Do you remember the Alfredsson season? He led the team in points. 18G/31A. Dragged them into the playoffs. Zetterberg and Datsyuk were very unhealthy for the 2nd half of that season.
Richards and Modano were total failures tho for sure.

Very fair point, especially based on Det & TO. Just to play devils advocate, he did take the 03 Ducks within 1 game of winning a cup with what I believe was a very young team, Oates and Stumpy being the exceptions.

kliq got a reaction from F.Michael in Vernon is HOF bound. Ahead of Ozzy and Hank. Wha?
Sorry, what I meant was who is more deserving then him that wasn't already in the HOF. So essentially Hextall, Vanbiesbrouck, Cujo, Potvin, Richter, Osgood, and Khabibulan in your opinion.
My thoughts are this, I've always thought the bar for goalies is ridiculously high when it comes to the HOF. They let a ton of goalies in from the old days, but in modern hockey (lets say last last 30 years) its just Fuhr, Hasek, Roy, Belfour and Brodeur. There is no way only 5 goalies in 3 decades should get in when the bar is nowhere close to as high for skaters or the previous generation.
    http://hockeygoalies.org/awards/halloffame.html
Is he the most deserving goalie of the goalies eligible? That's a fair question, probably not. I definitely think Cujo, Hextall, and Osgood are more deserving, I disagree with Potvin. As for Vanbiesbrouck, Richter, and Khabibulan, I don't know as I think I would have to do a deep dive. I think of all four of those guys in a similar tier.

Trade tree from the Mantha Trade:
Jakob Vrana: traded for 7th rd pick and Dylan McLaughlin
2021 1st round pick:  Sebastian Cossa
2022 2nd round pick: Dmitri Buchelnikov
Richard Panik: traded with a 2nd round pick for Nick Leddy...who was later traded with Luke Witkowski for another 2nd round pick + Oskar Sundqvist + Jake Walman
So basically, the assets from Mantha got the Wings: Cossa, Buchelnikov, Walman, Sundqvist, McLaughlin and a 2nd and 7th round pick this summer.
And the Caps got Mantha and his whopping 55 points since the trade.
Still a big win for SteveYzerman.
Regina and Saskatoon are both cities in Saskatchewan.

It does suck, but I'd still do it all over again. Mantha has been brutal on Washington often being a healthy scratch, so the way I look at it is we got Cossa for Mantha. IMO it went from being a steal to just a win.

Long time no see everyone, glad to be back!
I think this move will bite TO in the ass. Dubas did a bad job constructing this roster, and I see this is as him giving himself a second chance. Maybe Sheldon Keefe meshes better with these particular players, but I worry that TO is about to go down the road of the Oilers a few years ago, a team with great talent on paper, that just can't win. Not to mention, they are likely loosing their entire blueline in the summer. They couldnt have handled the Nylander/Mathews/Marner situation any worse. They should have traded Nylander for a young D-man, the a lesser deal with Marner first, then a larger deal with AM. But hindsight is 20/20.

I get it, but even in the AHL you are still paid a very good salary to play a game. As a fan though, its sad to see when players regress like this.

problem is we didnt get back "that" 2nd.  Chances of a 2nd rounder doing anything impactful are bad no matter where they are, but we definitely lost on this because Nick Leddy stunk the entire season.  He did not play well and did not help us.  The trade today is a win, but the overall Leddy deal is a loss.

So, anecdotally... ~60% of the Chicago fan takes I've seen = "WTF. No. Dude can play. Good center. We should've kept him."
His shooting percentage (12.5) may (not) be sustainable. He wasn't great on faceoffs this past season (42.6%). His possession stats aren't particularly good.
But, all things considered, this is a low-risk, high-reward signing. I like it.

Ill be honest, I dont know much about his draft record in Tampa. As for this pick, I was just read Bob Mackenzie's rankings and he had Edvinsson 3rd, so its not like its some kind of reach.

Yeah, McKenzie's one of the reasons why this pick shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. I might be misremembering, but I think he had him as high as #2 at one point...? And, for anyone who doesn't know, McKenzie's lists are based solely on where his scout contacts have these players ranked – so, Edvinsson's very much been on actual NHL people's radars for a while now.

Taking defensemen with prime picks is actually the one area where I'm not so sold on Yzerman, given his iffy record on that front when he was in Tampa.
But, yeah, this isn't one of those picks that makes you scratch your head and wonder what they were thinking. Edvinsson was definitely going in the top 10. More than a few people felt he was worth taking in the top 5.

I like the pick. We needed a 1st pairing LD, and after the Seider pick a few years ago, I have faith in Yzermans ability to pick a high end D-man.
Also, he was ranked 5th, and we took him 6th, so its not like its some kind of reach.

I literally said "but what the f*** do I know?"... And from that you take that I think I know better than Steve Yzerman? LOL
So you've seen Yzerman's list, I take it? He obviously had "your guy" ahead of "my guy"...
Who are you to say that he drafted either of those guys based on position? He could have had Edvinsson top 3 on his list, followed by a bunch of wingers. He could have had Cossa top 10 on his list. You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Yzerman keeps talking about best player available, but you think for whatever reason, he's drafting based on position, despite his first pick being one of our areas of strength.
Not at all a "big old loss" for me. I don't love either of the picks, but I completely trust Yzerman knows what he's doing. I would say he's earned that...

kliq reacted to marcaractac in Seattle Expansion Draft: Who you pick?
Agreed. I'd go Hronek, Cholo, Lindstrom at this point. I like Stecher, but there are a dozen UFA Stechers every year.
Up front I go with Larkin, Bert, Fabbri, Vrana, Ras, Erne, Smith.
Svech has done nothing to show he deserves protection. Not only that, he has shown no reason for Seattle to draft him. Why waste a protection spot on him?
Like Stecher, Namestnikov is a guy you can replace in UFA easily. Why waste a spot on him over a young player? Plus, Stecher and Namestnikov are both UFA in a year themselves.
Erne earned a spot with his play this season. Smith has an element to his game nobody else in the system has, and that we can use in the lineup now. I'm indifferent with Hirose. Skilled guy, but not the type of player who will be around when it matters.

I definitely see what you are saying, but when your friend is the best option out there, you are doing a disservice to the team by not hiring him. This isnt a situation where Yzerman is hiring a no name to coach simply because they are friends.
