Message to Ken Holland...

Okay... I can't believe all the bad assumptions and mis-information this post had... First, Suter and Parise ARE best friends. Second, the likelihood of the Wings signing Suter is 90 percent. Signing both Suter and Parise is about 80 percent. Read these articles...http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20120524/SPORTS0103/205240354/1128/Wings-perfect-fit-Ryan-Suter-Zach-Parise http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2012/05/25/do-suter-and-parise-want-to-play-for-the-same-team/ Third, my point for the list was to show the Red Wings were never built around 1st round draft picks. In fact, we have had better luck in the 3rd round than the first! Fourth, offering $8.5 to Weber forces a small market like Nashville to over extend itself. This is why we need to first sign Suter...then offer Weber. Keep in mind...both Suter and Weber each play on the ice for HALF THE GAME! (30 minutes...keeping the other defenseman fresh) Our divisional rivals would be set back for the next 5 years!

I strongly disagree... Weber is Nick Lidstrom/Scott Stevens/Stu Grimson in one player.

    Message to Ken Holland...

Trust me... The Red Wings offer $8.5 million and 3 first round picks... Shea Weber is ours. Give Ryan Suter a long-term 6 million deal with his best friend Zach Parise... Ryan Suter is ours. This is the recipe for more Stanley Cups... Look at our past roster...it's filled with 2nd to 10th round picks. The Red Wings know how to draft in later rounds. Kris Draper for a dollar from Winnipeg! Kirk Maltby a trade with Edmonton in '95 for defenseman Dan McGillis! WHO IS DAN McGILLIS!!!! Vladimir Konstantinov 1989: 11th round, (221st overall) Sergei Fedorov 1989 - 4th round (74th overall) Keith Primeau to Hartford for Brendan Shanahan! Nick Lidstrom 1989 - 3rd round (53rd overall) Slava Kozlov 1990 - 2nd round (45th overall) Bob Probert 1983 - 3rd (46th overall) Joe Kocur 1983 - 5th Round, (88th overall) Johan Franzen 2004 - 3rd round (97th overall) Darren Helm 2005 - 5th round (132nd overall) Pavel Datsyuk1998 - 6th round (171st overall) Valtteri Filppula 2002 - 3rd round (95th overall) Tomas Holmstrom 1994 - 10th round (257th overall) Henrik Zetterberg 1999 - 7th round (210th overall) Jonathan Ericsson 2002 - 9th Round, (291st overall) Chris Osgood 1991 - 3rd round (54th overall) Jimmy Howard 2003 - 2nd Rnd, (64th overall) The best move was, LARRY MURPHY 1997 Trade for "future considerations." Murphy was essentially run out of town by Leafs faithful unimpressed with his defensive play. Detroit gave up nothing to get the future Hall of Famer - the Leafs even paid some of Murphy’s salary - but the move paid off big time for the Red Wings, who went on to win the Stanley Cup that year and the next. No silly... the fifth line on the list would not dress unless there were an injury.

Why Evander Kane is Worth the Price

I want four strong lines with a solid defense... I'm not sure you can do it by signing contracts around $7 million. Weber and Suter may be an exception because they're on the ice for half the game each night.

Why Evander Kane is Worth the Price

Excellent point... The Wings won 4 Stanley Cups because the other teams poor management. You all know for sure the Jets are smart enough to re-sign Evander Kane! LOL! Wings interested in Garrison

Here is a video of Jason Garrison
  8. This is the year Brendan Smith has to show something. Holland needs to structure the budget to either sign Brendan Smith to a big contract in 2013, or have room to sign a big unrestricted defenseman like Weber in 2013. If Brendan doesn't show anything special, I'd sign him to a comparable salary to Johnathan Ericsson. Then I would have several million to go after unrestricted free agent Shea Weber. With this strategy, Quincey, Bertuzzi and Kindl are toast in 2013. This strategy also requires the Redwings to hold off on spending about $6 million until 2013 off season. I really like a restricted free agents T.J. Oshie and Evander Kane because they are very young, tough to play against and have outstanding skills...plus you have room for the best defense in the NHL. Watch their videos below: T.J. Oshie of St. Louis, (26 Years Old)

Evander Kane of Winnipeg (20 Years Old) Kane is a 30 goal scorer on a poor Winnipeg team. He's restricted, but I think he's worth a very high price.
My Custom Lineup FORWARDS Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Johan Franzen ($3.955m) Evander Kane ($4.200m) / Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / T.J. What About = T.J. Oshie of STL., Evander Kane of WIN

The problem is the fans don't know the talent of Oshie and E. Kane, because they are so young. The fans always want a current big name like Parise. The problem with that is you pay a 40 percent premium for one player. I'd rather pay draft picks and young talent for players who are about to explode like Kane and Oshie. The funny thing is...I'd give up Pavel Datsyuk for Evander Kane. Kane would be 40 percent cheaper and 40 percent younger. Kane at 20 years old scored 30 goals on the second line in Winnipeg! If he was in the draft he'd go first overall! Instead...he's available on the free agent market! Winnipeg is foolish to allow him in the restricted free agent market.

What About = T.J. Oshie of STL., Evander Kane of WIN

What has made the Red Wings great in the past is that we could rollout 4 quality lines every night. In '97 we had Kris Draper (13), Darren McCarty (15) and Kirk Maltby (14) as our fourth line score 42 goals! Then we would come at you with Shanahan (28), Yzerman (24), Lapointe (15). Next the Russian five Kozlov (25), Federov (6) and Larionov (8) would wear you down. Then our third line was Brent Gilchrist (13), Holmstrom (5), Doug Brown (19). By the time the 4th line came out, the opposition was tired. And if they weren't tired, Joey Kocur would come off the bench and knockout a few teeth. Other teams hated to play us because we had so much depth. It was just line after line, night after night. Also keep in mind, we had the best defense in the NHL with Nicklas Lidstrom, Larry Murphy, Bob Rouse, Viacheslav Fetisov, Jamie Macoun and Anders Eriksson. The problem I have with signing Zach Parise around $7 million is that our depth gets thinner. Then you sign Ryan Suter for $6.5 million. Now the cap space is down to $12.8M. Resign Helm and Abdelkader each to a 1.2M contract... Down to $10.4M! Resign Kyle Quincey $3.25M... Down to $7.15M The roster would look as follows... FORWARDS Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Johan Franzen ($3.955m) Zach Parise ($7.000m) / Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m) Gustav Nyquist ($0.875m) / Darren Helm ($1.200m) / Danny Cleary ($2.800m) Justin Abdelkader ($1.200m) / Cory Emmerton ($0.533m) / Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) Drew Miller ($0.838m) / Jan Mursak ($0.550m) / DEFENSEMEN Ryan Suter ($6.500m) / Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m) / Brendan Smith ($0.875m) Kyle Quincey ($3.250m) / Ian White ($2.875m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) / GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) Joey MacDonald ($0.550m) ------ (these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $70,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $63,192,045; BONUSES: $37,500 CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $7,107,955 How do you handle the remaining 7 million dollars?
