You can't have it both ways though... You can't go after the "quality" players if you're not willing to pay the "high dollar / long term"... Yzerman has done a fantastic job so far this offseason. He has signed some low-key good players to low cap, and more importantly low term contracts. He has acquired a ton of trade assets over the next couple years.
There is currently ONE player on the roster that is under contract beyond the 2021-22 season. That player is future captain, Dylan Larkin. That is a fantastic spot to be in, as a rebuilding team. 
Right now, I give Yzerman an A, because he did exactly what he should have done, when I'm sure the urge may have been there to get in on some of the high profile names. That can easily be upgraded to an A+, if he's able to acquire another big asset by trading for another bad contract.

It would be a "paper" move. I don't think they can forbid teams from demoting players.

I dont get this move. Why couldnt he just have been sent to the AHL? We would have gotten rid of his contract in 3 years, now its on the books for 6 including years that we may be a contender. Other then just being able to say hes off our roster, I dont like this move.

I said this in the other thread, but I would have preferred a Nielsen buyout over Abdelkader. 6 years is a long time to have dead cap on the books... Abby is also a mil cheaper, and a better fit as the 12th / 13th forward than Nielsen in my opinion...

Good thing about sucking is that you can have patience with these guys. There are open spots all over our defense for prospects to grab. We can let them all play and see how they fare.
At 25 there might not be that much more to come but we got the time to find that out. 

I agree with your overall sentiment here, but I disagree that Bowey has no future and no real trade value. Bowey is a decent bottom pairing defenseman that can chip in offensively. 17 points in 53 games from the back end, on a team that severely lacked offense, is solid production. I won't be too upset if we let him walk, but I'm on the side of maybe we should extend him for another season or two, to see if he can continue to build off of last season. If he can learn to clean up his defensive game, he could be a solid defenseman.
To be fair, Bowey is 25 and Hronek is only 22, but I do think both have room for growth.

This board is definitely slower then it used to be, but we are also the worst team in the NHL after being #1 franchise for 2 decades. Once we return to being contenders, I have no doubt that people will be back.

It's 1. for me, and it's not really close. Lafreniere is the best player in the draft, so it's a pretty easy choice. Elite wingers can drive a line just as well as elite centers. Take the better player.
Also, I wouldn't be so sure that any of the top centers would displace Larkin as the top center. At least not any time soon. Byfield *might* in 3-5 years if everything goes right for him, but I see Larkin as this team's 1C for the foreseeable future, regardless who we draft this year.

This virus has flipped my entire life, much more than anticipated, and chaos is the best way to describe the past few weeks. No matter what's done to fix this mess, it's going to "open up a giant can of worms"... I'm aware of the proposed fix. That doesn't mean I agree with it. To me, it makes much more sense to shorten the regular season, rather than extend the playoffs. We'll see what happens, but regardless how this plays out, you can be guaranteed there will be at least one team('s fanbase) feeling like they're getting screwed...

I haven't wiped my bottom in 53 days now. The stench is becoming unbearable. I can't sleep. I can't eat. My un-wiped ass is literally caked in fecal matter. When the teepee wars began no one could have guessed how quickly the supplies would run out. It's a toilet paper desert here now, and those who stocked up on butt paper are in no better condition than the rest of us. Just yesterday I watched a man get dragged from his home and beaten to death with empty cardboard toilet paper rolls. It took the mob hours to finish him off. Those who raided his supplies we're wiping themselves in a frenzy with entire rolls all at once, like savages who had never once learned to use a spool.
It's like the dark ages here. Total civil degradation and devolution of man. Kiss your children, hug your wives/husbands, and pray you do not suffer the same fate as the pacific NW.

not sure how i feel about this latest potential development.. but it would likely have less of an impact on next season. if they do this, hopefully only the 7 teams that don't make it get the top three picks raffled off. with all the extra odds going to last place of course
