  1. Was wondering how things were going for Ras vs. Tippett vs. Vilardi-the 2 keys many said we needed over Ras. To date here are the stats:

Rasmussen 32 games 24 goals which is .75 goals per game and 25 assists

Tippett 43 games 29 goals which is .67 goals per game and 32 assists

Vilardi 23 games 14 goals which is .61 goals per game and 29 assists.

All have missed games for one reason or another. Rasmuusen and Vilardi for surgery/injuries and Tippet started in the NHL. None are dominating their league but are playing well. Really not much that seperates them at the Junior level.

  2. Good topic.

AA is going to be a problem. Might be the reason why his name was floated in some rumors. I dont expect him to sign for anything less than 4 million per. In fact I expect him to be traded because of this. I just hope in brings back a quality Dman.

As for Mantha and larkin you are talking our leading G scorer and points guys. The building blocks for our franchise for the next 12+ years. You get them signed long term. I would offer Mantha 7 years at 5 mill per and Larkin 8 years at 5 million. Little high for now but should become a steal in a couple years. It also keeps the expiration dates seperate down the road when it comes time to resign them down the road.

Now that what I would do. Is that what I think happens? No. I expect AA to be moved, Mantha to get low-balled and become a hold out, and Larkin to take a 3 year bridge deal.

  3. After a really rough start Geno is playing better. On Christmas day he had played 26 games had 2 goals 3 assists and was -8. Those number for a full AHL season come out to 6 goals 9 assists and a -24..... Yuck.

Since then Geno has played 21 games with 5 goals 10 assists and is +5. Over a full season that comes out to 18 goals 36 assists and a +18. Which is about the same as last season. Not dominating numbers but a nice rebound to a really bad start. Last year he had 20 goals and 31 assists IIRC.

  4. Good move. We as a team in a cap era can't afford to have 9+ million tied up on the G's. Mrazek was a RFA and was going to demand 4.5 to 5 million per year to resign. He has been a headace in the locker room. Time for everyone to move on. This is a deal that should work for everyone: the RW's, the Flyers, and Mrazek. I now hope he gets red hot and leads to Flyers to the finals! Then they will have to resign him and we get the other pick!

  5. Holland can go and take the entire front office with him. They as a group are the ones that have struck out on every big name UFA the last 7 years, had no plan for when Lidstrom etc... retired, and up until recently havent drafted well. Its time for a new front office. Could the new front office be worse? yes. They also could be better. Doing the same over and over and expecting a different result is.........

Really? Are you offended that @krsmith17 doesn't agree with your bad trade idea? Calm down, you sound like a child.

Rank these categories year after year and see what it tells you.

    ok here you go:

    14/15: 7th in goals, 20th in assists, 12th in points, 16th TOI/game, 34th hits, 74th in blocks, 46th in giveaways, 2nd in takeaways

    15/16: 7th in goals, 58th is assists, 33rd points, 21st in toi/game, 64th in hits, 160th blocks, 78th in giveaways, 10th in takeaways

    16/17: 2nd in goals, 66th assists, 37th points, 32nd toi/game, 50th hits, 131st blocks, 84th giveaways, 8th takeaways

    17/18: 75th goals, 55th assists, 57th points, 51st toi/game, 38th hits, 96th blocks, 21st giveaways, 5th takeaways

Again top 30 Dman that happens to be having a bad year to date. In other words.... we buy low. Which matters more? The 3 great full seasons or the bad half a season? he is 25. Turns 26 next month. Best is still to come.

Ah that clears up your suspect methodology "put in years, combine stats, imagine totals"

Well then you're dumber than a 6 year old, cause your numbers are wrong lol

    then so is NHL.com

First off, I morally disagree with the entire concept of ranking or judging a player solely on numbers (especially a Dman), but even more so I disagree with using season stat totals (How do you consider GP?). Did you really collect 8 rankings on 180+ Dmen over the last 3.5 seasons and do all the math on all of them? Average all of them? That's over 5,000 data points were talking. How and why did you calculate a half season? Did you collect stats on 180+ Dmen for the last 41 games of the season? That's a super weird number to find, did you have to go through game-by-game stats to get to the right number? Or are you referring to the 54 games played this season?

I have so many questions, which along with your reputation for making up numbers, gives me the suspicion you're not being entirely accurate here.

