RNH is maybe the most underrated player in the league.   That's why.   He scores more than Mantha,  or Larkin for that matter,  by a pretty wide margin (.71 points per game Vs.  .62 and. 67 respectively). Not that big a deal right?  Wrong.  Since neither Mcdavid nor Draisaitl can be relied upon to play a full game RNH has been increasingly used in the defensive zone and this season started there a whopping 53% of the time.   Larkin, for comparisons sake,  only started in the defensive zone 46% of the time. He's the answer to the question, "what if Dylan Larkin could have worse deployment but score just as much".  He also won 54% of his 1500 plus faceoffs last season.
In short,  he's a beast. I'd gladly trade a top winger,  our 3rd best defensive prospect,  and move back two spots in the draft (where we will still get a great player) for that guy.
But what do I know? Mantha had a cool between the legs goal a few days ago so maybe he's the better player.

Yeah, F*** Boston! As long as they don't win, I don't care who wins. Despite knowing that Boston vs St. Louis would likely be a better series, I want to see Carolina and San Jose in the Finals...

Gifted or not gifted the PP, SJ was not given 4 goals. Vegas kills that penalty, they win, end of story. Vegas deserved to loose.
Obviously the Vegas PK and the cloudier goal were not identical, however in both scenarios something fluky happened and in both scenarios the team that lost couldn’t recover from it which was on them, you can’t blame the team that took advantage.
You want to put an “asterisk” next to it, then go do it to every cup winner ever. Every game has bad calls, you show me a game that was called to perfection. As long as it’s not a call that ends the game (ie. the Dallas/buffalo goal) then it’s fair game. Vegas needs to stop crying about a bad call, and they need to look in the mirror and see why they actually lost.

I don't want to see BOS win anything. That city has won enough in all it's major sports team.

Johnsson has also reportedly turned down a $2 mill and $2.6 mill bridge contract. He'll get at least $3 mill, as will Kapanen.
They essentially have $9 mill in cap space headed into the summer with 4 or 5 roster spots to fill and these players to re-sign:
Marner - $10 mill Johnsson - $3 mill Kapanen - $3 mill Gardiner - $5 mill Hainsey - $1 mill Ozhiganov - $1 mill Screwed doesn't begin to describe it. They're losing good players no matter what.

I think we are due for another bottom 4-7 year. So yea I wouldn't mind. But only on a 1 year deal. Datz will bring more people to LCA as well, which is really needed. I for one, would go to at least more one game to see Datz play again.
I am not bent on how he left like many are. Life happens, things change, not like he cost us a Cup or he joined TOR. If he going to come back to the NHL, it may as well be in a Red Wing jersey. I would rather see him in the KHL than join another NHL team outside of the Red Wings.
Not going to lie, I would love to see Datz and Panarin on the same line. Wishful thinking.

