Lidstrom for life reacted to Z and D for the C in Tatar a regular for 2010-2011?
Thanks, to whoever negged my posts. I hadn't otherwise realized that I was wrong on this one. Keep up the good work!

The question is, would we have an enforcer?

Have a feeling uk wing would be afraid of all of those that may have negged him to death and eva would break down every stat of the game down to amount of times Lidstromboli tosses out a sarcastic rant toward something that anyone says. Would be classic s***.

Lidstrom for life reacted to CMatt89 in RUMOR: Wings Offer 1-year Contract to Maltby
If Modano is not signed, Maltby will....at least it seems this way. And if Modano isn't signed (which seems to be the way its turning out), then Abby will be the third center. Meech will likely be dealt. That leaves Helm and Eaves as the 4th line. Miller and Draper are the rotating guys and Ritola (yet to be signed?) will be the odd man out. Malts will be a good practice guy, and comes handy when someone gets injured. Modano would provide more of a problem then Maltby would. 500k vs 1-1.5 mil for Modano. I'll take Malts.
True or not true, which I'm sure it is...I'll take Malts, probably his last year anyway.

Lol if you are at all serious. Yes the team would feel pressure to give him 3rd line minutes, because that is exactly what he deserves. In what perverse world is Maltby better than Modano.
Guys this isn't the end of the world, relax, everything will be alright. Looks to me like just another depth signing, one to make competition, just like with Eaves, Miller and Meech. I don't see anywhere where it says he will be on the roster next season.
And besides, its just an offer. Maybe its too low for his interests?

Lidstrom for life got a reaction from Hossa4Life in Sharks sign RFA Niklas Hjalmarsson
So if this works out for San Jose are they just going to let Devin Setoguchi go? I am not sure they will be better than they were last year. Hjalmarsson is an upgrade over a 40 year old Blake so their D will be better but their goaltending situation is much worse and now their offense isn't going to be as good as they also lost Malhotra and have not signed, nor will they have the cap space to sign, a decent replacement forward for either of those guys so I am really not that worried about San Jose. They only have 5 forwards signed that had at least 20 points last year (Draper had 22 points last year for goodness sake). Does anyone else agree? Or am I missing something?

I think you're harping on the guy a little too much. Did it eve occur to you that he didn't want to rush into this decision because he MIGHT not have that passion and he doesn't want the Red Wings to give him a contract if he's not going to honor it properly. He could just take the contract they offered the quit working half-way through the season. Modano seems to wanna make sure he wants to play hockey period - I don't think it's specifically geared toward the Red Wings.
If losing Ritola to have one of the best Top 9 group of forwards in the league has to happen, then I'd accept it. Maybe Ritola could pan out to be a solid 3rd liner for a few years, but I don't see it. He didn't do much to impress in the AHL during his 3 seasons, and I don't see him blowing up. I could be wrong, and if I am I'll eat crow. If we were losing someone like Tatar or Mursak then I'd be 100% against it, but to me Ritola just isn't that impressive.
If Modano can put up a 40-50 point season while playing on the 3rd line for around 1 million then it's worth it, IMO. And yes, I think 40 points is realistic. He out up 30 points in 59 games last season playing with the likes of Barch and Petersen.

4 years, $14 million. Another one bites the dust. Vince Vaughn's going to be the Hawks' No. 5 defenseman at this rate.

I think you might be. To call him solid is an overstatement, for sure. My gripes started initially with his giveaways, namely a costly one in 2007. The more I paid attention to him, the more I noticed his lack of.. everything. Fast, true, but that doesn't earn you a roster spot when it's your only upside.

Isn't Mike Modano the highest scoring American born player EVER? I think he has even more points than Brett Hull.
My point is, Brett Hull came to us when he was 37 and played here until he was 39. He NEVER had the wheels Modano HAS. He was pretty one dimensional (until he came here, and he was still sub-par defensively.) How bad did that work out? Listen guys, like I said earlier, he is not here to be our savior, so that right there is lifting a lot of pressure off of him. Even last year everyone in Dallas looked to Modano to win games for them, he couldn't do that from the 4th line leftwing position! He will have a more important role here sure, but he has a hell of a lot better top 6 ahead of him than he did in Dallas, plus the prospective line-mates of Cleary and Hudler is gonna give him tons of assists and energy as well. He still has a great shot, it may be too much to expect from him, but given enough time on the PP and if he and those guys click, he may end up with 20-25 goals and 30-40 assists. Heck, Brett Hull scored 25 goals and had 43 assists in his last year here, and that was while he was 39 years old. Guarantee with all the line juggling Babcock does, Modano will find himself playing with Dats or Zetts a few times this season too. This is a win win situation for all involved (well except Dallas, when they eat crow watching Modo raise the Cup.)
I seem to remember Larionov wasn't too shabby at 41 years old in 2002 either, especially in the playoffs. And who was that guy, what was his name? Oh yeah, Chelios, he was also 40 in 2002, and played very well for a few more years at least. Just cause the guy is 40, doesn't mean he cannot play, when Yzerman was 40, he played in 61 games, scored 14 goals and had 20 assists, all with a bum knee, a lot of times playing 3rd line center behind Dats and Lang, would you guys take those stats from Modano for $1.5M? SIGN HIM UP!

I think the implication was that he was asking whether or not adding the '0' would make it different than just plain 9.

    Hudler and Filppula did.
If Holland is forced to keep Abby down for cap reasons Babcock isn't going to make a big deal about it.

Like I said earlier, if we have to give up young talent for Modano then I say no thanks. I'm tired of out young guys going to other teams and becoming stars. We really need to keep these young guys otherwise we will be drafting 1st and 2nd overall very very soon! I don't like us gambling our future with guys like Modano!

Don't worry about the lines right now. Eaves, Miller, Abdelkader, Draper and Ritola will be battling for spots at camp this year. Someone is going to be waived/traded no matter what happens.
Abdelkader has only played 2 seasons in GR so he still has AHL eligibility left as well (and certainly wouldn't be hurt by spending more time developing his offensive game given that he clearly isn't ready to consistently score at the NHL level yet).

Millers shooting % is higher... fights count for nothing, as they don't win games the PK is almost a wash, Id prefer it to be boiled down to PK goals against per minute. More blocked shots does count for something though. Hits... well TOI differences could make up the difference but they still both have a lot.