Among NHL Dmen, Faulk's ranking starting with this year and working back 5 seasons to the 2013/14 season:

I used "top" numbers because most of these stats involve a large number of ties. This eliminates that potential to swing the ranking either up or down for the most part.

    Goals: Top 77, Top 4, Top 9, Top 10, Top 90 (2013/14)

    Assists: Top 56, Top 66, Top 58, Top 20, Top 39

    Points: Top 59, Top 37, Top 33, Top 12, Top 45

    TOI/G: Top 52, Top 32, Top 21, Top 16, Top 34

    Hits: Top 40, Top 50, Top 64, Top 35, Top 91

    Blocks: Top 97, Top 131, Top 160, Top 74, Top 94

    Giveaways: Top 21, Top 86, Top 79, Top 46, Top 54

    Takeaways: Top 5, Top 8, Top 10, Top 2, Top 15

But what else can be learned?

Assuming your counting this season as the half season... how did you get to the numbers you reached? When averaged for the *3.65* seasons:

7th in goals: More like top 25

37th in assists?  More like top 50

25th in points? More like top 35

    22nd in TOI/G? More like top 30

34th in hits? More like top 47

100th in blocked shots? More like top 115

42nd in giveaways? More like top 58

3rd in takeaways? More like top 6

Now I just did the lazy way and averaged the averages. If you are putting in the work and have a better method please let me know and I'll hush up.

Some numbers you appear to be close on, and others a lot farther off. I honestly can't tell if your being malicious or just negligent, but your findings/numbers aren't accurate.

Regardless of all that, based on my numbers, it paints the picture of a top 50 Dman. And I was really impressed by the number of takeaways this man is getting each year.

Disclaimer: CRL does not believe any of these numbers accurately reflect Justin Faulk as a player

Its real simple wish guy. Go to nhl.com.... stats.... put in the years.... combine stats... and imagine that you have the totals by player. A 6 year old could do it.

  8. Over the last 3.5 NHL seasons here are Faulks rankings for the league:

    7th in goals

    37th in assists

    25th in points

    22nd in TOI/game

    34th in hits

    100th in blocked shots

    42nd in giveaways

    3rd in takeaways

He is clearly a top 30 Dman in the NHL. Not much debate about it. The weakness in his stats is blocked shots.

Faulk plays on a bad team that is offensively challenged. The Canes have been a bottom 10 team offensively for the last 3.5 seasons. He has been their best offensive player for most of his career. May not have to big name of some others but he is very good and would make us better. We are a much better team with Faulk than we are with AA. But that requires Holland doing something. Sadly I doubt he will.

  9. AA for Faulk? Yes. Or AA for Hanifan who also has been rumored to be available. I like Faulk, always have. He turns 26 in March so his best years are still ahead of him. In his last 3 full seasons he has scored 15 goals, 16, goals, and 17 goals. From the BL! Rhed shot and is signed for 2 more full seasons. Which gives us time to let more high end waste of money contracts expire: Nyquist, Kronwall, Ericsson, Mrazek, Howard, and Daley will all be gone/expired by that time. Plenty of time to resign him.

No he is not a #1. He is a very good #2.

Yes AA is fast. he is an exciting player. But will he ever be more than a breakaway specialist? He isn't much of a play maker or passer, which is why he has more goals than assists each year. Will he ever score 25 goals in a season? Heck will he score 20 in a season? Hasn't yet. He is only a couple of years younger than Faulk and plays F which is a position we have some depth and talent at, while we have almost none on the BL. This could be a good trade for each team.

You can pull a #1 C anywhere in the draft, but the chances of that plummet after the top 5 picks

Yes the % goes down, but that is yet to be seen. For whatever reason the second round is where you get a ton of great Dmen. As always the draft is a crap shoot. Lets wait for him to play a few seasons in detroit before we put him in the HOF or call him a bust. If he becomes a #1c or a #2c or a #1 f does it really matter? Nope. We need him to become a 25 goal + per year player. I dont care if it is as a winger or center or if its on the top line or second line.

BTW at the time of the injury Rasmussen had played 22 games and had 16 goals and 31 points. Just for a reference Tippett had also played 22 games and had 14 goals and 31 points. Point is same production.

Really? How many #1 centers do you see going in that area of the draft? Couturier? Nylander? Granlund? Grigorenko? Horvat? Jost? These are all number 1 centers in your mind? You're damn lucky to pull a #2 out of 8-15 in the draft, and you've defied the odds and hit the jackpot if you pull a true #1. I suggest you review your draft history.

