys get 6, 8 or 10. Just sayin'

    Here you go:

Ignore the title on the fourth graph. It should say Points per Games Played.

  7. I think the fears stem less from direct records and more from just the style of play fro teams like Boston and Philly. They try to rough you up. And while our short term record may be good against them, it will definitely have an effect towards the end of the year.
