kipwinger got a reaction from WizardOfOz30 in Wings unlikely to sign Osgood/Draper
I know right? This future Hall of Fame goalie totally blows. Him and his garbage 2.49 lifetime goals against average, 400 career regular season wins, .905 regular season save percentage, 2.09 playoff goals against, .916 playoff save percentage, 74 playoff wins, 15 playoff shutouts, and three Stanley Cup wins. What a buster! Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out Os-terrible...am I right...am I right?
If you don't want to see him re-signed I understand. Making dumb ass comments which suggest that he's a bad goalie, is...well...nevermind, perhaps the NBA is more your speed.
Note: I am way protective of Osgood considering so many people defy logic and want to talk s***. That being said, if you were only referencing his last two years when he wasn't really playing very well then I sincerely apologize for the overreaction. If, however, you were making disparaging remarks about a career that has been nothing less than stellar, you are dumb as hell.

I would just like to start by pointing out Lidstrom is over 40 too.......... (please! please! come back!)
I hate to see Drapes go. However, short of us trading away prospects to replace raffy, I don't see how he'll fit on the roster anymore.
Osgood.... umm... bye! Try not to let 3 goals in on your way out.
We need a backup that will accept a role as second, but will still give Jimmy a challenge to continue to improve.

kipwinger got a reaction from Uncle Danny in Filppula & The Selke
He had one point less than his career high and played in ten less games due to injury. Recovery time matters as well so factor that in. And he had 8 pts. in 11 playoff games. I think he's getting better. I don't think he's going to turn into some sort of an offensive superstar at any point. But I don't think 50 pts. is unrealistic for him. That plus his D skills for 3 million? I'd keep him around forever.
Everybody wants him to be a superstar...I don't get it.

all the negs in the world won't change the fact that both of these players not returning is GREAT news for the detroit red wings!
neg away, folks!

One of the better playoff performances I've seen in a long long time. Atta boy Timmy!

I've got a board i post on for pretty much every michigan sports team - wings, lions, pistons, tigers, uofm, etc. And I'm obviously not speaking for EVERYONE here...but...
This is BY FAR the MOST BITTER message board in all of Michigan sports. And it's not just responses to my posts. It's everywhere. 90% of the content I see posted here is b****ing and whining. I don't think I've ever - in three years - seen an optimistic thread here (that wasn't obvious, ala 'we love pav,' 'jimmy was great in that shutout'). If someone is ballsy enough to be optimistic, he gets completely ripped to shreds.
Isn't it ironic that the best team in the area, by far, has the most bitter fans? You're all just a bunch of hockey brats if you ask me. None of you have your own ideas. And there's nothing any of you enjoy more than shooting down others' ideas...or b****ing about the players...the coaches...the executives...
It's really pretty unreal. Bitter and pathetic people.

kipwinger reacted to Datsyerberger in Scoring isn't really the Issue
There's this Finnish guy, I hear he has great skating and really good defense for a 2nd line C. Puts up a solid PPG. All of that and I hear he can be had for $3m/yr.
Wish I could remember his name...
I'd say very badly timed penalties putting our equally bad PK on display is what cost us that series.

kipwinger reacted to Travis in James Wisniewski
I will eat my crow now. I guess the scenes of Seabrook, Avery, etc. led me to a misinformed stance against him. I am happy to admit I was wrong.
Now, someone get rid of WizWear.

This is like the movie Groundhog Day with Bill Murray. The differences are that I liked the movie and I like Bill Murray.

kipwinger reacted to Bannedforlife in James Wisniewski
Wisniewski committed 18 minor penalties in 75 games last year. If you break down the types of penalties he received it indicates that he does not have a tendancy to commit the same mistake over and over, which can be annoying to watch.
Holding the stick: 1
Interference: 2
Slashing: 2
Cross check: 3
Roughing: 3
Boarding: 1
Hooking: 4
High-sticking: 1
High-sticking (Double): 1
Wiz took 8 of those penalties in 32 games for New York (One was for roughing during the 1-6 loss to the Flyers in which 120 minutes were handed out) and 10 while playing 43 games for Montreal (Another one was for roughing in the 2nd period brawl of the 6-8 loss to Boston in which 182 penalty minutes were handed out)
Of those 18 penalties, only 5 occured during the last 10 minutes of the game (cross check, high-sticking, high-sticking, hooking, roughing), 1 came after the final horn (cross check) and none during overtime. Three times the opposing team received a matching minor, including the brawl in Boston. Only 4 times did the opposing team score on the ensuing power play (roughing, high-sticking, hooking, hooking) and none of those goals turned out to be the game winning or game tying goal. In fact, the goals that were scored turned out to be mostly inconsequential. One was the final goal in a 5-0 beatdown by the Predators, another was the fourth goal in that 6-1 blowout by the Flyers, another was the final goal in a 5-2 loss to the Penguins. The only one that really had any consequence to it was the go-ahead goal that put the Leafs up 4-3. The game ended 5-4 Leafs.
By comparison, Rafalski committed 11 minor penalties last year in 63 games. While Rafalski was great about not taking penalties towards the end of the game, he did take one tripping penalty in OT against Dallas. Loui Eriksson ended up scoring shortly after the penalty expired. The puck also ended up in the back of the net on 2 other Rafalski penalties (hooking and cross check). Also, the majority of the penalties he did take were of the infuriating variety (4 hooking, 3 tripping, 1 puck over the glass). It is worth noting that the only guy Rafalski roughed up this year was Kopecky (That could be seen as good or bad)
PS I was bored and couldnt sleep last night, somehow I got stuck on this.