The position doesn't matter. Larkin was 15th and is becoming a #1. Getzlef was 28th IIRC and he is a #1. But at the same time the Oilers have taken a bunch of guys with top 5 picks that were supposed to become #1 C or wingers that haven't.

This all depends on playoff scenarios. If he can only play 10 games with the Wings total, I would rather see him sent to GR. He can play more games there plus playoffs if they make it? Am I Right? Better option then IMO.

Not sure if the 10 games includes the mnors or not. I know Smith went to GR after last years Junior season. If he could play with the RW's for the last 8 to 10 and then go play the PO's with GR, maybe. But the way the Griffs are going not sure they are going to the PO's.

  13. Geno has 3 goals in the last 2 games. Lets hope he is starting to warm up! Still 40ish games left in GR's season. Love to see him get to 20+ by the end of the year. He has 5 atm IIRC. 15 in 40 or so is doable for a guy with his talent.

But if he stays hot for a while bringing him to Detroit after the deadline would also be good. Get him 20ish NHL games to get a better judge of where he is at development wise.

Fedorov was a #2 behind Yzerman.

Someone is going to have to be #2 on this team after Larkin (who will likely be our #1 in a year or two). Just because Ras could fill that spot, doesn't mean it's a bad thing as long as we have a legit 1-2 punch down the middle.

Malkin is a 2 behind Crosby.

  15. If Rasmussen can be back Feb. 15th-6 weeks, TC will have 16 games left in their regular season. His legs and endurance should be fine. TC's last regular season game is March 18th. As of March 19th the Red Wings will have 10 regular season games left to play. Per the CHL-NHL agreement, players can play up to 10 games per year and still go back to junior. So, once healthy go play at TC and finish the season. Then bring him to Detroit and get a 10 game cup of coffee. Then everyone can see if he is ready/close to being ready/not ready for the NHL next season. Junior and Minors is not the same. Lets get him some playing time and find out. Its not like he is going to hurt our PO chances.

I have a problem with misinformation and fake news. Like a fake news vigilante of sorts. I don't take it to twitter like our fearless leader, I take it to lgw.com

I understand that. But I also understand speaking in generalities and the difference between opinion and stats. If I say I see player X as a 60 point per year player does that mean he scores exactly 60 points per year? Or does that mean that over several years time he will average around 60 points. It could be 58, it could be 63, etc.... If I saw a guy is top 10 in the league does that mean he is tenth? 5th? 1st? That one gets hard becasue everyone has a different opinion of players. Who is the best player in the NHL right now? Ask 10 guys get at least 7 answers. So you group them. Far to many get far to upset about things that don't really matter-our opinions about hockey.

    With that, Happy New Year!

  17. 14 minutes ago, kickazz said:

So none of them are below #13 though? So you need to again correct your range from "5-13" to "13 and above".

Which means he's not top 10.

First you said he's top 5 on "most sites" then you said he's between 5 and 13 on most sites and now when you're giving us sources NONE of them are between 5 and 13. Don't count the bulls*** London Knights from 3 years ago btw lol.

You see why people calling you a liar?  You NEVER fact check yourself, you overrexagerrate and you almost always end up being incorrect  when you do go fact check.

Next time you should look the stuff up before you post, that way we can take you more seriously and have a somewhat healthy discussion. (I say somewhat because I can't promise anything if I'm feeling dickish)

Then way do you waste your time? If I am full of crap and do nothing but lie, stop reading. It really is that simple. Pretty simple really......

  18. I realize it is impossible for any fan to know every player on every team. So lets take a look at some numbers.

Over the last 3.5 seasons Trouba-everyones favorite white whale has produced the following:

    243 games, 23 goals, 65 assists, +18 +/-, 415 hits, 489 blocks, 107 takeaways

Over the same period of time De Haan has produced:

    252 games, 9 goals, 56 assists, +32 +/-, 452 hits, 583 blocks, 76 takeaways

Just for reference the overall rank for De Haan in the NHL is #33 in hits #5 in blocks #6 in takeaways. It might be safe to say that De Haan is a legit top 20 defensive Dman. Subjective yes. But the numbers do back that up.