Some of the bigger moves Yzerman made rebuilding the bolts:
To PHI: Gudas, 1st, 3rd -------------- Bad. Coburn isn't a big enough upgrade to justify this. Gave away solid picks.
    To TBL: Coburn
To BOS: Brett Connolly -------------- Possible example of what could become of Svechnikov?
    To TBL: 2nd, 2nd
To ARI: DeAngelo --------------------- Bad. Poor return for a possibly very good young Dman.
    To TBL: 2nd
To LAK: Bishop, 5th ------------------ Cernak was a great pickup, but Bishop may end up the superior G to Vasi
    To TBL: Budaj, Cernak, 7th
To PHI: Filppula, 4th, 7th ------------ Gave away Fil and a 7th, but it saved cap space. Should never gave Fil that contract.
    To TBL: Streit
    To PIT: Streit
    To TBL: 4th
To MTL: Drouin ----------------------- Good. Got rid of problem child and Serg is more valuable.
    To TBL: Sergachev
To VGK: Gusev, 2nd, 4th ----------- Bad. Gave up a lot in picks and Gusev. Should never have acquired Garrison.
    To TBL: Vegas selects Garrison
To NYR: Namesnikov, Howden, Hajek, 1st, 2nd ------ Good (so far)
    To TBL: McDonagh, Miller
To PHI: Meszaros --------------------- Good. Meszaros turned out to be poop
    To TBL: 2nd
To NYI: Wishart ----------------------- Good. Wishart ended up being nothing and Roloson was crucial to early TBL success
    To TBL: Roloson
To COL: Downie ---------------------- Good. Turned Downie into a 1st.
    To TBL: Quincey
    To DET: Quincey
    To TBL: 1st
To NSH: Caron, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd ---- Bad. Lindback ended up being worthless. Gave away Picks.
    To TBL: Lindback, Wilson, 7th
To OTT: Conacher, 4th ------------- Good. Bishop is now one of the best and Conacher is AHL.
    To TBL: Bishop
To NYR: St. Louis, 2nd -------------- Good. Great return for a player he couldn't keep.
    To TBL: Callahan, 1st, 1st, 7th
To CBJ: Taormina, Tyrell ------------ Could have been a steal for Yzerman, but he let Marchessault walk after this trade
    To TBL: Marchessault, Smith
To NYI: 1st ----------------------------- 1st ended up being Ho-Sang, the two 2nds ended up being forgettable (so far)
    To TBL: 2nd, 2nd
He's acquired most of his players through draft and/or trades, and doesn't really have too many homeruns from the UFA market besides Stralman. He's passed out some suspect contracts to the likes of Callahan, Carle, and Filppula, but then he's also found unknown players like Johnson and Gourde who've contributed a lot.
IMO it doesn't seem to me like Yzerman is overly good at trades or contracts... His real talent looks to be recognizing potential where others may not see it. This has led him to get Jon Cooper, Kucherov, Point, Palat, Roloson, Stralman, Johnson, Gourde, Bishop. Most of those names have been absolutely crucial to the Bolts success.
However its burned him too on Carle, Filppula, Garrison, and Lindback, and not seeing it in Gudas, Marchessault, and DeAngelo. I think the difference has been Yzerman actively seeks to solve the problems when they arise. Carle bought out, Filppula dumped, Garrison dumped, Drouin stonewalled then traded. That's what I like about him, Holland has been content to just leave bad contracts on the books and wait them out.

Currently an RFA, can become a UFA next summer. If the Wings are interested in him, the smart play is to wait until next summer and try to sign him to a not-insane deal. That would mean we risk losing him to another team in a sign-and-trade, but, personally, I'm really not sure it's worth giving the Jets what they'd probably want. Specifically, I'm guessing the ask would be something like Mantha/Athanasiou/Hronek + pick/prospect. Maybe that trade makes some sense in a vaccum, but knowing Trouba can and probably will hit the market next summer as a free man, I just think it makes more sense to wait. If another team trades for him and we miss the boat, oh well.

    Kucherov -2nd round (58)
    Vasilevskiy - 1st round (19)
    Braden point- 3rd round (79)
    Tyler Johnson - undrafted
That's just off top of my head

He also acquired Ben bishop before trading him a few years later to Dallas

Yeah I agree. 22 years is such a long time, even if he was a major part of Yzerman taking over, like the Wings are playing it out to be. No way it's doesn't effect him in some way.
This was right after. He appears to be more up beat, I think?

It doesnt really change my cofidence one way or another.
You gotta think that with the draft only 2 months away that Holland will still be heavily involved with this one, which makes sense considering his history as a scout. Having both Yzerman AND Holland at the helm for rhe draft gives me reason for optimism, but I dont think it changes our picks all that much if at all.
Where I really think the advantage will be is with roster management. Yzerman can utilize buyouts or trade away bad contracts more easily than Holland could because he doesn't have to fix his own mistakes and allows Holland some measure of saving face.
Also, I don't think he makes the same moves in free agency as Holland does, although I do think he lets Kronwall come back for another year if he wants to. Those 2 have history. I just dont think you'll see him bring in the Vanek types anymore.

To be honest, Holland has started to win me back over the last 2 seasons. He's done some great drafting, he has his flaws without a doubt and I am sure Yzerman will as well.
Anyone have a link to his press conference?
