3/3 GDT : Blackhawks 2 at Red Wings 1 (SO)

May god have mercy with this team. I hope the Wings can steal a point here and there for sure going to be a tough test.

3/2 around the NHL GDT (formerly Habs Pens thread)

WoW 7:6 had to look at it three times couldn't believe it before and still find it hard to believe such a high scoring game. All I can is, personally stuff like this wouldn't entertain me as a fan, where was the goaltending where the defense? I'd rather see a hard fought low scoring game than crap like this. Didn't watch it but saw the replays and it was indeed horrible. I think Crosby's concussion was a combination of bad luck, average medical stuff and of course impatience from his part. I am sure Steckel wanted to finish his hit but hardly think he wanted to give him or any other player a concussion.

O'Reilly signed to CGY offer sheet

I think Feaster is extremely on the hotseat in Calgary and he is getting extremely desperate right now. The Flames are looking more and more like the Leafs from some time ago, trade away picks for shortterm fixes and refuse to do a full rebuild. O Reilly is a great player but he is not worth 6.5 m next year and people called me crazy for wanting to offer-sheet (if he makes that far) Pietrangelo with a 7 year 56 m deal. The Avalanche can look at this from two perspectives hockey or money: Hockey you absolutely have to match, their team basically is Statsny, Landeskog, Duchene and O Reilly sure they are young and unproven but the Avalanche don't match, it will send a clear message to their upcoming UFAs that this franchise isn't about winning it is more about money for the owners and you can bet as competitive as these guys are, they won't like that. So wheter they match or not I am glad Holland didn't try an offersheet, because from a Wings perspective this team is looking at their own rebuild very soon and trading away draft picks (except for elite players) doesn't help it just hurts and prolongs your rebuild. Calgary fans deserve better than Feaster, seriously.

2/28 GDT : Red Wings 2 at San Jose Sharks 1 (SO)

Two much needed points, these two teams are going to compete for a playoff spot so a win would be huge. Although the Wings for whatever reason suck against the Sharks.
  5. Sooo another lockout coming? Just play the damn game and stop the sideshows. The NHL is really turning into a joke.

    2/27 GDT : Red Wings 1 at Kings 2

Blaming the refs doesn't help, they are atrocious but all teams are going through that, it sucks is stupid but the re is nothing you can do about it. This team needs to find a way to get a nice win streak going, otherwise making the playoffs will be a huge dogfight till the end. The game against the Sharks won't be any easier, luckily they aren't playing their best hockey right now.
  7. 4 Original 6 teams in one division baby I love it. Sure the Wings are losing Chicago but they are going to gain 3 ! Original 6 teams so heres to hope for a revival of some good old fashioned Leafs Wings wars. One thing for sure though, this team will need to bring in a big heavyweight because the East is filled with these guys. So going hard after McGrattan is a must.

Kronwall = Current Defense Points Leader

I'd rather see the nasty shutdown kronwalling machine back instead of the offensively focused version of him. Being good on the offense is nice don't get me wrong but we need a shutdown guy and he has to be that, unless he turns his defensive collapses around the cons are outhweighting the pros in that case, sadly.

    Trade Deadline buyers or sellers?

I hope they are sellers, this team is in it's transistion years and with the upcoming - experts claimed so - strong draft I believe they should look at the big longterm and not the shortterm picture here. Getting Weiss will for sure cost at least a 2 if not a first rounder and I really hope Holland doesn't repeat his Quincey failure.

    Soccer!

Never going to respect the scottish league again, because they've allowed that POS to own the Rangers and bankrupt one of the most storied franchises ever.

How much of the current trouble is attributable to injuries?

Agreed this team is not missing their superstars - well only 2 of them reamining... - the Wings are missing depth guys so not over the top roster players. Injuries can't be an excuse here, the Senators without Michalek, Spezza and Karlsson did beat the Rangers so injuries can't be used as an excuse here a team like the Wings has to be able to beat the Blue Jackets simple as that.

    Trading Filppula

I have nothing against Filps but I also agree with people stating, that he is our best asset. I could see a team like the Blue Jackets highly interested in him, they do have 3 round picks this year so if we could get a first round pick from them for him, it would be great. Better get something out of him than let him leave for nothing in the offseason right? OR Kick the tires for JayBo and offer Filps + 2nd + Kindl this would give the Flames a pick, an estabilished NHL player plus a depth guy.

