  1. Hello Everyone, Long time reader, rare poster. A buddy and I are making the trip down to Little Caesars Arena from Ontario on Thursday for the Wings/Leafs game. Was wondering if you folks could give me any tips on stuff to do while we are down there. We are staying overnight, and will be arriving hopefully around 4 PM Thursday. We are looking to get something to eat, and get a buzz going before we go check out the arena and area around it. Suggestions on places to eat/drink would be awesome. All suggestions will be appreciated, I do not wanna spend crazy money and do not really want to go to a dine in restaurant as time will be tight. Greasy food, dives, food trucks etc. Would like to go somewhere that is local, like classic Detroit if that makes sense. Also generally like all types of food. So after food, any suggestions for places to check out near the arena and in the arena itself while we wait for the game to start. After the game, would love to hit up a local bar for a couple drinks or if anyone can suggest something to do on a Thursday in Detroit. We are 24 and drink quite regularly so with that would love some suggestions. Also late night drunk food is a must. I wanna thank you guys in advance for helping me out. I do not get to the games nearly as much as I would like to and really want to make the most of this little trip. Thanks and most importantly, GO WINGS!!

Red Wings vs. Maple Leafs - October 11/2018

I have arrived. Had a coney dog at Lafayette, was unreal. Went to wrong end of town for beers, got hustled for 2 smokes and a beer within 3 minutes of getting out of the car. A hooker 100 percent been hooked in my hotel bed. All in all? Having a great time, go wings !!! Thanks everyone for your suggestions

Red Wings vs. Maple Leafs - October 11/2018

Loving the honesty Thanks Mr. Legs Thank you! I think that's where I hung out before I went to the Joe a few years back. So I was really drunk when I booked this and booked a hotel on East Jefferson. Do you know what that area is like lol

Coaching Search Thread a.k.a. the Jeff Blashill Thread

How does everyone feel on our assistants, Granato, Brewer and Hiller.. want them back? How much input does the next coach (presumably blashill) have? Do they want to be back? I think they all had one year deals. I dont really have a problem with them all coming back again. Some familiarity for the older players who have not been coached by Blashill couldnt hurt. Thoughta?

Babcock granted permission to talk to other teams

It's crazy I've never been so on the fence about a red wings decision as this one. Usually i have a very good idea of what I want, but I will cheer just as hard next season whether it's mike or Jeff or someone not named John tortorella behind the bench. Would love Dave Tippett but not at the expense of watching blashill go be successful somewhere else

Babcock granted permission to talk to other teams

Wrote a post longer than my most prized essay and it just disappeared and now I'm lazy so here's the short. I think we need to look at this from a family decision as I can all but guarantee the two most important thoughts are Mikes and his wife's. Nobody else is going to matter more. Period. Possibilities: A) mike and wife both want to stay B) both want to leave C) they both have opposite opinions. Now, we know that mike and his wife's first conversation on the topic of where he will be next year did not go well. This eliminates option 1 and 2 and leave only number 3. Next, I know I'm digging here but hear me out. I recently read, I can't find the quote but I believe I read it on this forum so help me out if anyone knows. Mike Babcock said something along the lines of: the easy decision for my wife and family is to stay here. They have friends, family and ties here. My son is going off to school and he wants to come back to Detroit for thanksgiving. Blah blah blah Now taking into consideration that they argued and what mike has said about what the easy family decision would be, one can assume(risky I know) that it would be his family and wife who want to stay and that mike does in fact want to leave. You know what they say about assuming, but that's my thought process and to me, it doesn't seem unreasonable.

    Now some gritty forwards.

