I think the author is on to something. I was in pure disbelief when DRW fans on message forums started crying when Sharks landed Brent Burns and acted like it was all Holland's fault. DRW fans were pissed because they think Wild would easily take Hudler + Kindl for Burns and a 2nd... then rant on that Holland didn't even try. That entire thing just really amazed me how ignorant some DRW fans (arm chair GMs) really are. This time of year is always the same, they expect Holland to make a block buster signing/trades at all costs, no matter how bad it hurts the future, just for the sake of making block buster signings/trades.
Then the Ericsson re-signing really took the cake. Lol. People thought Ericsson, despite probably being worth $3.5+ in the open market, should take no more than $1 million from Holland. When Holland gave him a slightly over-paid contract, which will likely be considered a bargain in year or so, Red Wings fans went ape s*** like he wiped his ass with the American flag or something, while completely ignoring that his cap hit doesn't hurt the team what-so-ever.
I have to agree with the author, he is right that DRWs are the most unrealistic and unappreciative fans in the game.

Supply and demand. Not a lot of better options this offseason with Ericsson's size, shot and upside. All the decent defensemen got grossly overpaid with long and horrible contracts. If Holland is going to overpay, he's going to overpay only slightly with the projection that the player will become an absolute bargain in the near future (see Kronwall).
Worked out fine for both Datsyuk and Kronwall. Holland thinks Ericsson will play to the potential, you gotta give him the benefit of the doubt since he (and his supporting cast) have the best hockey brain trust in the world at their disposal. But yeah, lets believe a few random arm chair LGWs posters who probably don't even know the rules of a proper faceoff for their hockey analysis of a mid 20s defenseman. Lol!
Holland has a pretty damn good track record. He's a professional in his field that doesn't need a random message hockey forum to rant his hockey beliefs in xBox or PSP NHL11 slang, he's too busy building NHL championship teams the past decade.
I don't know what the average LGWs forum poster does for a living, perhaps hang drywall (for example), I doubt we'll see Jim Nill complaining like a little school girl to contractors as to the proper way to mud, sand and paint drywall... he's too busy making millions of dollars by helping the Detroit Red Wings be the most successful hockey team the past 14+ years straight....

Agree with this completely. I live near Vancouver and am tired of all their conspiracy theories over the past few years as to why they have a tough time in the playoffs. Last year it was someone who used to be in LA kings management who is now NHL war room that made decisions against the Canucks, and this year there was one saying that the NHL wanted Chicago to advance so they used the refs to influence the games. Such a good conspiracy that Chicago almost missed the playoffs and they didn't suspend Raffi Torres when they could have. The above is the most annoying thing about their fan base, but the whining that their players and management do all the time is worse. Whether it's the complaining about Ron McClean's piece on Burrows (which by the was illustrates the cheap shot artist and diver he is), or penalties in the playoffs dating back to Brian Burke's famous "Sedin is not swedish for punch me in the head." Also John Garret is the single most biased colour commentator in the league.
These are the reasons I hate the Canucks. Most of it probably has to do with the fact that I live in an area dominated by Canuck fans, but they do get on my nerves.

Zetterberg knows better. If you put your stick into a guy's midsection with the stick parallel to the ice you are going to get called for it 9 times out of 10. It was soft but softer has been called.

Check the IP address. It's from Michigan. And again, were you watching the same game I was? MacDonald stood on his head!! I know some Red Wings fans tend to be delusional, but come on... be honest. And again, stop saying Detroit had nothing to play for. I'm sure they want that 2nd seed. No, it's not the same as playing for your playoff lives... but it's a bad excuse.
And I could argue that Sharp is Chicago's best player. He's not, but I could make that argument.

Campbell is the bad contract there.
With the raise, Chicago is paying around $275k more for Toews, Kane, Hossa, Keith, and Seabrook than we are for Pav, Hank, Mule, Nick, and Rafi. Both have two long-term deals. With the exception of Hossa, those guys are young and still improving.
The cap is expected to go up, perhaps by a significant amount, and the $4M bonus overage they're paying this year goes away. Even if they can't get rid of Campbell, they are not really bad off. $10M + whatever cap raise to sign 10-12 players, mostly bottom line players who should cost under $1M. If they could somehow dump Campbell, they'd actually be in pretty good shape.

Big, young, RH, shutdown defenseman. Plays in all situations. Hits. Blocks shots. Has performed well in the playoffs. Should still be improving.
I wouldn't call it a bargain, but it's not overpayment either.