    Holland looking around

Maybe just it makes too much sense? The guy has nothing left to prove here, he is playing for an organization in decline/rebuild mode and would love to retire in Russia, he will be 37 when his contract is up, so do the math here.. I agree with posters, saying that Holland has to be more aggressive now but keep in mind guys like Reilly are going to command a big prize and I highly doubt the Avalanche would deal him to this team. Yannick Weber would be nice but he is not a #1 defender, so sadly there aren't as many options as people like to think. At some point in the not so distant future Holland has to hit 1 - 2 homeruns, otherwhise this team might be looking at another streak but not a nice on.e

    2/21 GDT Columbus 3 @ Red Wings 2

Would be nice to get over the Suter/Parise thing, they've signed with the Wild and so they are never going to wear the Winged Wheel, sad but true. Suter is playing almost half the game and has to learn a new concept, new defensive partner either not in his class or a rookie (Brodin) and while struggeling he is still their best defenseman. This should tell everyone, how good this guy is. He will probably never play with another Weber and vise versa but both are simple too good but fall of a cliff, a decline for sure but Suter is easily still a top 5 defender. The Bleacherreport was quoted saying that Getzlaf and his girlfriend are loving Anaheim, he wants to end his career there and maybe work for them after retirement, so the Wings chances of getting him are none to slim. Perry has never stated anything, so there might be a chance but honestly why should he come here? Sure, the Wings are threatening their players well, staying in over the top hotels, training facilities and all that stuff but I think the CBA also includes a rule, where teams have to stay a 4 star minimum hotels so even that advantage isn't as big as it once was and the team is heading for rebuild-status very soon. So if Perry is testing the UFA market I can see him wanting to sign with some powerhouse teams maybe Vancouver imagine Perry Sedin Sedin damn scary! This is now the second time in a row the Detroit Red Wings have lost against a team, which they should be able to beat (yes I do include all the injuries other teams are having them too), these are exactly the points that could really really hurt this time in the end. I don't expect points against the Blues, Blackhawks or Predators but for sure against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

    Holland looking around

They are the Detroit Red Wings, owned by Mike Illitch so unless you have some stake into them they are not your or mine team :-) On a serious note, I expect Holland to look around because let's face the truth the guy has to hit a homerun soon if the Wings want to stay relevant for top UFAs. Normally you are giving from a position of strengh to fix a position of weakness, this team as better at the offensive side of the game so Holland has to look at that and fix the defense that way. Hopefully no one is honestly thinking trading our underperforming playeres is going to bring in a guy like JayBo ( I still want Pietrangelo next year bad). Also the Wings prospect pool is not that impressive, guys like Nyquist, Smith are standing out for a reason but the rest of pack is pretty much high risk high reward and not exactly guaranteed future NHL stars. Maybe try Filpula/Kronwall + 2 for Edler from Vancouver?

    Cody McCormick waived by Sabres

Great just great, why add toughness to a soft roster.........

    Cody McCormick waived by Sabres

Erskine can take a regulary shift, he will not be a point producer but his skating skills are decent enough to be a regular NHL player and he is really tough.
  22. frankgrimes

    Cody McCormick waived by Sabres

Exactly we are the Montreal of the West in that regard. Other than Prust whom I would have loved over Tootoo back then, they are really short of tough guys. The Blues are a big, tough and physical team I fully agree with you. McGrattan would keep these guys in check. I am sure McKee will be a beast too, but having 2 or 3 guys that can really throw with the best of the best wouldn't hurt. So I am all for a McCormick pickup.,
  23. frankgrimes

    Cody McCormick waived by Sabres

I am talking about Scott, because I have a hard time thinking of reasons why the Bruins would waive or trade Lucic for anything short of a huge overpayment? Felt pissed when we had to chance to sign a guy like McGrattan or Scott and just refused to do so. The thing with McGrattan is, he is getting missused by Trotz this guy is dead serious whenever he fights pissed and an absolutely giants, usually guys like this should be in the lineup against every tougher team in the league. Point being IF Trotz decides to dress him against us, we have no one to answer the bell Tootoo would absolutely get destroyed by him.

    Cody McCormick waived by Sabres

Imagine a future line of McKee McCormick and a top 3 enforcer holy time no one would be doing what Weber did, without paying a huge prize for it.

    Buffalo Fires Ruff

Saw this one coming, maybe Regier didn't want to do it but their new owner told him to his job. I guess the next Sabres coach will be either Eakins or Bouche if Tampa is stupid enough to fire him.
