Sorry if this sounds stupid....the Isles have done the trade in order to get to the capfloor = + 5 million right? So I guess they have to pay him otherwhise why should this contract count against the cap? Or is this just a new "punishment" rule? Backes needs to get Kronwalled and Kronwalled hard but for whatever reason, Kronner hasn't been as physical as we know he can be, which sucks. This is going to be a hard game I am sure the Blues are still pissed off about the Backes call and will come out firing especially at home. So the Wings better be ready or it could get ugly.

Hockey used to be a game with hard hits, now even clean but impactful ones are getting punished during a game, powerplays are given out like nothing I really don't know what this league is trying to accomplish here.

Holland was quoted saying he'd give himself 20 games into the season before evaluating his team. So we are almost half point their and yet some things are obvious: 1. Wings need a bonafide top pairing defenseman 2. I want to see Datsyuk getting another cup before heading back to Russia 3. Should this team not be a playoff team by at the end of February time to bring in the youth and hope for a great pick to start off the rebuild. Get well soon Helm, this team is needing you more than ever

Fully agree I love teams wearing vintage jerseys, it is a nice gesture and obviously showing that they do care about tradition.

Suter is by far the best defenseman on the Wild, without looking it up I'd have a hardtime naming any other defenseman on that team but I do know, that they have a very promising young rookie named Brodhin. People also have to keep in mind that Suter has never been that sexy, flashy offensive defenseman he is an elite stay at home defender. Up to this season Weber always had thte assurance of Suter staying back, so he could play a more offensive type of game but now he is paired with a guy, who is playing his second NHL season, so Weber has to be more defensive responsible I think that's the reason, why his point totals are down. These two just completemented each other perfectly so I am not surprised they aren't that dominate, but keep in mind stats aren't always telling the whole story. Suter also has to adopt to a new coach,. system including all the pressure of being the #1 defenseman on the team.

For the cup their goaltending has to be a lot better, they are deep at almost every position other than that. My picks are Rangers and Kings doubt NJ can repeat their magical run without Zach. As much as I would love Backes wearing the winged wheel I'd rather have Pietrangelo and he is by far the more realistic option, he will be RFA in the upcoming summer :-) So lets hope SL is going to lowball him an he makes to the point where offersheets are allowed.

Right call but the league has to look at all the stupid 5:3 penalties and how the refs are killing all sorts of gameflow in way too many games, it has become extremely boring. Loved the hit from Backes, guy is an absolute beast.

Even in transistion years losing against Columbus - with no offense, firpowr at all is just unacceptable. These two points could really hurt the team in the end. Divisionwise there will not be a better chance to win back to back games. Now with Gustavsson, Howard and Smith a small move has to be done.

Nice to win but seriously that phantom 5minute call was just stupid, referees should be held more accountable. Don't want to see games decided in such a fashion one way or the other.

God refs watch the game and rereread your damn rules, don't turn hockey into a joke.

I officially want a rule which allows to decline a powerplay its like we're getting a PK tough it doesn't matter, our special teams suck. This team is: Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Howard, Gustavsson + Helm when healthy others are passengers

Screamed at my tv and woke up my GF cause it wasa that loud but in all honesty WE ARE playing HOCKEY put your damn whistles down, stupid refs they are destroying the game.

By finding the right mix between skill and toughness and ship out players who aren't willing to buy into the system or for whatever reason simple can't. Well this is exactly what some people (including me) mentioned pre-season, he is a great second pairing defenseman but not a #1 without the perfect human.

Tough to accept isn't it and we all know how they did it.............
