It's great to get these two points, but, damn, I must've been watching a different hockey game, because the Wings that I watched tonight looked very much like a team that does not have its s*** together.

Right, because gaining confidence is completely overrated in snapping a losing streak right before heading into the post season.

Wait... how many goals were allowed the last two games?!?!? Oh, and were either of those teams playoff teams?
Not to be the downer, but this doesn't mean anything but a bit more confidence. Hold off until they play Nashville before you make a judgement.

I know we've won two games but man were they good ones. This is a thread of Pre-Playoff relief now that we have most of our guys back and we are playing like the team we know and love. Repaired, dialed in and finally tearing it up.. our Boys are back in town!!

Hey, Milbury only stated to the hockey world what many of us feel, so good for him.

I've never seen the problem with Milbury; he's an old school guy that calls it like he sees it. He's genuine, doesn't try to be anything that he's not, and is not politcally correct and overly professional and polished like too many of the other guys. I like his intolerence for bulls***.
And more often than not, he's right.

I agree with Milbury (shudders) in saying Crosby is fair game if he's going to keep getting into scrums and putting himself out there. Not because I hate the guy, but because it's not fair to have two sets of rules for the league superstar and everyone else. That's why die hard fans of sports end up hating superstars.
That being said, Milbury is a ****** and a creep.

We can't get first, we can only get fifth, sixth, or fourth, and fourth would require a bunch of winning and help from Nashville.
Even if we get fourth, it gets us one more home game which might not mean as much as their stellar defense...
I am going to say it, the Wings would do better to fall to sixth and face one of the LA, DAL, PHX, SJ bunch...
Dallas and LA look like the most likely ones to finish third. We can take Dallas easy, and LA would be tough.
The bonus would be no matter what we can say if we fell to sixth, either Chicago or Nashville would be out in the first round.
I cannot come up with a better argument than that... yet I have to say it everytime I am at a bar and come across someone rooting for the Wings. Sometimes you have to root for them to lose so they can win.
I just hope their are no more injuries, and the team starts looking better like they did against Carolina at times... but beyond that I hope they lose every last game to get to sixth. I figure they need to be at or below .500 to get sixth and playing the last game against Chicago gives us an excellent shot at taking a dive.

Taking away that the Pens had won 9 games in a row before he came back, the last 2 games he has looked very sharp and made the Pens much better. 4 points in 2 games back after missing all that time is a feat in itself. I honestly can't say that any current Wing could have that kind of output after missing that amount of time, even Datsyuk (the goal last night was heartening, but he can't do it by himself).
I kinda envy the Pens fans right now. They are in a position that seriously makes them SC contenders when their season was in jeopardy a few months ago. And we are down because we might not get home ice advantage in the play-offs that we expect to be in year after year.

I don't think I could list five, but I will say I'd have liked the Pittsburgh/Carolina series in 2009 to go more than 4 games. Even though the Wings took the first two games of the series, Pittsburgh had a longer break because of the sweep, and it probably gave them more gas in the tank to do what we all know they ended up doing (I won't reiterate that story).

Raw stats don't mean anything. Just looking at Franzen's numbers makes you think "oh yeah ok he seems to do good he deserves a huge contracnt"
But if you actually watch the games you can clearly see he is pretty much a no show. He doesn't do ANYTHING most of the time. Just skates around minding his own business. And all of those goals he scores, are usually done at pointless times. IE Last night when we were already down 2 (or 3 I can't remember) goals to the Kings. Or better yet when we're up 2 or 3 goals.
Playoff preformer or not, I want you to play your heart out EVERY TIME you step out onto the ice. Not just in the post season. Because once you start trending in a direction you typically keep following it. And right now Franzen is NOT trending in a positive direction in any facet of the game.

Is anyone else sick of reading Babcock's post game comments? " I thought we were good for 2 min in the second, we didn't start on time, they played good, we only had one line playing" etc. I wish that he would call this team out or at least those who are simply collecting cheques and not giving a crap. Forget the PP. This team does not compete on a nightly basis and that is becoming a huge problem. Have you ever watched a Wings game and had a pretty good idea what the outcome will be 5 min in? Mike Babcock is a great coach but he needs to inspire this team. Say what you want about Ken Hitchcock but the Blues are playing inspired hockey right now and that is a lot to do with coaching. Getting the boys all back healthy will be a big help but this team has been lacking drive all season. So I think its the coaches job to turn this around now or face a very early playoff exit.