You could also say that our crappy powerplay in game 7 is why we ultimately failed.

kipwinger reacted to CenterIce in Scoring isn't really the Issue
Detroit was 2nd in goals per game and 23rd in goals against per game, this season. Yes, the team defense is what needs to improve.
By the way. Those numbers change to 4th and 5th; respectively, in the playoffs.

kipwinger reacted to krsmith17 in Changes in the offseason
I don't think any stat should be the complete focus on a players skill.... Anyone that know hockey, can watch a game and instantly see the kind of skilled player on the ice without looking at goals, assists, points, +/-, etc.... that all looks nice on paper but the truth is, it doesn't matter one bit, especially when it comes to playing for the Wings. You know when Babcock decides who is playing he goes with the guy working the hardest and playing well every time, not who's leading the team in points or +/-... anyway that's my two cents... see how many people have to comment on this one....
Anyway I'm not going to respond to any of the bulls*** anymore, to be quite honest I can't stand a lot of the people on this that think they know everything about everything to do with hockey, I guess that's why I have always just read articles and forums, and not got involved in the discussions... a lot of bulls*** back and forth... a lot of extremely opinionated people that think their logic is the only logic, if they don't agree with you, you're automatically wrong...

The ones he does take tend to come at very frustrating times.

As was pointed out, starting with most recent season, these are his PIMS totals.

GP 329 PIM 302 (with 103 of those coming in 68 games)
James Wisniewski doesn't take that many penalties. 16 FMs, or 80PIMs are from fighting as well.

kipwinger got a reaction from T.Low in Mike Modano
I completely agree. I thought we was pretty good in those playoff games as well, which is why I couldn't understand why he didn't play in more once Franzen was pretty obviously rendered ineffective. The only thing that I can think of (considering nothing ever came out) was that Babcock thought he just couldn't do it, or just couldn't keep doing it. And certainly the comments couldn't have helped reassure him. Again, I don't know if that's what really happened, but for some reason they didn't feel confident playing him in those games, and for the life of me, I can't figure out why.

kipwinger got a reaction from Uncle Danny in Wings - Flyers Trade Partners?
I like the idea of adding Carter, but that's no what I want to address here. Adding anyone that's 26 years old and an established player DOES give you immediate help AND future help. A quality guy at that age is likely to remain a solid and productive member of your team for at least the next 5 or 6 years. Don't get me wrong, draft picks help, and they are REALLY important. But on a team like the Wings, it's very likely a good draft pick won't even break the lineup until he's 25 or 26, and even then, many of them are unknown quantities at the NHL level.

kipwinger got a reaction from Uncle Danny in Brad Richards
Given all of our pressing needs on defense and how much we're going to have to pay for those, if the Wings sign Brad Richards to the (ungoldly) contract he's going to sign somewhere, I'll probably throw up. Also, I'll probably start assuming that Ken Holland and Jimmy D have been replaced by some sort of pod people genetically engineered in a laboratory by Glen Sather.

kipwinger got a reaction from e_prime in Let's summarize...
Wait, it gets better. After they sign with other teams for seven million each, Selanne will leave the team he wants to retire with, and Jovanovski will take a massive pay cut to leave a team and city that he's happy with, and then the Wings will sign them both and be back in the hunt. This is only logical after all. Thank god he's the smart one here (and clearly not prone to whimsically imagining outrageous salaries and FA destinations and acquisitions without any sort of historical precedent).

kipwinger got a reaction from LeftWinger in Thoughts on Joni Pitkanen
You had me right up until you didn't. I"m going to be very disappointed if the Wings sign Tanguay or Jokinen. What better way to spend money and add absolutely no toughness or physical play up front. Remember that Sharks series? Do you realistically think that Alex Tanguay or Jussi Jokinen would have made one bit of difference in that one? I know they score (so please don't list off a bunch of numbers to me), but we scored last year, and the year before, we always have plenty of scoring up front. We don't have size, toughness, or depth in the top six. Please, please, please, sign Brooks Laich, Erik Cole, or make an offer sheet for Andrew Ladd. Anything other than another 190 lb. European forward.

replace the much aged and often broken Rafalski, and get stronger and deeper up front by adding the much aged and often broken Selanne and Jovanovski? Am I missing something?
