  1. Konopka would be my first choice for a 4th line signing.give him 550 K.If he signs somewhere else,make a pitch for Jared Boll by offering Miller and a draft pick for him.The Asham Konopka fight was a battle last year.

    BTW,i just read on TFP that Detroit is reportedly interested in Mike Modano AND Slava Kozlov.Slava Kozlov?We need to address the 4th liner,then we can make a pitch for either Modano or Kozlov with what we have left over,which wont be much.

    NO! NO NO NO!

    Please No. we do not need any more over the hill, declining in skill players..

  2. Not sure why you think I take bandwagon fans as an insult. I don't care. I'm not one, so why would I? I don't even live in Chicago, so I don't have to deal with them. In fact, I'm on your side with that argument. I hate bandwagon fans as much as you.

    About what? I'd love to hear this.

    There's a great chance that this is all we lose this offseason, which is WAY less than (legit) fans thought just a few weeks ago.

    Really, what are we in denial about? I'm interested.

    Seems like WIngs fan are grasping for straws now that the offseason isn't going to be nearly as bad for the Hawks as you thought.

    Maybe bandwagon Wings fans do. Don't pretend that you're not one of the s***cago fans chanting "Detroit Sucks".

    and what straws are we grasping at? We've won the cup took us a 42 year drought but look what we did with our team after we did.

    Come talk to me in 20 years and we will see who's grasping at straws.

  3. Note when his post was, and when the article with the possible line combinations are. One month apart. Not really all that fair to rip him to shreds when the article/lines were written after the fact, and well after his post, and when there was absolutely no hint of whether Datsyuk and Zetterberg would definitely play together or apart.

    Regardless, line combinations are going to be constantly changing due to needs, hot/cold streaks, injuries, and so forth for every team. I'd definitely love to see Datsyuk and Zetterberg together consistently but they'll probably be split up at some point due to the nature of roster fluctuations of injuries and so forth.

    I see it as completely fair to rip him to shreds after saying that his lines with Z and Pav ignore real life and it would never happen, one month later it does. But hey everyone here is the best coach /GM/ talent scout / genius of hockey plays / line combination expert of all time forever and ever so it's cool. ( this includes myself )

