    Babs got fired

    The problem with rating Babs is this guy was so very successful. But I also agree with @krsmith17 that his coaching-style is infuriating sometimes. On one hand 2 Gold Medals and two Cups don't come from nowhere. But on the other hand you could argue his first Cup ust came because of a J.S. Giguere playing the playoffs of his life and his second because of the combination of Lidstrom, Datsykuk, Zetterberg, Franzen and Hossa. The two goldmedals all came on stacked Canadian teams. How much of that is his coaching and how much his players? Hard to say. But there is no denying that he just wasn't the right coach for a young and talented Maple Leafs Team and a young innovative GM. And that is why I want him as far as possible from Detroit as we are heading very much in the same direction.

    Would you bring back Babcock?

    Babs likes a heavy grinding style. This team is headed to a speed and skill build. A firm and definite nope.

    Kronwall Officially Announces Retirement

    Here are the more or less interesting takes form the video: - he is proud wearing the Winged Wheel - he wants to compete with the "big guys", wants to be with the Red Wings - His role model is Scott Niedermayer, but he also loves the play of Roman Josi and Zack Werenski - he was raised in Erfurt and was then invited by Mannheim at the age of 14. His parents gave up their Jobs and moved with him. - the moment Yzerman took the stage his mom padded his knee and said "Now it's your turn." - he usually takes his time with things, doesn't feel any pressure. He is usually calm on the ice. - says it's an honor to represent Germany in the NHL - huge amount of talented prospects in Detroit - learned a lot during the prospect camp - he says he didn't saw a lot of the City of Detroit, but that you're near to Toronto and Chicago, that Lake Michigan isn't so far away and that there are areas around Detroit that are beautiful for sure. () - he still needs to get used being more in the center of media attention. - he is a little afraid, but also very excited coming to North America - is excited for the camps, they will decide what comes next after it - he doesn't rule out coming back to Mannheim, but it's only the third option after the Red Wings and the Griffins

    Kronwall Officially Announces Retirement

    I would do it, if I had the time. But I will watch the video and give you guys a summary. There is nothing funny about our language by the way. We Germans don't have fun. Ever.

    Kronwall Officially Announces Retirement

    He gave an interview to the German section of NHL.com. In it he stated that he will miss his parents, but they are only one flight over the Atlantic away. Guess where his parents live: Mannheim, Germany. So if he doesn't stay in NA, he will stay in Mexico our South America. Here's the interview btw: https://www.nhl.com/de/video/moritz-seider-im-nhl-interview/t-277542274/c-68750203

    Kronwall Officially Announces Retirement

    Hitting someones lights out will always be kronwalling to me. Does it really matter if he ever was "Elite"? Or if his number goes up to the rafters ? You know you had a great career if your name has become a synonym for hitting someone as hard and spectacular as you can.

    Howard = Average

    The problem is we need at least a decent enough goalie to win a cup. This goalie won't be Howard, he will be way too old then. I don't think Bernier is the answer. Lehner very well could be. If we can get him a a reasonable price we should take him and mark off one of the items on our to do list. That we should look and evaluate his season in Chicago goes without saying of course.

    Datsyuk for Redden?

    Where is @haroldsnepsts when you need him ?

    Howard = Average

    That's the Osgood plan. It might work. But we also should consider the Roy-Plan. Get a really, really great goalie (even if he is an *******) and ride him to a few cups. Or get something in between. If Lehner is available next offseason I'd consider getting him. Maybe not for $10M, but for $6-8M.

    Wings acquire Adam Erne from Tampa

    And is only 24. This is not your usual Holland Veteran plug. At worst he seems to be a bottom six type of player at best he projects being a skilled scond line power forward. Not bad for a 4th.

    2020 Offseason Rebuild Thread

    That is a pretty bold statement given that a team build by Yzerman just won the Presidents Trophy by a mile and almost beat a record held by a pre-cap Red Wings team, that was supposed never to fall in a league that promotes parity like there is no tomorrow. Yes, that team also lost four in a row in post season after that. It happens in sport. But four ******* games don't make or break Yzermans superb performance as a GM in Tampa.

    2019 Offseason Rebuild Thread, Pt. 2 - What's the Yzerplan?

    I wouldn't mind seeing him in Mannheim this season. But for his development GR is maybe the better place.

    2020 Offseason Rebuild Thread

    If Howard ends his career and if Lehner is still available and if we can get him that would be huge. But many many if in that sentence. As to be expected when you talk about an offseason that is still a year away.

    2019 Offseason Rebuild Thread, Pt. 2 - What's the Yzerplan?

    Well, Wright didn't set the World on fire here. Yes, the 2014 Draft netted us Larkin. But that pick would have been made by my grandmother and she is dead. Others in the 2014 draft class turned out to be busts with Christopher Ehn maybe the exception. Cholowski and Hronek (both from 2016) were good picks. But from 2017 we didn't sign 5 of our 11 picks after only two years. Hardly a vote of confidence. And the jury is still out on Rasmussen. 2018 looks more promising with Veleno, Zadina and possibly Berggren and McIsaac coming up. Wrights tenure had been reasonable good here, but he also isn't the Messiah Holland is taking with him. He also had the assets in several high picks to make him look good and failed to make use of them in 2017. It's far from sure that his drafting will bring us the successful rebuild and that is what we should measure him by. And if Yzerman trust Drapes who am I to argue with that, without having seen Drapes organizing his own draft.
