Everything except the bold I get. The bold is what surprises me, why wouldnt you want him to break out and become a stud winger? I'm not saying he will, but when you are a fan of a team you should hope that every player hits their ceiling.

I would just like to point out that the Wings had glaring needs at every position on the roster. Not a fan of the Holland/Wright drafts but taking what they thought was BPA was the right decision. 

First off, I never said or insinuated that Zadina was even in the same stratosphere as McDavid. So lets just move on from that.
As far as you wanting Hughes or Dobson, I get that, I find nothing wrong with that statement. We had a glaring need on D, and instead we took BPA. My issue with your statement was this:

As far as you looking forward to Zadina not improving 3 years from now, I find that sad. You would rather our #3 prospect turn out to be a bust so you can use that to mock strangers on a message board, rather than hope he proves you wrong and becomes a star winger. I'm just so sick of this tired false narrative that everything Holland did was awful, the way people spin things to force this BS is exhausting. Two damn teams passing on him is not "free falling".

There is no point, some people just wear blinders when it comes to anything Holland is responsible for. He could have drafted McDavid and they would be saying there is something wrong with him.
See this is fair, I totally get the mindset that we should have gone D. With that said, and I'm not talking about you, just because we possibly should have gone D, does NOT mean that Zadina is a bust like some try to push.

He's obviously putting the work in and the skill is obviously there. And he's playing top line minutes against other teams best players and isn't even remotely close to getting caved in. As basically rookie. It's lazy of you to just look at his offensive production and say "muh player is teh bust" . I have no horse in this race and I called his play s*** when it was s***. But I call it like I see it. The kid is playing well. 

This is almost the worst analysis of a player I have ever read.

I definitely see what you are saying, but when your friend is the best option out there, you are doing a disservice to the team by not hiring him. This isnt a situation where Yzerman is hiring a no name to coach simply because they are friends.

Unfortunately those are the bad breaks in sports. You can make the best deal in the world, but the player you acquire can get injured the next day. Sucks, but it is what it is.

I wish him the best. Clearly the best move for him as he sucked last year, but over the years he was definitely an underrated player.

BriseBois doesn't have to make a trade with Yzerman, but if he wants to sign his RFA's, he does have to make some trades. Detroit are one of the few trade partners these teams trying to shed cap space have. If BriseBois doesn't like Yzerman's ask, cool. Move on to the next team. 

So your justification for taking on two bad contracts is that some other bad contracts will be falling off next offseason? We're finally getting some cap flexibility. Don't f*** that up by taking on two more bad contracts that no team wants, for minimal compensation.
The likelihood that pick (assuming it's 28-31) is a player (bottom six forward / bottom pair defenseman) is probably around 30-40%, an impact player (top six forward / top four defenseman), around 5-10%, and elite player, less than 1%... That's not worth taking on $9.5M in cap space for the next 3-4 years.
Again, Tampa has zero leverage here. Don't help out a divisional rival, unless we're getting heavily compensated. A late 1st round pick doesn't come close to making it worthwhile.

Nothing. Mantha should and likely will get significantly more money and term than Bertuzzi. He's a much more important player to the future of this team. Mantha is a legitimate top line winger, that can drive offense. Bertuzzi is a middle six complimentary winger, that needs help to produce offense.

If you have a good D (ie. not elite D), I do think you can win if you are elite down the middle. See Pittsburgh as an example of that, wasn't Letang out when they won the cup a few years back?

Absolutely not. But, any time you lose an elite player to free agency, regardless of position, you're not going to be as good.
Would St. Louis be as good if they lost O'Reilly? No. Or Perron? No. 
Edmonton and Toronto lack defense for sure, but they have many other holes in their roster as well.
I'm not arguing that you shouldn't build a team around an elite defensive core, I'm arguing that you can build at team around an elite offensive core. But ideally you build a team with a bit of everything. Think about Tampa, with an elite center (Point), winger (Kucherov), defenseman (Hedman), and goalie (Vasilevskiy)...