    ``````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
    But hey I'm one of the insane crazy one's who thinks Huds is at bare minimum equal to Filp, ya know because he has 2 less NHL reg season points then Filp in 35 less games, and 14 less playoff points then filp with 24 less games . Huds is so underrated on this board.
    Dats and Z both got 70 points last season, granted a bad season for both yet what point total does babs expect from huds? 70. he's top 6. Welcome back Huds, dont mind the haters.
  4. Why draft this kid? HMM, he's big ( by red wings standers ) and plays center... well if he works out to be good defensively he could be the 3 or 4th line center, if he turns out to be more offensively talented then expected, throw him on a wing to be the big body net presence. Homer and Bert are not getting younger or better with time. so why not Draft a big forward in hope they can replace Homer or Bert when they retire. That is just my logic, I'm by far not an elite hockey drafter.
  5. I see the point you're making, ( if obtaining another Yzerman = Losing seasons you dont want one )
    Here is my thought. I'm greedy, I want to win AND have another Yzerman. We are going to need one when Lids is gone.
    When you lose (arguably) the best D-Man of all time or at least ever to wear a wings jersey , it leaves a big gap.
    2 ways to approach filling this gap would be to spend his 6.2 mil ( If that is what he retires making ) on 2, 3 mill dollar players
    or to load up that 6 mill on one "Yzerman" like franchise player.
    I'd rather see 1 franchise guy as apposed to 2 more filps.
    just my 2 cents.
    Edit: This post revolves around trade and Free Agents, not draft picks.
  6. Hmmmm, lets see I joined in August 2003 and have over 3200 posts, you just joined last March and have 56 posts, now I am not calling you a troll just because you just joined, but my stats alone say that I am not a troll here, there may be a lot of folks who don't agree with my opinions, which I think is great, what kind of forum would this be if everyone held hands and sang koom-by-ya together? We love difference of opinions here, that is what makes this place so great! And if you read my post, I said I would like to see more gritty North American players, that is not saying I am against European players, Fedorov is my all time favorite player, but just because some of us don't like the players like Hudler, we are haters. I do not call the folks who prefer hudler style players North American haters, do I?
    Also, there is a difference between saying "You hate European's" and "You're a Euro-Hater?" :blink: Uh.... is your real name John Kerry?
    I dont care if I joined yesterday and you joined before the birth of Christ, I was simply stating that no difference exists between "North American" grit and "Euro" grit, and that by implying we need more "North American" grit you were basically showing the same "racial tendencies" you had just called someone else out on.
    John Kerry, funny. No but if you had enough intelligence to comprehend what i was trying to reflect to you, you may have understood the difference of said two statements.
    Typical to combat ignorance with sarcasm, an out dated political reference at that.
    Please have your own opinion, I agree that we should have constructive debate. Thats why the internet is great, because we can have open discussion. But your response to the OP
    "in my opinion" was basically an exaggeration over what he/she posted.
    I also like how you use the phrase "we are haters" ..... 2 sentences later question then slander me over explaining that a difference exists between the two phrases.
    Typical troll behavior, not that you are one.
    Edit: for spelling
  7. So, just because there are some of us on here that would like to see some more big a gritty North American players in the league, rather than small (for the most part) and afraid of body contact (again, for the most part) players, we are hate Europeans? I think your title alone says that you have racial tendencies by calling them Euro's. I prefer white women in my life, does that mean I am a African women hater or a Asian women hater? So call me a hater because I prefer Dylan McIlrath over kirill kabanov....
    Your first line states that you'd like North American players in itself reflecting a racial tendency on your part. Also most people know a difference exists between the statements "You hate Europeans" and " You're a euro hater" when put into the context that it was. If you cannot distinguish a statement based on its setting perhaps an internet forum is not the right place for you.
    Then again maybe I should not troll a troll.
    On Topic OP, that was an interesting read, thanks for sharing.
  8. Some of the bickering over this topic is flat out dumb. "ZOMG he has potential" ..."nutuh he's 28 you can never have potential after the age of 3"...... "ZOMG yes you can" ...."nutuh no you cant" .
    People, we signed a guy with basic offensive talent for DIRT cheap, whats the problem. If he does well AWESOME, if not what are we losing? I for one hope he makes the squad and puts up 40 points. It may or may not happen, but if it does why complain?
  9. I think this is an amazing signing. If Ilari plays hard in camp and actually makes the big boy squad, it could push Valtteri to have the "break out year" some of us have been expecting. Having 6 brothers myself i know the great impact sibling rivalry can have. Plus he (Ilari) won't have the the attitude Leino had, so all around I like this signing. Great depth signing, and thats what the wings need at this time... depth.
