let's face it.  We have seen far worse.  This is not out of reach, but they have to buckle down and SHOOT the puck and try to score, or the result is basically inescapable.  Jimmy has been stellar... he's been shelled and neither goal was his fault.  Ozzie said so.  I believe Ozzie would know.

Goaltending is Voodoo. I'm with @krsmith17: If we had our team set and the only missing piece was goaltending maybe then I'd take the risk picking Askarov in Round 1. But since that is not the case Yzerman should pass and rather load us up with a few goalie prospects during later rounds.
Whoever is advocating singing Holtby should take a look at his stats the last three years: .907, .911, .897. He is probably as done as Howard is. Will some dumb GM throw money and term at him regardless? Probably. But it shouldn't be our GM. 
I'm all for singing Lehner though, if we get the chance.

In 56 drafts the Detroit Red Wings have only once had Steve Yzerman running the draft. Steve Yzerman drafted Andrei Vasilevskiy.
I'm not suggesting late rounds, I'm saying not with what will be our highest pick in 30 years, with some elite (can't miss) forwards on the board. If we end up falling to 3 or 4, your boy Stutzel will likely still be available, and I'd much rather pick him, or a number of other forwards before Askarov.
If we can somehow grab another 1st round pick, and Askarov is still on the board, I'd be more than happy to pick him there. Not with a top 4 pick though.

I think Askarov is too risky of a pick with guys like Stutzle, Raymond, Byfield still on the board after the first pick. 

Whats with the Bernier hate?  I think he's exceptionally well... he's kept us afloat in games we've had no business being in...  Howard on the other hand has been a train wreck.

Yeah, if I had to choose between a Bernier extension on July 1 or a massive Holtby contract on July 1, I choose the former. That's one very specific scenario and not at all related to anything else. But please, keep on picking and choosing certain posts that fit your argument. 

I'd extend Bernier before throwing money and term at Holtby in 2020. f***. He sucks now. 

Why should this be considered a bad thing though? The All-Star game is a f***ing joke. You've even said so yourself. I'm not at all shocked that Larkin, or any other player would rather do literally anything, than go to that watered down, joke of an event. The only thing I'm a little surprised about is Larkin actually saying it to the media. I applaud him for speaking his mind though, and not being a robot, like 99% of the other NHL players.
Larkin is having a down year (stats wise), so I don't really blame him for not wanting to attend the "all-star" game, knowing there are so many more deserving players this season.

Seider is a madman.

Yup, he might be better for a few more seasons. But then again, he might not. Which is my whole point. This team isn't winning anything in the next few seasons with a 32+ year old average goaltender. They might win in the next few seasons with a 24ish year old goaltender though.
When you're a team in the position the Wings are currently in, you need to make decisions based on the future, not the now. 
Howard sucks, because he's old. Bernier sucks, because he's getting old, and was never great to begin with. Comrie sucks, because he's young and isn't finished developing. He might always suck, but he might not...
Anyway, I'm done with this. Agree to disagree.
