  1. Yes first round exists happen, but it's what, 4 out of the last 5 years for us now? That can't be shrugged off by saying "it happens. Someone gets to win and someone gets to lose". It's very clear that we're lacking some punch to finish teams off in a 7 game series. We can compete, but as of late we've been coming up short, and it's happening far too often for my liking. You know next year Boston is going to be better, just another team in the east that we'll have to fight with for a playoff spot. Something needs to be done.
  2. Bingo. Look at Game 6, Bishop looked shaky, real shaky. Tons of big juicy rebounds, and we couldn't do a damn thing. So annoying.
  3. Phaneuf is the most likely option. We almost had him at the deadline, and I don't think there's a chance in hell he's in Toronto come October. Adding Green or Franson as well would be great. Something like a top 6 of: Kronner/Phaneuf (would be a beastly top 2, love the though of it) DeKeyser/Quincey (these guys were by far our best pair in the playoffs) Smith/???? (Franson could look great here, or just give it to Marchenko) Adding some kind of Top 6 forward would be ideal as well. No idea who though. Trade Howard to Edmonton for Nugent-Hopkins?
  4. Agreed on both accounts. This off-season is a big one. Too many first round exits lately. We have to explore the option of dealing Howard, he's the most marketable asset we've had for years. If we can get a good deal, let's pull the trigger. I say look at Edmonton, they have too many young forwards, and nothing on the back end. Chiarelli's not afraid of dealing young talent, and said has much in a recent interview.
  5. We had Cole for 6 games. While it would be nice to have him, I think we can survive. As for Franzen, his best days are behind him. Still a huge body to have in front of the net, but he's no sniper anymore.
  6. No you can't just replace Lidstrom, but you can have a plan in place. Try and get a few guys to improve your top 6...not just Quincey. There was not a whole lot done here. Trades can be explored. Not asking for norris-calibre defenceman, but some solid reliable players. Why not Wideman or Boychuk (who has been great since being traded). Why not go after Keith Yandle, Tyler Myers?...Weber/Doughty/Subban are obviously not realistic, but there are other good D-men who have been available. Dekeyser was a great signing and he's going to be a top 2 D man for us, but at least some of that was to play for his hometown team. Kronner has been stellar for along time, but he's on the downside of his career now as well. TIme to again start looking for some D. Upfront, i can't blame Holland. He's been trying and drafting well. Tatar and Nyqvist have bags of ability, and lots of potential, though they both need to improve their playoff performances. Glendening is a stroke of genius, and going to be a key part of this team. Very high hopes for Mantha, I hope this kid comes through. What the hell happened to Jurco. Id consider putting him a package deal. Howard can be a marketable asset this summer, but if we're going to trade him, lets get a good return.
  7. So disappointing. We actually played a damn good first 40 mins tonight. Tatar and Gus looked dangerous, Glendenning great as usual, Kindl was pretty solid. If ONLY Miller had scored that lob, or Tatar had scored one of those 2 chances. Dats had some shots, but noticeably, to me, Z looked slow, real slow. I think maybe he's only got 1 more season in him, and we need someone to complement him for sure. Mrazek was solid, give him the job next year, and possibly see if we can get a good deal for Howard. If not, keep Howard, and let them battle it out. As usual, we could use some D. Not sure who's available though. Maybe the big move for Phaneuf might happen? Game 4 is the turning point. We put that game away, we're up 3-1. I can't say Game 6 as much, because we had that horrible start. If we'd started Game 6 like we had tonight, we might have won it. Hopefully Montreal takes these clowns out.
  8. No problem with Holland except for the clear lack of planning to replace Lids. Everyone knew it was coming for a few years in advance. Lidstrom wasn't going to last forever, and there was no backup plan put in place..ever. Throw the book at the top defensive free agents, don't try and underpay. Hell, at least Philly tried to sign Weber to an offer sheet. Sure it didn't work, but it's an attempt. I know we tried to get Suter, but we failed. And we haven't done much else.

Well that sucked. First period killed us. Nice goals by Tatar, but our D was brutal tonight. If we're going to have a shot at winning Game 7, we have to come out playing from the get go. We have to hit, pepper Bishop with tons of shots, and stay out of the box (which we actually did a good job of tonight). The way I see it, Game 7 goes one of two ways: 1) Wings win a tight one. Getting an empty netter at the end to win by 2. 2) Similar to tonight. Wings fall behind early. Get close, and then lose by a few goals. Detroit absolutely needs that first goal, get Tampa on their heels and force them to take some more risks, possibly opening them up for odd man rushes.
  10. a few things. Bringing up LA's a tough one. First, it's the west. La would have been 2nd/3rd in the East. Second, LA started to get this good by being absolutely terrible for years. So did Chicago. So did Pittsburgh. Washington tried the same thing. Obviously we're a better team right now then the Hawks,Pens,Kings,Caps were in their bad years, but at some point it's probably going to happen to us. And i'll take that, if we get a player like McDavid out of the deal. I don't believe for a second we're going to tank this year, but I also don't believe we're going to be anywhere close to battling for the divison. We'll be in a race for 6th-10th like we were this year. I think the big question is, at what point does Management make a BIG move? Defence has been getting worse for years now. Nothing's been done. Yes we may have tried to sign some free agents, and failed miserably, but hey, we are allowed to make trades too. Pull the trigger on something. It's not going to magically improve here.
  11. Tough to disagree with the OP. Our defence is brutal. Kronwall's still great, but there were times were he looked awful. He needs a much better year. Smith had a great end to the season and I hope he keeps it up. Obviously big E big is a plus. Dekeyser's got bags of potential, time to start seeing it. Not even going to discuss our D past this games. And of course if any of our top 4 goes down, it gets really bad. Howard needs to show he can be better. Not impressed whatsoever last year. If he repeats last years form, we are in big trouble. No guarantee Monster is going to be as reliable as he was last year. When our offence struggles to score, we don't have the players to grind it out, that's part of the issue. Keep the kid line together, stick Goose with Weiss, and hope that Arizona will take Franzen and Kindl for Yandle.

Urgh, that's do damn annoying. Bad calls by the refs. Stupid penalties on our part too, and just stupid play. We got 1 to get back in this game, and we maybe could have snuck a lucky one in the 3rd. Now we have to score another one just to tie it. Not sure I see a victory here folks. We need to go balls to the wall in the 3rd.

I understand the point about the 25 point differential, but I don't like it when I see how close Minny is playing Colorado, Dallas is playing Anaheim, and Columbus is playing Pitts. We should at least be in this series.

Datsyuk!!! We are in it, lets stay strong boys!
  15. Monster to start game 5. I thought he played well in Game 4. At least this time he knows from the get go that he's starting and not last minute. I really feel if we win can win this one, we'll get it to 7 games. Lets go Wings!
