Dreger: Wings 'very interested' in Bouwmeester *merged*
Doc Holliday replied to b.shanafan14's topic in General
I wouldn't bother. I made similar observations on HF and they were ignored. Simply nitpicking to lower the value of a defenseman they simply don't like. Here is a better question: how many available and affordable defensemen are better than Bouwmeester. I don't really care that Karlsson and Weber are better than him. We aren't getting those kind of defensemen without drafting them or picking them up in free agency. -
This is what I was thinking. With all these trades and the expectation that has come with it, they are ripe for a first round upset.
-
No way they fire him in the middle of the season unless something happened, I think. Sucks, though.
-
Even with this streak they aren't even in a playoff spot. It is still going to take a lot of this (plus help from other teams faltering with their games in hand) for them to be able to make a run at the playoffs. So far, so good, though.
-
In all honesty, what has he done that is so great?
-
Kasaian gets a free call for him and throws it away. What a moron, haha.
-
And you replace him with who?
-
How can anyone be unhappy with the way Toots has played so far? He's been spectacular, in my opinion. Doing everything we expected of him and a little more.
-
I promised them I was a changed man.
-
I missed this. Missed this too.

He can't stop a shot he can't see. No reason for Kronwall to park his ass in front of his own goaltender like that.
-
I find either side stupid if they use the "they should be grateful" card. The players need owners to run the league and the owners need the players to play in the league. Both sides need the fan support to make the league viable. Both sides are stupid, and I think Jimmy was way out of line with his comments.

Should Kronwall have to answer the bell for his hits?

It would be nice if your link wasn't messed up. -
Holland losing his moxie? Is Detroit slipping as UFA destination?
Doc Holliday replied to RedWingsRox's topic in General
Hard pressed to do what? You just seem to be making a bunch of random statements in this thread that are slightly related to the topic. Holland is still working to help lower the impact of not getting the free agents he was looking for this offseason. While I am not a fan of Bouwmeester, I think it wouldn't hurt to help our defensive talent and ship off a bit of offensive talent in the process. If Holland is able to get him for decent value, I think that will be a good sign. -
I think having a second tier might be a slap in the face for some players. I think Feds will eventually deserve to have his number retired with the other greats. But I think there needs to be a little bit more of a grace period just on how the fans reacted to his leaving.

Babcock would rather deal with our current roster than add a potential 40 goal scorer and someone to develop mad chemistry with Datsyuk?
-
I need an explanation out of this. What was he thinking?
-
I think the fact we have a monster on our team negates any problems our team has.

Carolina's forward core is going to be money. At least on the top line. That said, what.

You make it sound like it is as easy as pressing a button. Holland went after Suter when he had the space to replace him. Suter went for Minny. -

My point is it doesn't matter what GM you have. Getting upset at the situation and saying that "Ken Holland is a poor General Manager" are two completely different things. I never thought Holland was a master GM that everyone thought, and I don't think he is as bad as some people are implying. The market is thin (has been for some years) and when you don't draft high you have a harder time each year to bring in competitive talent without having to resort to trades and risk cap space on free agents. I don't even think our perspectives differ all that much. -
Who is your favorite player from a team besides the Wings?
Doc Holliday replied to CaliforniaWingsFan's topic in General
I am not really a fan of any player, but I sure do enjoy Stamkos and what he does. -

I wish we were better than getting on people who defend/criticize Holland as one single entity then act like we have made a solid point somewhere along the way. At least Harold followed this up with substance. My personal opinion: Falling back down to earth is inevitable. Holland is a human being, as good as he may or may not be. He isn't going to be able to draft steals in the late rounds anymore because every player from every league is being scouted. Because we have had so many years with low draft picks, we were bound to lose talent along the way. The more the years have been going on, the harder it has been to draft solid NHL-level talent and either use them for the team or use them for trades, which is why the Red Wings are getting worse. There may be issues with how Holland is pursuing players, but at the same time you have to think of the possibility that this Red Wings juggernaut has to come back down to earth at some point, great manager or not. Thanks to some poor luck in free agency (which is what you are banking on if you rely on that to get talent, rightly or wrongly), Detroit now needs to figure out a way to find talent. If they can't, they can't. It happens. -
You are so used to the fact that Holland, as good as he is, cannot get every free agent we want for every season? Well color me surprised.
-
That won't happen unless he asks for it. Even if he has that terrible contract, Lecav is their captain and sending him away will instill a bad message in his organization.
