Holland hasn't done the best job. Miller contract was useless and Helm is overpaid for what he can do (I don't care if he would have gotten more money as a free agent). But I also can't agree with people blaming Holland for not landing some of the players like Lucic, Okposo or Eriksson. It's upto the players whether they want to be here or not. Detroit is not UFA destination it used to be and we have to realize that.
Some people revert into their former high school logic and start blaming Holland for literally every single thing. No one can take you seriously if you can't differentiate between an instance when Holland really IS at fault and when he ISN'T.
So far I'm frowning at Holland for the Helm/Miller deals but giving a slow golf clap for the Vanek deal and a nod for Nielsen with a questioning look about the length of term. We can only truly know if these things pan out once the season is underway.

Saw that goal in person. Dude really knows how to make people hate him. Dubinsky must've taken exception to the way too extreme celly for a center ice goal. Words exchanged and PK took a shot at him and got called. The whining was him arguing the penalty. From that point on, every time he touched the puck all 40% of the stadium booed him (yes, there were more empty seats than full ones in Columbus). It's gotta be fun to be so hate-inducing

Every team is up against the cap unless their a team transitioning to youth in which case nobody wants our aging vets with lots of term. If we trade anybody it's going to be Jurco/Pulks/Helm/Smith

Why all the hate on Smith. He and Kindl have looked like the best 3rd pairing in the NHL so far. Is it because he was a first rounder and people want more points out of him? He covers a lot of ice and breaks up a lot of plays out there. A turnover here and there is no reason to crucify him.

Lucic and Marchand are easily my least favorite players in the league. I hope they take turns taking runs at each other, racking up 41 game suspensions back to back to back

Take Lucic, add about 75 IQ points, remove about 20 punds of fat, and give him a soul and you have Abdlekader: a big, rugged, power forward that can score 20 goals. No need for the "nasty" part.

Am I the only one who took this as some dry wit from Franzen? I thought he was implying Nyquist did not like Babcock. Franzen always seemed to have a pretty dry, sarcastic sense of humor in his interviews.

The major difference between Nyquist and Tatar is that Nyquist is a goose, and Tatar is a Mexican water bug.
Now the thing about geese is that some can lay golden eggs, like Gus did during the 13-14 season. However, to lay golden eggs, geese have to be loose. Hence the phrase "loosey goosey". Because geese are not always loose, a goose like Nyquist will be streakier from time to time.
Being a Mexican water bug, Tatar is obviously more lively and quick with the puck. But the main advantage of being a Mexican water bug is that it is a made-up insect that only exists inside the mind of Mickey Redmond. So basically the sky is the limit on Tatar's potential and what he will develop into. Don't ask me why Mickey's made-up bug is Mexican.
