This game makes me sad. Detroit is playing so much better than last game but have nothing to show for it.

Good story. Too bad it isn't even remotely true. Zetterberg didn't "put this team on his back and will them into the playoffs last year. He didn't play a single game between February 8th and our first round playoff series on April 24th.
Nyquist put the team on his back a year ago, scoring 13 goals and 8 assists in March and April. Not Zetterberg, who only played 45 games last year, none of which were in the second half of the season when we were fighting to make the playoffs.

I disagree with this. It's not the D's fault that the forwards constantly turn over the puck. It's not the D's fault that the forwards can't forcheck. It's not the D's fault that the forwards can't make, or take a pass to save their life. It's not the D's fault that the team can't win a faceoff this month.
The D is weak, no doubt about it, but it's far from the only problem.

They were 2nd in the league for half the season. Their strong possession numbers were driven by faceoff wins. A large offensive strategy was to just throw it on goal, and get an offensive zone faceoff and the carry possession.

The Leafs went 4-10-1 last March during their regular season collapse. The Wings are currently 4-7-1 in March. They are Leafing their way right out of the playoffs.

Detroit has become just awful at passing. It's been a problem most of the season.
