Filppula to Tampa 5 yr $5 million
Doc Holliday replied to Manny>Ozzie(by a long shot)'s topic in General
Yeah, I'm sure Filppula's 57% shooting percentage is going to hold up for the entire season. He's had a great start, but let's wait a bit till we consider Filppula the next big superstar (even ignoring the fact the odds of him playing like that here were slim to none). -
I haven't been on here enough to see Weiss bashing. I think he has been good. Franzen has shown flashes of being good, but so far has not been good. I made a comment last night about Franzen's first shift. He skated hard, took the play to the opponent and looked good. Then he played terribly from then on. Didn't make any sense.
-
I was just pointing out it wasn't "All Weiss" on that play.
-
For the record, Weiss got that OT winner because Franzen drove the net first. Srsly. I'm not exaggerating.

Cory Emmerton and Petr Mrazek sent to Grand Rapids

Really, that last sequence with Alfredsson passing the puck offside then losing it for an empty netter didn't make you yell at your TV? -
Yeah, trade a guy who will kill us in cap penalties if he retires on another team. The only option for him is a compliance buyout if you don't want to wait for him to retire.
-
Exactly why I am not happy with this deal. Yeah, this deal made me so annoyed I got my old account and hopped on back.

Signed Cleary re-signs with Detroit, 1 year, $1.75m deal
Doc Holliday replied to wingedominance13's topic in General
I think we have enough players with a playoff history. It is time to inject players who can make their own history. -
How can you not agree with how awesome Gary Oldman is?
-
What would I give up for Malkin? "Can't play in key situations" Uh huh. How many points did Datsyuk have in a 7 game series against Chicago?
-
I really don't see Horton making it to free agency. Does Boston not have the space to sign him in the offseason?
-
Franzen kills kittens, guys. It's quite obvious and I don't understand how some of you can't see it.
-
The team had guys like Quincey and Lashoff and was still able to boast a top 5 in goals against average over the season. I think Datsyuk should win handily.
-
My issue is it was a one year deal with cap space we weren't using anyway. I completely understand the possibility that Datsyuk didn't even want him here and might have told Holland so, but it still grinds my gears a bit considering he did play well for the Canes (even if the team didn't improve due to their acquisitions).

This discussion is stupid. We have Franzen and the Hawks have Hossa and you can't make hypothetical arguments when we don't know how good Hossa would make the Wings and how Franzen would play if we let him go. Holland has made more egregious errors in my opinion than the Hossa/Franzen choice. Personally, not even getting into contact with Semin and perpetuating the idea that veterans are safe here (loyalty is one thing, but complete amnesty is another) is bigger than the choice between a guy who can score 40 and a guy who can score 30-35. Besides, it has been 3+ years since Hossa has been off the team. We can't dwell on it forever, right?
-
Franzen hasn't had a bad season. The past month he has been great in my opinion.
-
Yeah, I'm 13 at heart. Wanna fight abaht it?
-
That came out wrong.
-
Detroit has to win out from here on out and wait for other teams to lose. We can't rely on anyone to do our dirty work for us, anymore. One loss from this point and we are done.

Holland: "We don't need depth...Need a top guy"
Doc Holliday replied to unsaddleddonald's topic in General
That doesn't entirely bother me since I don't think we are a piece away from contending. Would prefer a long term trade over the offseason. -
Dreger: Wings 'very interested' in Bouwmeester *merged*
Doc Holliday replied to b.shanafan14's topic in General
So according to capgeek, we would have about 17.9 to work with. Assuming Cleary, Miller, and White are let go, and Jay-Bo is traded for his 6.8 million (assuming we don't lose any roster players in the deal), you could still have cap space remaining to sign everyone. Nyquist and Andersson won't command much, so the only ones you have to worry about are Fil, Howard and Kindl, really. Negotiate well (and even let Fil go if he asks too much) and it puts you with some cap space remaining. Sure this keeps you from making a big splash in free agency, but it all depends on what you are looking for. One in the hand is better than two in the bush. -

Do we really want to give Filppula a raise with the way he has been playing? And can someone give me a link that says it is for sure going to go down to 64 million? -

Explaining away? The only one you were even correct about him playing poorly was the 2 on 1, which can happen. The other two were odd man rushes with poor forward coverage. And it was one game. Should we have a "Bouwmeester watch" thread so we can nitpick everything he does right and wrong? For the record, I don't like or dislike the guy, but I do think he would help the team if we acquired him for a decent package. We have the cap space and he is on the block. So yes, he is affordable.
