I have to say most jerseys are kind of nice.... simple and to incorporate the flag... I like the jerseys with the country's shileds on them like Russia and Germany

interesting, so you are saying it has nothing to do with economics? Russia was able to produce a competitive hockey league, that can actually afford to bring some good players over. Obviously, they can't pay out the size of contracts that some major teams in North America can at this time. You don't think that if KHL would put higher bids on some players they wouldn't come over? You are very naive then... It comes down to money. KHL is a relatively young league as it matures and grows, it will come down to the type of revenues Hockey generates and then the league will start attracting better players... Perfect example is Soccer, after fall of Soviet Union Russian launched its new Russian premier league and now brings in plenty of stars from outside to play in its league a perfect example is when a Russian club filled with international players just like any other pro team beat Manchester United in UEFA Super Cup... Zenit St. Petersburg 2–1 Manchester United taking the CUP and the championship Manchester is one of the best pro soccer clubs in the world and they lost to a Russian club because Russian club had an international roster... So its just a matter of time don't be delusional, it comes down to money...

right you would turn an extra MILLION dollars down... Hudler is a young guy he didn't have the big contracts that some of the older players had... maybe 250K, but millions lol? Seriously you do realize that this is business and its his JOB... that's how he gets paid... What happens if you get hurt and your career is over? You would need to have a nice financial cushion... Fans are like children sometimes... Company (red wings) invests into employee (red wing player), so that the company can benefit. Employee and company's wants and needs have to meet. Hudler could get more money and Red Wings couldn't afford to pay more, that is the bottom line... so their wants and needs couldn't meet...

how did he go about his business? He got a ton of money more, why would he get paid less for what he does to stay in Detroit? that's just silly no matter how much you love your job if you can have a bigger position else where for a lot more money, you would leave too...

awesome news for the sport of hockey!!! Congratulations to Shanny and all hockey fans:)

Howard's best game of the season very nice...
-
I guess it means something might start going the right way for him... he did score tonight...
-
yep, plus the tax rates are much lower than Canada and United States, so $1m in Russia could be worth more than $1.5M in United States since you are not giving up half of your salary to the gov't, wich is why Hudler bailed...
-
technically by your argument Russia would be #1 population of 141,800,000 with hockey a close 2nd in popularity to soccer...
-
I would say based on combination of popularity, contribution to sport and quality of athletes... 1. Canada 2. USA and Russia tied (soccer is very popular in Russia and Hockey is the 4th most popular organized sport in United States) 3. Sweden, Finland, Czech Republic and Slovakia 4. Norway and Switzerland

as long as wings are able to stay above .500 when the stars come back Wings will explode and get much much better. In the meantime Howard is getting better (knock on wood), which is promising for years to come as well as in case Ozzie starts stinking up the joint again...

you really think the wings doctors would authorize him to play if he wasn't healthy enough? besides all Franzen said is that he is hoping and will go date by date, which means he is being realistic about it. It all depends on how he feels and what the doctors saying... I think people are reading into it too much... I think he is saying this is so that the Swedish management keeps him in mind, but if he won't be able to be healthy and play a few games in NHL prior to Olympics there is no point...
-
well that's the point. There such hate in this blog for anyone who is not willing to play in minors. As far as I am concerned KHL or Swedish leagues are just as good and I would argue KHL is way better than minors for player development because the league is more competitive...
-
riiight and Fetisov was one soft player as well... right right
-
so you are saying that they would have done better if they would have started out in the minors instead of developing in Europe???
-
they both will be staying for a while with the wings... Franzen jersey is definitely more original, but Hank is more future hall of fame... so do you want originality or a safer choice... that's what it comes down to
-
you are in danger of sounding like Don Cherry... that's the point they were older cause they decided to stay and develop in Europe, which is exactly what Filatov is doing....
-
so 2 of the Wings best forwards, which are both Selke trophy winners or finalists, Datsyuk and Hank didn't play in minors were drafted as nobodies and developed in European leagues... considering how things worked out for those 2 and red wings organization and us as fans, I would say they did the right thing by staying in Europe until there was a spot for them on the team's roster...
-
ahh interesting so Hank didn't play a day in the minors and went straight to NHl from Swedish leagues scoring 44 points and 22 goals his first season... KHL is a much more competitive league compared to Swedish leagues... Filatov is on of the top picks who needs to play at a higher level to grow... to claim that somehow minors is better than KHL is ridiculous... When Hank was drafted he was a nobody, but he developed in Sweden versus coming over to play in Minors... Russia picked up some from North America and North America picked up some stuff from Russia... Datsyuk also didn't play in minors and developed in KHL and when was drafted was a nobody... so basically 3 of the wings best forwards didn't play in minors and developed in European leagues? Hank, Datsyuk and Franzen didn't play in the minors...
-
KHL is the 2nd best league in the world, certainly a lot better than minor leagues in North America. You make it sound like in North America teams play dump and chase and in Russia the play puck possession only... The only difference at this point is the size of the rink and not the actual game. I bet it will do much more for Filatov's development to play in one of the top Russian clubs versus some minor team in North America...
-
I don't see how this is homer's fault... Datsyuk needs a shooter, so homer can do his thing in front of the net. Unfortunately, bert has been struggling...
-
just 2 awful games in a row... refs didn't help much though...
-
if this was a soccer game in europe or latin america, the refs would have to be protected with a police escort after a game like this one...
-
totally agree.... hows starting a fight over high sticking make any sense? Toughness isn't going to prevent a goon doing goonish things... league needs to strike down on goons... toughness has nothing to do with being a goon...
