  1. I guess I'm saying trust me on Zidlicky, you'll like him. You'll note little smart things he does. He settles plays in his own end well. I've been watching his game over the last couple months and he does the right things at the right time.

This is correct and a great point. A lot of these people who want superstar player X because he scores this many goals and this many assists, that's not all that goes into a GM's decision. They don't make trades just by looking at stats on nhl.com

If Detroit got Mike Green in the offseaon, great! Babcock would have a full season to teach him the required defensive responsibilities of the game, the system and the team. One thing to think about, besides his offense, Green's hockey IQ might bot be that high. He might not learn the defensive side of detroit's system before the playoffs. Shooting and scoring come naturally to Green, where defense doesn't. Zidlicky might put up some numbers, but he will for sure be in the right place at the right time defensively, and when you only have 20 games to settle in, the defensive responsibility is a lot more important to have. I hope that made some sense.

  2. Really what is going on with this team? Today another episode of giving up 3 goals after a lead. it makes me pull my hair out. The old wings knew how to shut it down with a lead, these guys look like they quit playing after they get the lead and then have to pull a win out of their a**. Anyone else frustrated seeing this trend lately?

what can be done to fix this? Who is to blame? Where are my meds? Sick of seeing it.

The old Wings were the old Wings. This is a new team, with a couple of the same guys and a lot of new guys.

  3. Most of the comments here are embarassing. I wish a lot of people would either play hockey at a somewhat high/competitive level, or shut up a bit.

What has everyone here been crying for forever?

    "Let the kids play"

    "Get rid of Franzen"

    "Bench Cleary"

    Etc, etc.

Guess what? All of those are happening and still no one is happy. Hockey has ups and downs, you are not going to win every game and sometimes you're going to get smoked. It's a curve, especially with teams like Detroit who have players who are still learning what it takes. You don't figure out the NHL in a couple games, in a stretch of games or sometimes even in a season. It takes time. They're learning.

You think Pittsburgh is in a different class than Detroit(someone said this)? They have more talent, arguably, but they don't have leadership, heart, compete level and usually no work ethic. Have you watched all the games PIT has collapsed in? Have you taken a look at their record against their division?

I get that this is an internet forum and the point is to discuss hockey and the game at hand, but it doesn't HAVE to be a hyperbole tabloid styled bitchfest. It could be real discussion with thought, not ripping your favorite team to shreds because they didn't "punch Cindy in the face!"

  4. Looks like playoff Howard is back. Yeehaw

Playoff Howard? Is that a different person?

You know that power plays are designed for the team with more men on the ice to score right?

You also understand that Teemu Selanne is a pretty prolific scorer in this league? Also please understand that he's more or less made a career out of scoring some goals like that.

Just because Howard didn't make a save doesn't mean he's terrible. It means there are two teams on the ice and they're both allowed to score.

  5. He will pick up in

He will pick up in offensive production I would think. If you watch him play, as soon as he gets the puck he gets rid if it. He knows exactly where he's going as soon as he gets it, and after a while that will translate over into the offensive zone. He knows where his teamates are, the longer he's around the more familiar he'll get too. He may not pot 10 goals but I bet he gets a lot of assists, secondary assists.

  6. I am very impressed with DeKeysers positional and defensive game but he seems to lack confidence offensively. He always looks like he is more worried about making a mistake and backs off early instead of getting in a good position to shoot or pinch in offensively.

The technical term for this is called "playing your position"

  7. ..You also see the philly guy watching out for his teammate? He was on him instantly...wish Detroit had someone like that now. Too too doesn't count since he is never on the ice...

You and me both. I wish we had the same consistant team Philly ice's every year.

    http://www.nhl.com/ice/standings.htm

    Well, maybe not.

Also, I'd like to point out, everyone knows Philly is a scrappy team. Everyone knows if thet get fed up that someone on the Flyers will gladly hand their ass to them, or cheap shot them possibly. Even with all that info plain as day to everyone, that didn't stop Ryan White.

  8. I really don't like saying this, but it seems that this team is playing in the right division and the right conference in order to do what they're doing.

I don't think they have this record if they had to play LA/Anaheim/Phoenix more often. Or if they had to play Vancouver more.

They definitely wouldn't have this record if they played in the Atlantic or Northeast divisions.

Most of their games are against teams that can't really come close to matching up skill wise: Nashville can't score, we can't score, St. Louis can't defend or score this year, and Columbus is Columbus. Right place at the right time....

They play NHL teams night in and night out, the same as the other 29.

  9. Jason Krog lights up the AHL every year. It's the minor leagues for a reason.

I do think Nyquist should get more of a chance, but not because he can score in the AHL.

Isn't Jason Krog 35+ and has played 200 NHL games? Nyquist being considerbly younger and showing consistency over a 98 game span shouldn't be nullified because he's in a lower league. I think the technical term for this type of evaluation is called scouting.
