2 year deal apparently...If that means a butt plug like Abdelkader sits in the press box - that'll make me happy.

TheDetroitRedWings got a reaction from Rick D in Wings Monthly Schedule Desktop Backgrounds
Now that monkey wrench has "retired" from making any, does anyone know of an alternative site? I just scoured google, and so far cannot find anything for this month/year. I know at one point they were even made here on this site. But seemingly not anymore. Any help or guidance here would be much appreciated. It's was so nice and convenient always having the monthly schedule right there in my background. Not to mention looked awesome too.

TheDetroitRedWings reacted to solarion in Yzerman vs Fedorov. Which one was better?
I don't think that's really much of a factor, I mean they were drafted only 6 years apart. Yzerman's best season, production wise, was '88/'89 with 65g 90a 155 pts 80 games and Fed's best production was '93/'94 with 56g 64a 120pts with 82 games played. Five years, 9 goals and a whopping 36 assists separate their best seasons...and Yzerman played 2 fewer games to get there.
We really don't have to speculate about how different defenses were because obviously, these guys were teammates. Yzerman played only 58 games in '93/'94 and racked up 24g 58a 82pts. Fedorov averaged 1.46ppg in his best season and Yzerman averaged 1.41ppg the same year.
While clearly Fedorov didn't play to his potential much of the time, and could have achieved more, Yzerman is the guy you choose first in a re-draft...he simply worked harder, which more than made up for any skill difference between these two awesome hockey players.
Edit: one other thing to note. Yzerman's 2nd best regular season production was during the '92/'93 season...when he racked up 58g 79a 137pts in 84 games 1.63ppg. Sergei played only 73 games that year and produced 34g 53a 87pts = 1.19ppg.

TheDetroitRedWings reacted to ChristopherReevesLegs in Holland and Blashill expected to return
Glad I'm not the first to mention this.
Should Holland have started the rebuild sooner instead of holding on to the playoff streak? Sure, I won't disagree with anyone who wants to argue that point. However, all of you who see Hollands name and automatically scream about the sky falling, cannot claim these last 2 seasons of rebuilding haven't been wildly successful on his part.
Tatar = 1st, 2nd, 3rd (fantastic haul for a middle 6 forward) Mrazek = 3rd, 3rd (great haul for a backup goalie that could be in Europe next year) Sheahan = 3rd (sucks we couldn't get more, but his value was at an all time low and we needed the cap for AA) Ott = 6th (fair) Vanek = 3rd (fair) Smith = 2nd, 3rd (highway robbery with Smith in the minors screwing up NYR's books) Jurco = 3rd (fantastic haul for an AHL/NHL tweener) Datsyuk = 2nd (between a rock n a hard place, traded out Chychrun for Cholo and got the cap space, fair) Kindl = 6th (thrilled just to get anything) I'm not at all mad about a single trade he's done since the rebuild started. And the Mrazek, Tatar, and Smith trades have me particularly happy. For a man who's never had to rebuild before he's doing grade A quality work so far. If you need every roster player to be traded in order to be happy, I think you're being a bit unrealistic with your expectations.
Where I do draw issue, and where I think most of this boards frustrations truly lie, is with Blashill coming back. The whole "fresh voice" thing hasn't worked at all. Young players who had bright futures under Babs almost immediately regressed, and he's getting subpar performances from our vets as well (though aging plays a role with some).
If we should damn anyone right now it's Blash, and if you wanna put Holland on blast, blast him for keeping Blash, otherwise Holland has been fantastic the last 2 seasons.

People say Holland can't trade, but he deserves a ton of credit for this one. He managed to sell basically a useless player for a 2nd and a 3rd.
Handing out big contracts to McDonagh's buddies last year is really gonna bite NYR in the rear lol. And now they're listening to offers on McDonagh too lol

TheDetroitRedWings reacted to kickazz in Tatar traded to Golden Knights for 2018 1st, 2019 2nd & 2021 3rd
No. The move was the right one. Nyquist only has a year left after this. Tatar had a few years left. Nyquist will be sold off next year as a rental. Moving Tatar's contract is tougher than moving Nyquist's. If Tatar sucked the remainder of his contract, we would have been stuck with him. He got moved at the perfect time. Even if Nyquist sucks and gets worse he'll be gone in a year.
Not to mention Nyquist is cheaper than Tatar and you always want to unload a more expensive contract.
Also Tatar and Nyquist suck for the Red Wings; they just don't work in our system. Mantha is younger and already better. So is Larkin. So is AA. Nuff said.

Plus you'd have to think that the 2021 3rd may be just like a low 2nd as well. I give Kenny credit for today. Couldn't trade Green because of the injury, not his fault, refused to get fleeced for disney.com, good job! Shed cap, got 3 picks in return.
two things I want to point out here, three actually:
    1. It's nice to NOT see Detroit at the top of the salary chart!

    2. Its very nice to see 6 picks in the 1st 3 rounds. Plus considering where us and Ottawa are going to finish, it's almost like having FOUR 1st round picks!
    3. With this trade, we now have $18.1M cap space for July, add t that Franzen's $3.9M LTIR and that is $22M. I would say that is enough to re-sign all out RFA's PLUS make a run at JT if he's interested. As long as if Green re-signs, its for much less than $6M.

If I were AA, I'd be firing that garbage agent ASAP...smh
Not only does he have no leverage. But that KHL team already took their offer off the table. And he's losing 10k each day he remains unsigned. Oh and if he makes the dumb decision to play in Switzerland, he'll make significantly less money.

Report - Jimmy Howard will be the starting goalie next season, they would like him to start 50-55 games if healthy.
He was easily the better of the two last season, I think he's earned his spot. It's make it or break it time for Mrazek, prove me wrong and be the goalie we need you to be Petr. They also stated that Las Vegas "Was not at all interested" in Mrazek which may reflect on his overall value.

Red Wings Got A Special Goalie In Petruzzelli
Forget Mrazek and Howard. This kid could be the future of this team in net, and our best pick of the 2017 draft.
He was ranked as the #1 NA goalie midway through last season, ending the season at #2. Red Line Report had him ranked as the 33rd best player in the entire draft. He also won the Dave Peterson award for best USA goalie this past season.
At development camp he allowed 0 goals during the lone scrimmage and stopped every single shootout attempt as well.
He will play on a very good Quinnipiac University team this year.
Looking like we got our very own Ben Bishop

Anyone know if we have any interest in bringing back Thomas Vanek? I really haven't heard much about him since free agency began. Even tho he was basically just a powerplay specialist for us, I'd like to have him back at the right price. It's pretty clear that he liked and fit in well with our system. He was putting the puck in the net with much more regularity here, than he did for the Wild or the Panthers.
If his asking price isn't too crazy, I'd really like to see him back in the Winged Wheel on a 1-2 year deal.

It's acceptable, if Kronner or any other defenseman isn't going to play for a big chunk of the season. I like his skillset and what I read about his locker room presence.
I also don't have a problem with the NTC, it's what you pay for a relatively cheap contract for a 33y old defenseman.

Regardless of any tension between him and the coaching staff, this move remains mind boggling...But anything that makes the Blackhawks worse (which this most certainly does) is a win in my book!
