It's really not that hard to figure out. Having a couple million, and a roster spot, laying around might be the difference between a few more Marc Staal moves or not. Plus moving out trash, and moving more in, isn't blocking some kid either. At worst it's a lateral move. P

And then there's the signal that it sends to guys like Larkin, Mantha, Bert, Hronek, etc.

This is your team now boys.

Wings have caps space all the way from Detroit to Europe and the roster spot could have been freed by sending Abby to GR. Honestly I can't see any other reason than making a big move at Krug or other big FAs. Which btw would mean we officially abandon the tank.

I dont get this move. Why couldnt he just have been sent to the AHL? We would have gotten rid of his contract in 3 years, now its on the books for 6 including years that we may be a contender. Other then just being able to say hes off our roster, I dont like this move.

Exactly my thoughts. I hope Stevie is up to something with this.

Would be a great future top pairing. Yzerman needs to sack up and throw an offer sheet at his old buddy BriseBois, to acquire Sergachev (again)...

Would be great, alone or the entertainment value. :D But we all know it won't happen since NHL GMs are boring and timid as hell, especially when it comes to offer sheets.

  4. Was Howard a good, above average goaltender ? Yes. But that is not the point. He is old. And that simply makes it very unlikely that he will back to his former self. Could he maybe? Yes, as goaltending is voodoo. But the chances a slim. And we don't have to gamble on them, especially with the alternatives there are on the market.

Only thing that is in favor of rehiring Howard is, that we probably won't be a playoff team next season with or without him. So the negative impact of his hiring would be minimal. We could even help the tank with it. But it's not fair hiring a guy with that premise.

I actually had no idea his career numbers were that good. I think he's earned another year. It's not like it's a Dan Cleary situation.

It's exactly like the Dan Cleary situation, even worse. Goalies are more important than 4th-line wingers.

Well, tough crap.  It's an unusual situation for sure, but why reward teams because they may have made a playoff push?  It's not like these teams were deliberately waiting to make a move, like in horse racing, in the last weeks of the season.  Those teams are in that position for a reason.  Their play this year hasn't been as consistently good as the teams that will get in.

We have to look at this trough a political lens. The Board of Governors probably will have to approve the steps taken by the league. At least they will have a big influence on the decision.  And they will chose the solution that will hurt them the least financially.

Day 57 since Corona reached Seattle

I haven't wiped my bottom in 53 days now. The stench is becoming unbearable. I can't sleep. I can't eat. My un-wiped ass is literally caked in fecal matter. When the teepee wars began no one could have guessed how quickly the supplies would run out. It's a toilet paper desert here now, and those who stocked up on butt paper are in no better condition than the rest of us. Just yesterday I watched a man get dragged from his home and beaten to death with empty cardboard toilet paper rolls. It took the mob hours to finish him off. Those who raided his supplies we're wiping themselves in a frenzy with entire rolls all at once, like savages who had never once learned to use a spool.

It's like the dark ages here. Total civil degradation and devolution of man. Kiss your children, hug your wives/husbands, and pray you do not suffer the same fate as the pacific NW.

Day 57? I always thought this to be the usual behavior in Seattle. :P

This is sillier than the toilet paper craze.  Why the urgency to suddenly redo the entire playoff format in some bizzarre way?  Just take the 8 teams with the highest point percentage in each conference if the playoffs started today.

Only if you don't consider, that there is a lot of money lost or won for the teams concerning this. If the NHL finds a financial solution for the teams that are on the bubble but out of a playoff spot no owner or GM would probably mind playing the usual format. Otherwise the league has to get creative.

if the NHL suspends the rest of the regular season, but returns for the normal start of playoffs, these would be the matchups.

At least we'd get a couple good rivalry matchups....

    EASTERN CONFERENCE
    Bruins vs. Blue Jackets
    Capitals vs. Hurricanes
    Lightning vs. Maple Leafs
    Flyers vs. Penguins

    WESTERN CONFERENCE
    Blues vs. Predators
    Golden Knights vs. Jets
    Avalanche vs. Stars
    Oilers vs. Flames

    That Oilers vs.Flames matchup :w00t2:.

  10. We need many things to be back into serious business again. For not being as bad as we are we need to anchor our defense. If Danny DeKeyser is your best defenseman you're in big trouble. It's hard to predict who will still be available for us, but we have the capspace and we should make use of it.

Second thing we need is a goaltender. I think Howard is done. Maybe he gets back to his old self, but at 36 years that is more unlikely than anything else. I'm still a big proponent of signing Lehner on a 3-4 year deal. Again, we have the capspace and with 29 years he is still in his prime most of the contract. Geogiev is also an option I'd like to see here.

  11. Eric Lindros was once a sure thing and the next generational player. You never know with these guys, so being skeptical is anything but dumb. But I agree that Lafreniere , for what we know today, is the best pick in this draft by a mile.