Now what about Carlson? Over the same 3.5 seasons:

    247 games 32 goals-24th, 126 assists-13th, +30, 203 hits-not his game, 507 blocks-17th, 139 takeaways-11th. Those are legit top 20 Dman numbers for the league.

I am not expecting for us to land either. That would be too aggressive of moves for Holland. Both would make us much better.

For reference over the last 3.5 seasons our top Dman in each stat:

    Dekeyser 258 games

    Ericsson 368 hits

    Dekeyser 403 blocks

    Dekeyser 50 takeaways

    Green 25 goals

    Kronwall 77 assists

  19. Since people like to call me a liar. Here you go:

    Future Considerations #16

Central Scouting has him as an A rated player

    ISS has him #13

Hockey Draft Central #13 in December

Ryan Pike on Hockey Writers #16 in November

    Sportsbreak #13 in August

Sportsnet Jeff Maesk #13 in November

He was also the London Knights #1 pick 3 years ago.

Which brings me back to the point, he isn't a sleeper. He is a highly rated player. he has been for years. he is on pace for over 80 points this year for London. he will be taken in the first 10 picks in the draft and I bet it will be between 5-7. Save the post. I bet I am right.

Just for reference. Some other crazy things I have said over the last 5+ years.

tatar and nyquist are 40 point per year guys. Guess what they are.

mantha will be our pick. Called it about 5 months before the draft.

had Larkin in my final 3 possible for the 2014 draft months before the draft.

had svechnikov in my final 3 possibles weeks before the 2015 draft.

    way off in 2016.

didn't do much about the 2017 draft due to personnel issues. Called rasmussen as 1 of 3 possibles the day before the draft.

Was discussing the "swedish mafia" stuff a year ago. Got flamed. Now others on this forum are talking about it, using the term and wondering if it is true.

But hey what do I know. I lie about everything. Clearly.

Show me one semi-respected source with Evan Bouchard in the top 5. Hell I'll even settle for top 10.

Need to correct myself. He is ranked between 5 and 13th by most sites. In most mock drafts he is top 10. The highest I have seen him ranked is 5th.

He is having a big year in Junior to date. If that continues he will be a top 10 pick with a good chance at top 5 depending on order. Good offensive RHed Dman are gold.

  21. Before the day gets any older and we get any drunker..... lol. I do want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas! To our friends in Canada and the rest of the former British Empire, Happy Boxing day!

Yes we all love the RW's and love to talk. The best part is most of the time we do so without getting all personnel. Thanks for another great year talking about the Wings! Hope everyone has a great time this holiday season with their friends and family!

  22. 3 hours ago, kickazz said:

Sure, but this isn't amateur hockey. You either give 100% in practice and earn your spot and play-time or you get scratched or lose ice-time. You really think Blashill is going to put in Mantha with the mentality of "Well you're terrible at the PK during practice but MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, you might be good during a game" ? These coaches and players are pros, the job description comes with at least some form of rationality.

Anyways, what the hell is the point of putting Mantha on PK? I doubt he's even remotely interested in it. He's a goal scorer and for the most part he's being utilized as one. Would you rather have Blash tell him to be on PK, focus on his 200 foot game and ultimately reduce his 5 on 5 time? I guarantee you, you'd just end up bitching about it 5 months from now.  For the first time since Bowman era this franchise is actually letting a goal scorer be an actual goal scorer... Just be happy with it..

Anyways, all the other PKers we have are better at it than Mantha is. Larkin, Helm, Glendening, Nielsen, Abdelkader. And if for some reason none of those guys can't to go then my next option would be AA... not Mantha.

Hell if for some weird reason if none of those 5 nor AA can go then you put Zetterberg in to kill the penalty.

The HoF's in all sports are FILLED with guys that hated practice, came to practice drunk, skipped practice, brought pillows to practice, etc.... Now we have no idea of who is working or not working at it.

Giving Mantha 14 mins per game vs Tatar 18, Abby 18, Helm 18, and so on is not using your talent properly. It is wasting it. In this day with so many penalties being called, stars almost have to play special teams to get the minutes they need. Again, nothing to lose.

As for Blashill, LOL!!!!! He is still trying to win and thinks that playing old, broken down, expensive players is the way to do it. Last game Mantha had 14 mins of ice time and AA had 8. Think about that. Both of those guys should be 20 mins. There is 0 justification for less. None. Zip. Nada. That is 100% piss poor coaching.
