When Bert is playing I think it really changes the team. People really under rate his creativity and playmaking. I'm not sure what Sammy will bring if he is healthy this year. Doesn't sound like he is doing that well from what I've been reading.

Not nearly enough in my opinion. I think if we throw in Pav, Jimmy, a prime Larionov and Steve Yzerman's legacy it's a doable trade. Make it happen, Kenny!

Oh yeah, that guy. He said that.

I guess it depends on how you define soft. If softness is rated on how often you fight or pu your glove in someone's face after the whistle then yeah, Filppula is soft. If it's determined by when the puck is in play, then Filpulla isn't soft at all. He battles hard, and he wins puck battles way more than he losses them. I guess it depends on what you care about when it comes to hockey. Good players or just how "manly" hockey makes you feel.
And who cares whether it's self defense or not? If Rocky Balboa instigated a fight with me and I knocked him out, would I still be soft because that was in self defense? If Filpulla was soft he wouldn't ever need to defend himself. And yeah, the announce said Filpulla got hit by Engelland..before he knew Filppula was going to put him on his ass.
If all you care about is fights, go watch the ducks or flyers bro.
The 32nd highest scoring forward in the league? 12th highest scoring center? Incredible skater, Selke level play? Captain material? Okay, I'll take it.
What does someone have to do to make you a fan of them?

It's pretty comical how many people think unproven players and rookies can walk into Hudler's spot and put 25+25 up.

The only other dman of any merit who wasn't overrpaid this off season was Eric Brewer. I think Holland got the most bang for his buck as far as defensive spending (White, Commy, Big Rig). I say this and I HATE Ercissons contract but in respect to the entire situation we are better defensivily than we were last year, younger and bigger. Plus we don't know how much of a negative effect McCrimmon had on our defense and with a new D coach a lot of people will probably be quite pleased. Like I said last page though, I'd love for a big mean son of a *****, if that happens, helm/Murzak/Abby will be running people through the freakin boards.

I am quite happy with our Free Agent activities so far. Obviously White and Commodore don't replace Rafalski, but both come at a very good price with short term contracts. So not much risk there. The FA Pool didnt really offer much this year, so there is no sense at all in signing a and badly overpaying an average guy to a 6 or 7 year contract and thereby making us unable to act in next years free agency, where we might find someone worth to spend big $ on and who would a much better fit than the top FAs this year.

We have Bobby Orr. His name is Nick Lidstrom
Nicky, Kron and Stewie need some real pairings.
Kindl is a solid bottom pairing and could be a 2nd pairing in an emergency.
Merzzy is a bottom pairing but we could run him a full season and be happy.
As far as Erhoff is concerned, I never wanted him.
As far as the bad blood goes with Wiz, every man hs his price and his snub sounded to me like he was offered a joke of a contract. Conjecture about his family being let go with a pink slip stapled to his last check is one thing but hockey players first need a job and second want to win at their present job. He knew he had a good chance to win here but also knew that hes a pro hockey player that deserves a good paycheck.
Nobody even talks about trading with other teams just FAs. We have a deep list of forwards that are definitely worth something to another team. Not just the starters but our GR guys as well. Culling the herd and grabbing up a signed player or two isnt that bad of an idea.
Holland reminds me of my dad, stuck in a certain decade and stuck in his routine. Thats when you know you need to retire and let the kids play without you.
White is an affordable guy but he is doing nothing for our team to replace Raffy. Ericcson is definitely not replacing Raffy even if he gets his spot on the rotation. We are grabbing up a lot of bottom or third pairing players, no one that is a starter or someone that will fill anyones shoes as Nick retires and other guys move up to newer spots.
So Ill say it again Holland is a carp. Hes bottom feeding all the leftover Dmen. Its a waste of money and makes me question how well our D is going to be.
We woulda won the cup last year if we had healthy Dmen. The injuries to our Forwards could have ben dealt with but we had too many GA due to shoddy D which was a result of injuries and sub par replacements.
Im expecting similar results this season, I hope I wrong.

I'm sure all you Negative Nancys out there think this was Holland's first phone call all off-season.
So, I'll leave you to your endless bitching.
I am satisfied with this signing in both term and price and I think some of you may be surprised how this signing turns out.

You don't know anything about hockey, do you? Leafs fans, and especially Sharks fans LOVED having White. He's a very, very solid d-man and for this price, it's an absolute steal. Terrific signing, one of the best of the FA period considering how short the term is and how cheap the amount is.

Jiri Hudler's last two playoffs 9 goals and 26 points. Jason Williams last two playoffs: 0 goals. So yeah, totally the same. His last season here he had 23 goals so you really don't think that'll make a difference? As for him being overpaid guys who scored around 23 goals last year were Vinny Lecavalier, Brad Richards (who both make almost 8mil) RJ Umberger who makes $3.7mil Radim Vrbada who makes $3mil. So overpaid? Not really.
Williams is gone, Meech probably will be and at best Maltby is on a two-way contract, which I don't think he'll take. Kris Draper will be gone after this year.
So do you actually think things through or research them before you post them or no?

Lol if you are at all serious. Yes the team would feel pressure to give him 3rd line minutes, because that is exactly what he deserves. In what perverse world is Maltby better than Modano.
Guys this isn't the end of the world, relax, everything will be alright. Looks to me like just another depth signing, one to make competition, just like with Eaves, Miller and Meech. I don't see anywhere where it says he will be on the roster next season.
And besides, its just an offer. Maybe its too low for his interests?
