I'm from a small town, but the only person who I know came from here was Darren McCarty.

Is it just me, or does Conklin look like the happiest person in the world? I can't think of too many pictures where he's not smiling.

I wonder if they will actually pay attention. The fans are reacting badly in the first week. It's a three year deal, if fans don't like it then, I'm hoping they'll either pull the plug at the end or even earlier. I would truly hope a organization like the Wings would know to listen to its fans.

Honestly, I don't think many people would have been nearly upset if it had been Belle tire, or GM, or any other Detroit based business that brings pride. I think what bugs people is they went with a shady pyramid scheme company. Plus, the article posted earlier made a great point. Promoting a pyramid scheme into a severely economically depressed area, it's like throwing a wolf in with some sheep.

Honestly, if Doan goes anywhere, he'd go back to Winnipeg.

Whoa, when did we get Chris Pronger.... I mean Matt Cooke... I mean (enter name of cheap shot artist here) on our team... OHH, he's talking about Bertuzzi. What a dick. And while the Blues are a BETTER team than last year... they aren't better than us.
-
I am so proud of this team for showing so much heart to come back. I was sure it was over in game 5, but they came up huge. A few slight changes and we'll be even better. We've seen that Howard can play for real, and I'm excited to see him grow.
-
I've been very surprised by Jimmy's play. He has stepped it up, and given us a huge chance to win each game. If our offense had been able to produce in games 1 and 2, we could have won those games. The best part is he's still young, and will only improve from here.
-
The thing is, these predictions are looking at these teams playing the best they can. That's why the Caps got swept, cause they didn't play their best. That's why we're on the verge of a sweep, because we haven't played our best. Wings playing their best could beat the Sharks playing their best... we just haven't seen it yet.

Geez, how is it that Grypho always post the best response? I want to hate him for being a Sharks fan... I think in all honesty, Detroit and San Jose are completely even. We've had a bit of bad luck, and the tank is one of the worst arenas in the league for away teams to play at. If we can win games 3 and 4, I bet that game 5 determines the winner of this series. We need to play better in the offensive zone though, as we keep getting one chance, and then they clear it. We have not gotten enough sustained pressure, and that is causing us trouble.

Was there a goal missed yesterday? (game 2)
Shady Ultima replied to Rick Zombos Ghost's topic in General
Uh, so what could they do anyways? That was OBVIOUSLY in. Unfortunately, even if the refs admit there WAS a missed goal, what can they do? Cancel that game and have a re-make game? -
It's pretty obvious why the Sharks are so good. They've been learning from us, specifically because McLellan was our offensive assistant coach. I think we need new assistant coaching staff. McCrimmon is garbage, and it's obvious. Before the start of next season, I'd love to see some changes behind the bench. Keep Babs, and change the rest.

Pretty sure EVERYONE has played 6 games. Not sure how that has ANYTHING to do with anything.
-
I think honestly, sit Abdelkader and Miller/Hudler. Give Abdelkader a message, and bring Mo to take his spot, and Draper to take over on the 4th line.
-
We go home, we win games 3 and 4, and this series is even. Game 5 is the real game. I believe the winner of game 5 wins the series. I believe in the Wings! We can still win this series!

I know that Pittsburgh also lost games one and two in 2009. I think the combination of the sweep and then being the ROAD team is what killed us. Pittsburgh swept Carolina, had to go to Detroit, lost one and two. But, for both Chicago and for Detroit, we were the home team in game one and two. There may be something to Grypho's theory if you are the away team. Because going into an arena that is pounding after a rest should get the adrenaline going, especially in your own building. If we can win game 2, we have a chance at this series. The Joe has been rocking lately, so we'll get a lot more energy going. Honestly, if we shoot the puck more and test Niemi, we win. The Sharks are heavily frontloaded, but their defense and goaltending are suspect. Niemi was pulled twice against the Kings, and we're a much better offensive team than they are.
-
Howard would have gotten the call for instigating the whole thing. After that, it was just a after-whistle scrum. We played very poorly, and although the refs gift-wrapped the tying goal, we need to be better in game two.
-
While there were some really weak calls throughout, they out shot us, and for a big part of the game, outplayed us in every way. Honestly, Howard's penalty should have given them a power play. Pavelski was acting like a jerk, but he did not break a rule by sending the ice spray into Jimmy's face. The Bertuzzi 'Boarding' call was weak, and the high sticking should have only been 2 minutes. That was a classic wrestling move, cut yourself open to show the blood.

I'm hoping this is a joke. I'm glad we're playing the Sharks. Everyone points out that the Sharks beat us last year. Sure, that's very true. But everyone makes it sound like neither team has changed at all. Last year, we were a lower seeded team, who struggled to beat Phoenix, and we were out of gas just getting through round one. To go up against the Sharks, and their offense, we were overwhelmed. This year, we're well rested, and the weak links (Lebda and Williams especially) have been replaced with better players. The Sharks also allowed Nabby to walk, in favour of the Nitty/Niemi combo. Neither one of those goalies are game-changers, and both make Bryzgalov's play from round 1 look like Roy in his prime.
-
I wonder if he even WATCHED Det/SJ last year. Some of the worst officiating I've ever seen, but you never heard Holland whining to the press about it.
-
I honestly do NOT want to face Nashville. Anaheim and SJ don't have the defense or goaltending to stop Detroit. They may score 3 a night, but Bryz is a better goalie than both Neimi and whoever the hell Anaheim plays. Rinne is good, and with Weber in front, they could give us some trouble getting some goals.

Power Rankings and Playoff Predictions from USA Today
Shady Ultima replied to Vladifan's topic in General
Interesting that most people pick the Winner of the West to win the cup. -
We really have to appreciate the depth of this team. Sweeping a series without Z, and winning game 4 without Mule, that says a LOT about how deep this team is, and how hungry they are to win. It's been a tough year for Modano, and I don't know how much he'll be in the lineup throughout. Everyone on the team seems to be playing well, even down to players who are rarely credited, like Miller.
-
When it comes to the playoffs, I don't follow the statistics. Statistics would have said we'd beat the Ducks in 03. We've lost a lot of times where we were the statistically better team. I think this Wings team has something to prove. After last year, and how people were saying we're done, need to rebuild, this team is HUNGRY to prove that they were wrong. Bring on the Sharks. They'll be so cocky in game one, because of last year. I bet we'll shell shock them and take the series in 5, maybe 6 games.
-
Well, he is a good leader, and a great player. But the team around him isn't up there. Given time, and a good GM, they could be a real contender. I would hardly pin Winnipeg/Phoenix's playoff troubles on one player. The team has to work, not just one player.
