Found this. Interesting argument to support going forward with our first pick.

If we were lacking picks this year, yes trade down. But we are stocked with picks. Take the player. Please Holland if this opportunity presents itself, take the damn player!

Bob McKenzie said on his podcast Zadina might slip out of the top 5. But mainly because C and D prospects have really stepped it up and because of team needs in the top 5.

You can tell it’s the off-season when we have 3-4 pages straight of Hicketts chat

Any concerns about what was said in the video about Bouchards final season in the OHL being inflated because his team basically set him up to succeed, more ice time, favorable situations, etc..?
BTW, can someone give me another "like"? I don't like sitting at 666.

Of course fans base opinions on simplistic and usually biased evaluations of limited data. That's why fans shouldn't make roster decisions or constantly act like they'd make better roster decisions than people who have won championships in roster-decision-making.
I don't think I (or anyone here) could come up with a truly accurate list of criteria used to make a proper evaluation, but generally speaking I would say real game-situation physical abilities, puck skills, decision making, off-ice habits, and history at lower levels. The sum of all of that (plus whatever I missed) for Hicketts would be, in the opinion of management, somewhat below Jensen at least, and certainly below any of the actual vets. (Ouellet is debateable. It's plausible enough that the team would rather have Hicketts play in GR than sit in the pressbox in Detroit, even if they thought he was better. But let's not argue that this proves your point. It's conjecture, Ouellet isn't a vet, and you're not arguing for Hicketts to be a healthy scratch anyway.)
You say "just the easy way out" as if it makes any sense. It doesn't, nor does it actually fit the data. Too many exceptions. Just a couple years ago we waived Frk and Pulk to give waiver-exempt AA a spot. Larkin walked on at 19. Like half the roster earned their full-time spots while still exempt. 2013 with a rookie Smith and a fairly new Kindl, Brian Lashoff still managed to push veteran Ian White out of the lineup, and later that year we brought Dekeyser straight out of college. In fairly short order we dumped Kindl and sent Lashoff back in favor of Ouellet and Marchenko, with the latter soon being jettisoned to make room for Jensen. I'd bet there will be some waiver-exempt kid on the roster next season. Maybe more than one. There is no evidence that the team is at all unwilling to move fringe players when they think they have a better option.
The only logical conclusion is that the team just doesn't agree with your assessment of Hicketts relative to our other defensemen.

Datsyukian-Deke got a reaction from Dabura in Official 2018 NHL Amateur Entry Draft Discussion Thread
Yea I’d prolly do that trade as well. I’m extremely high on Zadina personally. I see him as a 40 goal scorer one day. Of course that’s my opinion but every post on here is opinion lol. And AA being traded wouldn’t be the worst thing. I don’t like his work ethic. He tends to float at times and rely on his speed.

I don’t see it costing a ton at all. Montreal wants their C and doesn’t want to waste the 3rd on him. I think giving them the 6th and our 30th for 3rd would be more than adequate. They get their man and an extra pick and we get a potential super star.

Never been so amped for a draft. And the closer we get, the less confident I am on who are pick will be. Really hope that we trade a 2nd rounder and our 30th and move up somewhere in the first round. Our success with 2nd rounders hasn’t been great and with all the ammo we have there isn’t much stopping us from moving up and grabbing someone we love.

I agree Zadina doesn’t necessarily fill a positional need but he does fill a team need of a pure goal scoring sniper. I truly believe he will be a super star player. So I def don’t mind giving up #30 to get him.

I agree, it just seems like he's referencing Rasmussen like the jury is already out and he was an overrated pick when that clearly isn't the case, yet. I'm also not looking to take Tkachuk. The only forward I'd be okay with is Wahlstrom, otherwise give me one of those promising D prospects.

Good read on Tkachuk. Really hope we stay away. I like him, but not where we are drafting. We have bigger needs.

In order to have that flashy defenseman that can jump up in the play, you need a solid stay at home defenseman that will cover for him, which the wings don’t really have either. So either way drafting Bouchard or Boqvist we are getting something the wings desperately need. I lean Bouchard myself because Bouchard is the more defensive defenseman and boqvist is the better offensive player but I think bouchards offensive capabilities are stronger than boqvists defensive capabilities if that makes sense.

Been liking what I've heard about cholowski so far. That was a swing for the fences pick by Detroit. Either he is gonna be a major bust or a major steal. Hoping for the latter.

I'm ok with it. Our veteran defenseman after this season would be Ericsson and Dekeyser. Everyone ok with those two being the leading example of our young defensemen? 3 mill is not bad at all.

5 years ago I would have agreed with you. Now I'm expecting a 7 year 35 million dollar deal for Trevor Daley from Holland.
