unsaddleddonald reacted to Detroit # 1 Fan in Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?
With Z, Weiss and Pav out, if we expect to make the playoffs we need help up front as well as the back end. If Kenny sits on his hands this year, with cap space and assets aplenty, we could miss the dance. You can't go into games with your top 3 centers Andersson, Helm, Sheahan. Yes the injuries have been insane, react to those and make a positive move. Youth is great, but we have a ton of prospects and we all know which ones are the untouchables.

unsaddleddonald reacted to kipwinger in Marty St. Louis wants out because The Captain hurt his feelings
So it was the same process as all the other teams pretty much? (except the Russians, lord knows how they pick their Team).
They lost in 2010 to the US team in the prelims.

It was a committee of people. Yzerman had the final say, but it wasn't him sitting home in his man cave or Buffalo Wild Wings drafting a fantasy team. Babcock and everyone else had input too.

Geez, Mule must have really gotten to them with that "can't play hockey". Neil's replacement being brought in?

unsaddleddonald got a reaction from matthewdanna in Ryan Miller, Steve Ott traded to St. Louis Blues
Ok, I guess you guys need to set me straight because I am seeing a large overpayment from the Blues....
Miller (age 33) is an upgrade over Halak (age 28) but I think their value is quite close. Stewart is a top 6 forward and has more value than Ott who is a bottom 6 forward. Prospect and two draft picks (one being a 1st rounder) What am I missing here?

unsaddleddonald reacted in Zetterberg out with herniated disc
All speculation on your part as well. Nothing factual to back it up. Datsyuk would not be playing with the Red Wings right now. He's still be out with the injury. It was clear to anyone who saw him play that he's not even close to being recovered. He would still be sitting out if the season was ongoing, as well he should be. Same with Zetterberg. They were playing so they could go to the Olympics, not to help the Red Wings.

Worse to miss their final chance at Olympic Gold? Worse than what, missing the rest of the Wings season? Screw the Olympics...
Thank GOD for no NHL in 2018!!!!

No say it ain't so....
Back is toast...he needs to take the entire tourney off in order to heal up enough to come play for who puts his food on the table...

unsaddleddonald reacted to kipwinger in Babcock's comments on playing time
I agree with your point, however I'm not particularly interested in "blaming" anyone. It's not therapeutic for me to point fingers. The roster could have been managed better, and the coaching could be better, but immaterial right now. We've got a team that could (and should) go on a run down the stretch. There's no reason for this team to miss the playoffs. Add a puck mover to the second pair (moving Smith to the third and Kindl off the team for good) and a scoring winger with some size and there's no reason we shouldn't compete for the Cup.
But to do so requires that tough decisions be made. Moving the right combination of vets, prospects, young guys, and picks. How deftly Holland does that will say a lot more about his talent than all the FA singings in the world. Likewise, how well Babs can coach a young team that doesn't coach itself (like he's had since he joined the organization) will say a lot about his talent as well.

unsaddleddonald got a reaction from F.Michael in Babcock's comments on playing time
Well, the blame is passed from one to the other in different circumstances.
It is on Babcock when he can pick and choose who he wants to play and he picks incorrectly.
It is on Holland when everyone is healthy, and we have to send down guys who make the team better because he kept signing a bunch of guys we didn't need.

unsaddleddonald reacted to DickieDunn in Babcock's comments on playing time
Is that why Eaves blew his coverage on one of the goals? And Abdelkader is average defensively. Also, when you have the puck as much as the kid line did, you're being a lot more effective in keeping the other team off the board than you are chasing them around your end playing defense.
I'm not one of the people who thinks that anyone who doesn't score 20 goals is a waste of a roster space, but this isn't the Grind Line out there. They shouldn't be taking that many shifts at even strength, especially not at the expense of the line that scored 2 of your goals and generated 11 of your 30 shots on goal.
Tie goes to the vet, and Cleary and Bert are thick guys. They've gotten the cheese and are going hard, blah blah blah.
I've always defended Babcock, but come on coach, come up with some new cliches.

Sorta like irrationally loving a player(s) and possibly putting that before his team?

So is it making him earn his spot or spreading the scoring around? I can't keep track. All just the same Babcock media lip service. Playing Bert and Cleary over Tatar was stupid from day one and that's been painfully apparent to everyone except Babcock for quite some time.

Cleary ~ 51 games ~ 4 goals ~ 4 assists ~ 8 points ~ minus 9 rating
Sheahan ~ 12 games ~ 3 goals ~ 5 assists ~ 8 points ~ plus 3 rating (no penalties in 12 games)
Babcock keeps saying the players dictate who plays, who gets the ice time. If that is true, then I guess the players know who is going down to GR….or do they? Would sending Cleary down not free up enough cap space to keep Sheahan up? If so, then the decision is very simple.

unsaddleddonald reacted to shoe in Turning point!?!?!
Win at least 3 games in a row by more than a goal in 2 of them and I'll call it a turning point.
We have seen them loose we have seen them win but when was the last time they WON? You know up by a goal in the 2nd not letting the other team come back in the 3rd no OT no shootout just a plain old big win. Would really like to see that happen with Montreal tonight.
-
unsaddleddonald got a reaction from Hockeymom1960 in Turning point!?!?!
My point is, if we can play like that against Chicago, we have no business losing to Montreal or Florida.
This team needs to stop playing to the level of it's competition and start to take care of business.
