  1. My only brushes with NHLers come from work.

I work downtown at Bestbuy (don't make fun) and Leafs come in pretty regularly. First guy I met since working there was Ron Wilson. He bought the nicest Mac laptop we have from myself and we just conducted business regularly. When he was skimming through his wallet I asked "What do you think of the team this year?" (this was my first indication I gave as to knowing who he was) He responded, "Best team Toronto has had since Sundin has been gone-what kind of discount can I get?" He seriously didn't take a breath between sentences. I offered him the 'student' discount which is to say $100 off in lieu of buying a service plan for $450. He said "Do I have to do anything?" and I let him know that I'd take care of it. He then asked for my card and he gave me his along with some nice gold seat tickets for the second home game of the season. The best NHL souvenir I now own is Ron Wilson's business card.

Since then he referred JM Liles and Lupul to the store and they got in touch with me. They were furnishing there new condos with home theatre stuff. Both were nice enough guys and Lupul brought tickets to the store. He also left tickets on his counter for the installers.

After I helped them out I texted Ron about the Wings game in TO and let him know they were my favourite team and he made some comment about them "being a good, but easy choice to cheer for". He had someone drop off the same Gold seat tickets to the store in an envelope with my name on it.

Funniest thing about all this is how badly I wanted Wilson to be fired before I started getting hook-ups lol.

  2. I've been annoyed by the Wings lack of response when teams plays tough or dirty against them, but it still hasn't reached Canucks level. Until Kronwall bites someone's finger, Lidstrom gets poked with a stick and falls over like he's shot, and Datsyuk takes several punches to the face without swinging back, the Wings are not as gutless as the Nucks.

Sedin takes repeated jabs to the face, and all he does is get angry at the ref about it, as Marchand laughs at him.

    From comments on youtube.

    POSTGAME INTERVIEW

Interviewer: Was anything said between you two before you gave him those shots?

    Marchand: Nope

Interviewer: Then why did you hit him?

    Marchand: Felt like it

  3. Isn't that all they do in Toronto anyway? The first time I ever went to Toronto there was a picture of Eric Lindros playing in a Leafs jersey on the front of the Toronto Sun...except he had never and was not playing for them at that point. Toronto is Eklund of hockey cities.

    But it came true!

  4. I knew people like you would show up. I agree, regardless of your stance on homosexuality, it's annoying when people use it as a derogatory term. That's beside the point though; I'm sure it upsets some players too, and isn't that the point of all the trash talk on the ice? I'm sure all the players that call opposing players *** aren't homophobes, but know that it'll get under the skin of players like yourselves who seem to be overly sensitive.

I get where you are going. If some player is dumb enough to use *** as an insult and really mean it I guess a peer could receive it and really take it to heart. ie. successful trash talk.

  5. I'm one of the opinion that absolutely nothing should be off-limits so long as it isn't reflected in players' off ice antics. People will always cross the line and there's no way to effectively prevent it. I don't mind it so long as it's an unwritten rule, as it then provides the perfect opportunity for agitators to add another element to the game, and enforcers to police it, but when the league gets involved it's gone too far.

Soon enough you won't be able to use *** as an insult. People still don't understand that athletes, hockey players especially, have different faces, including one that only shows itself on the ice.

Probably good because calling someone *** who isn't makes you sound like a grade-schooler.

  6. Since moving to Toronto I'm obviously being brainwashed by the media but I like to think I'm still knowledgeable and know how to watch a hockey game despite what Joe Bowen is yelling at me.

Kessel is markedly improved this season. He is the fastest (maybe best) back checker in their top 6. He is their best shooter in all situations including the SO. He is obviously their points leader as well and TBH that guy is paid to score... so no one is mad that he is producing there.

He isn't the best player in the league but amongst wingers to this point he may be it.