  10. What interest/concerns me most is whether Datsyuk and Zetterberg can pass off what they learned from Yzerman, Hull, et al to the next wave. That is what is most important. Sure D and Z had talent before they came here, but so did guys like Patrick Stefan and Alexandre Daigle. Unfortunately for the latter they did not learn the game from Hall of Famers like the late-round also rans we have here in Detroit.
    Datsyuk can barely speak English, though he's probably better than he lets on, but unless we gets some young Russians he will be limited in his ability to teach the kids. Zetterberg can speak well, and he certainly has the personal dedication to excellence, but I wonder sometimes if he has what it takes to lead like Yzerman and Lidstrom. Perhaps I'm holding him to too high a standard at this point, but sometimes he seems bored with life, especially during interviews, and I wonder how he is in the locker room.
    We all know how Hull really took Datsyuk under his wing, and there was a real nurturing of the younger by the older. Watching them on the bench I really got the impression that Hull cared about Pavel's development, and that Pavel really looked up to and respected Brett. That's the kind of leadership we'll need here to keep this party going.
    I'm not trying to sound rude, but think about it. Dats has a good enough grasp of the language at this point to relay hockey information, and if he cant say it he could physically teach it. I feel that Dats already has shown that he shares wisdom with the youth, IMHO Huds is a prime example. Huds was really starting to hold the puck like datsyuk before he left.
    Another Key factor here is the desire to learn. If the young guns want to be taught they will listen AND watch. A lot can be learned through watching a specific player or play during pratice and live games.
  11. The salary cap thing in general bothers me. I would prefer a luxury tax system. If our owner Mike Illitch want's to spend more, let him. Why force teams to play down to a level?
    On another note, I like the idea of a franchise tag. Designating one person that does not count against the cap.
    As for winning the stanley cup, give the winner a compensatory pick at the end of the draft.
    I like this Idea, Said player should also have to wear the C.
  12. I don't think too many people are angry that he didn't re-sign. In fact, I'm quite happy that he didn't. We would have given up depth for a choker.
    What a lot more people are angry about is that he came to a winning roster for a cup, took 7.4 million, top line minutes, and didn't play like he deserved either.
  13. Hey, here's a thought - maybe a couple of the guys (Martin and Verbeek, perhaps) told Stevie, "look, you get a GM job, I want to come work for you." Maybe Stevie's just making good on a couple of promises.
    If the Wings are willing to let them talk to Steve (or any other team, for that matter), and they want to go, then there's nothing underhanded, secretive, sneaky, poachy or raid-like about it. Just like the Lightning approaching the Wings to get permission to talk to Stevie last month that set all this in motion. It's really no different - just a mutual decision between the heads of two corporations.
    Geez, if people are making this big a deal about front office people, I hate to see what will happen when Stevie comes to the Wings for the first time with a trade proposal. Yeesh. :scared:
    In a trade you get something in return, in a raid your butt just hurts.
    I dont think Steve is a ****** or tryin to be sneaky, but I also dont think it is ok to leave an organization then try to get peeps you like from it.
    If you want so many of our front office guys maybe you shoulda waited a few years?!?!?!
  14. In recent news, Yzerman, newly appointed GM of Tampa has asked the Detroit Red Wings if he could approach Mike Ilitch to move him to the Lighting. Gary Bettman approved this transaction without consulting with the Red Wings management. In other new's Gary Bettman and the NHL have become the new proud owners of the Detroit Red Wings, They plan to sell the billion dollar franchise in order to support a new endorsement for Sidney Crosby.
  15. Doom and Gloom... People thought when Yzerman left the wings were done, well we were not. I love lids, I'd take him over almost any player in the NHL. But I think he is done. What happens next you might ask? Simple... the Wings continue forward, acquire new talent and bring up kids that have been developing in the minors.
    We will never replace Lids, but other teams have won the cup without him.... so can we.
  16. If my calculations are correct, Jimmy Howard has let in 33 goals in just 10 playoff games... that is unacceptable. I have never been a fan of Howard; yes he helped the Wings get into the post-season but I never found him to be consistant with his saves and I knew it would be a mistake to not play ozzy to get him ready for playoffs and start him in the playoffs. 33 goals in 10 games is terrible and Jimmy REALLY sent the Wings golfing with his performance in game 3... While the Wings can come back it is unlikely, and I think Babs is probably sitting right now thinking that he made a HUGE mistake by not playing Ozzy in the playoffs.
    At this point, the Wings are down 3-0 and have nothing to lose; I say start Ozzy in game 4. If the Wings are to win this series, they need a major shake-up like a goalie change anyways, so I say get Ozzy in there and aim for a comeback.
    I agree 100% . We will not win this series with Howard in net, but if you put Ozzy in and by some miracle he puts up that playoff wall of his the Wings stand a slim chance at making a come back.