I saw Adam Henrique at the bar last night and I mentioned how I was a little pissed that the wings are out and he said he's a red wings fan too and bought me a beer .. New Jersey would be stupid too get rid of him but it would a awesome

that would be an incredibly deep defense core thats for sure, i see less headaches in the years to come

    Next Seasons Needs/Team Future

I agree with this. Its not like Niskanens "breakout" season really came out of no where. He has built up to this point, my biggest concern on signing niskanen wouldnt be so much whether he will continue to have solid seasons but more along the lines of what we will need to do if the kids come along as we expect. What happens when oulette and sproul are ready? kronwall, dekeyser, niskanen ericcson, smith, oulette, sproul, marchenko and lashoff(easily demoted) ? i know they might not be ready next season but it is highy likely that two of our d prospects would be ready before the end of niskanen/ericcsons contracts. Alot of change will come over the next years and i for one am excited to have these problems rather than some other teams.

    Next Seasons Needs/Team Future

nyqvististhefuture: i could be wrong but i think you underestimate the circumstances around contract valuation. Keith and Niskanen are pretty unfair in terms of comparison for several reasons. A) 5.5 million in 2009 > 5.5 million in 2014 B) takes less to resign a player than to pick them from UFA C) Less pressure when signing an extension mid season rather than off season talks (no competition) D) home grown talent vs talent who is looking for a home to grow. After all that i still think most would agree that Keith is obviously better (including at the time he signed the contract) but to say Niskanen is not worth the money solely based on comparison to Keith is unfair. I agree that it is risky to be tied down to a somewhat "unproven" player however this complacency has got us where we are which is bounced relatively quietly. I'm not saying i want Holland (i love Holland) to be a Holmgren or anything but even with ALL Holmgren's questionable moves, his team is still arguably as good as ours. In regards to Niskanen i think he could be a good pickup, he basically adds Quincey's late season improved defense with slightly less than Kronwall's point production all while not being 5'10" and 180 pounds and has a RH shot. As a disclaimer i am still on the fence about Niskanen, i could easily argue in favor of him or against him while making valid points either way. This is why I am glad my decisions about hockey are not what will be putting food in my mouth.

    Ken Holland Quotes (Apr 29th

didnt see this in the quote list but i saw on twitter; helene st james said something about babcock along the lines of "he will coach the red wings or he will be assistant at university of michigan" so this just adds to my thought that if blashill is ready at the end of next season he will come up and babs will move on. Reassuring if babs really did go to UoM rather than another nhl squad, sure as hell wouldnt want to play against babcock thats for sure. "Mike Babcock says not worried about negotiating for extension, will either remain coach of Red Wings or be assistant at U of M/ Berenson" - Helene St. James that would be the tweet idk how to make it all fancy like you guys usually do shoulda read a little first, beat me too it flashy i feel like the right handed defense balance was a huge part of our downfall this year. having all lefty's on the back end handcuffs the wings to one side of the ice. The strong side for lefty's whichever that happens to be. It also makes a huge difference when trying to clear the zone, so if youre not two lefty's of high skill such as dekeyser and kronwall you can easily become trapped in your zone with weak clearing attempts when the other team pressures your bad side (see kindl and lashoff) seeing as theyre known as great friends id love to see the perfect human and homer come back at a later stage in their lives in some type of coaching aspect. One can dream

3/9 GDT: Red Wings at Rangers

Ask myself this same question and my only answer is when he can play more than 5 without getting a groin injury. Come playoff time I'd feel so much better riding a hot Howard. A groin letting out on the hot goalie (in all likelihood probably Gus) could break a series.

3/9 GDT: Red Wings at Rangers

Jealous but obviously happy for those attending tonight, I know its at MSG but man I'd like to see a hockey game where the guys next team me don't have a white leaf on their chest (and the tickets arent 300 each), anything but a white leaf for that matter. Always been my dream to see a game at the Joe. I hear its a dump but its our dump and if i don't trough piss beside a drunk guy in a McCarty jersey before we change arenas I might hang up the hockey fan skates out of embarrassment. Just saw the games already started so my 3-1 wings prediction is flawed, but i still stand by it. Lets Go Wings, every point boys. Mule, Sheahan and Dekeyser with the goals, with a good game from Howard.
