Another addition to a great career, congrats.

Nice logic and I fully agree here. Being sellers when there aren't a lot of sellers, especially in a shortened season is the right thing to do. Let's face reality here even if the Detroit Red Wings are making the Playoffs, it will not be a deep run so what is the point? Just to get in and bounced out against some western juggernaut team? I'd rather look at the big picture here and say screw the streak, get as many draft picks as possible and finally not having to pin so much hope on high risk high reward picks. I've looked at the list and there are lot of good defenders available in this draft class, if Holland can get a second first rounder for Filpula, I say go for it and draft a shutdown and offensive defenseman in the first round, or use both to move up. But anyways I am starting to dislike this league a lot, enjoyed the pre 2004 days much more and trade deadlines, UFA days actually meant something back then.

Would be a nice addition, though is cap hit is too high.

Iginla has given Calgary a list of 3 teams - DET on it ?!

Bouwmeester locks big minutes, can give you a solid offensive punch and is a reliable shutdown guy, his cap hit may be a bit high but if the Blues are re-signing Pietrangelo, there aren't any good UFA defenseman available in the future. -
Selanne hints at retirement still being far off
frankgrimes replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Selanne will retire as a Duck thats for sure, at best he is going to have a short stint in Winnipeg but no way we'll ever see this guy in a Winged Wheel. -
I fully agree with this, as fans we can say whatever we want the guys in charge though have to look at the big picture and get this team back into Stanley Cup contention over the next years, which weill not be an easy task.
-
Can't believe, some people are putting this on Nash. The guy is an absolute monster and doing exactly the things he was signed for. The Rangers lost all their toughness and heart and soul players! They wanted Asham for half the price of Prust, well they got exactly that a player that isn't even half as good as Brandon Prust. If that was not bad enough, Rangers also traded away Rupp which I am sure didn't fit well with the lockerroom. Rangers also have no secondary scoring, you shut down their top line and you basically win against them. If they don't make it out of at least the second round this year I expect a lot of coming/going in New York.

It does mean something, wheter some people like to admit it or not. His brother is playing on the team also, Miller might need a change of scenery and blossom again in his home-town? I am saying all things considered, it would just make too much sense - if the price is right - thats all. Rinne, Lundquist are no brainers I'll agree but the other 3: Quick - one outstanding season, outgoaltended by Bernier this year Rask - first year as the starter lets see if he can keep this up Andersson - thats a tough one all things considered I would agree, right now he is better and has a great future ahead of him. To me the olympics exactly showed, what Miller can do with a great team in front of him, yeah the Wings defense sucks but with a deep draft coming up and an elite-goaltender behind the net, this could be fixed soon. If people would like too, a case for Luongo could also be made the guy has won a gold medal.

As great as Iginla would be, no if the Wings are looking at a Flames player is has to be Jay Bouwmeester but I think Iggy will end up with the Kings or Pens anyways. -
Injured Helm: "Minor Setback", still out indefinitely, *merged*
frankgrimes replied to Tim.D's topic in General
This is just a condensed season, so if Helmer isn't 100 % don't come back. Not worth risking your career for just a few games, take the summer to become healthy again and hopefully getting over this injury soon. -
Right now I am playing Plants versus Zombies old but gold :-)

If Holland could work some real magich ere and maybe get a first for Filps, I hope the Wings are going for: Nurse, Pulock according to scoutinjg reports Nurse is an absolute beast on the D who likes to throw is body around, while Pulock has great offensive abilities, this would give us a nice pairing for at least the next decade I guess.

Finally the Perry pipedreams can stop now. Perry is a very introverted guy he doesn't like the spotlight, so Anaheim is a good place for him and his girlfriend, so I am happy for him. I am wondering, how Getzlaf feels about this deal, Perry is now making more than him? This doesn't mean Ryan will be avaiable, the Ducks do have some guys of the books soon and the cap will be going up soon which will leave them with enough money to re-sign him.

I am fully aware of that, both were exceptional players at what they did and accomplished through out their careers, but it doesn't change anything: If you can bring in an elite goaltender (name me 5 better goaltenders right now), who also is from Michigan and could be the answer to the defensive problems one would hope, a GM would at least think heavily about it. People can bring up Miller's stats this season all day long but no goaltender not even the best one Lundqvist is looking good without a real defense. The Sabres do have one outstanding defenseman but this guy is also not having his best season. Basically I would miss Abdelkader yes, he looks bad because he has to play a role he is not suited for. Justin would be a nice 3rd line energy player on a contending Wings edition.
-
Perfectly written, exactly my thoughts as well. A player coming back only makes sense if: 1. you are getting a very good one (unlikely because conterns are looking to add not substract) 2. your team IS a contender which clearly the Wings are not this season 3. indicates, he is going to re-sign with your team So all things considered, stocking up on draftpicks this year really is a nice idea. If Holland can get a mid second for White, a first for Filps + keeping his own pick it would be a nice start for the rebuild.

BOG Approves realignment, Detroit to the East in 2013/14.

Naming divisions after alltime greats would just make too much sense. -

frankgrimes replied to Tim.D's topic in General
Sucks I so hope it is not a major setback and he can come back fully healthy and be done with this damn injury. Get well soon Helmer, this team needs you like hot bread. -
It's been since forever almost a decade to be that excited about a prospect and yes I am talking about McKee. Already at 245 wait till this guy is filling out his frame, we might have another top end enforcer knocking on the door soon. I am also happy to read how Frk is using his size, the Wings of the future might finally be a tougher, hard nosed team to play against exactly the type of play you need for the East.
-
Can't wait for him to bulk up and stay with the big club, him and Smith are by far the best prospects the Wings have.
-
No GM in his right mind would speak out the truth to the media. As a GM part of your job is to keep your cards close and play them when the time is right. So I guess Kenny will look at the team before the trade deadline and then decide if it is better to be buyers or sellers. Personally I hope they are going to sell, a view first round and second round picks in a deep draft might be exactly what the doctor ordered for the Detroit Red Wings.

Getting hung up to the rafters in Detroit, is tough but if Pasha continues to play the way he does, I'd say go for it. Knowing Pasha I am sure his 500 assist will be something crazy, maybe rushing through the whole Predators team again and then a blind pass to Zetterg to finish off the play?
-
I don#t think there is a huge need for a praise/failure thread after win/loss, but the time to rebuild would have been 2 years before, when it became ovious that Nick's career would be nearing its end. At least the Wings should have started it last year.
-
Pasha has nothing left to prove here, a theke is named after him, the guy has won Stanley Cups and is easily one of the best hockey players and took a huge paycut to re-sign in Detroit. So whatever he decides to do, I won't hold it up against him. I am sure, he is missing his friends and family, so enjoy his last season.

We are the Detroit Red Wings and we are making the playoffs

If that ever happened, it must have been a loooooooooooong time ago. -
How in the world can the best olympic goalie be overrated? Buffalo Sabres aren't having anything close to a defense this year, Ryan Miller is easily one of the top 5 goalies in the NHL so worldwide. If Howard is really looking for anything close to 5 m, I'd say get a Michigander homegrown boy for a bit more and an elite goaltender. So the fact that he is from Michigan is not irrelevant, bringing in homegrown boys is never a mistake, because he helps to (re)build identity. Would love Miller in Red and White, maybe Howard + Franzen?
