Wow! I have to laugh! I'm glad I don't have alerts set up when I'm tagged!
Weird that I said maybe a trade and maybe Cossa. I got both! I'm still tired at 1:50. I get on the road at 2:20 to get the GR for work. I'll have to read through all this and check out who's left for our 2nd round.
My hopes were Hughes or Edvinsson at 6 and Cossa at 22. Darth Yzerman must have felt a disturbance in the force and had to get Cossa earlier. So glad he's our GM.

NAH you gotta trade Bert for a 1st in 22/23 to a team that might crater that year

    COPE POST:
I'm guessing Team Yzerman feels Eklund is a winger. In which case, he's a tiny playmaking winger. In which case, if you're the Wings, maybe you say, "F*** that, we're solving our D issues for the next 12 years with this pick. Left-handed Seider. Let's go. Get rekt."

They are discussing changes to the draft lotto at GM meetings currently.
To your point, I agree. Just in time to help the Hawks with their rebuild.

I'm sure the draft lotto will magically need changing when we're in the position to jump other teams, similar to what's happening to us now.
At that time the league will suddenly see that its unfair thus screwing the Wings on the back-end too.

That first quote. Seems like ownership gave Yzerman orders to not overspend. Anyone else read it that way?

The question now is, where can I watch SHL games so I can build my Raymond hype to max levels?

Yay, I was expecting some weird, disappointing pick.
I don't think he's eligible to play here, contractual obligations in Sweden for at least one more year I think.

I hoped, rather than expected. Getting a little sick of watching trash. I usually don't get too wrapped up in the record. I find rebuilding a lot more fun than those 2011-2015 teams that were gradually declining with the same s***ting lineups. But it's hard to get excited about a season when you know, before the season even starts, that they already intend to tank.
Especially this season because it feels like FOREVER since I've seen the team play, and now on top of it when I finally do see them I know in advance that 2/3 of the roster will be old, mediocre, puds.
"Hey Red Wings fans, you excited about a new season?". Well let us throw cold water on that by reminding you that any given night you're going to see Helm, Abby, Nielsen, Filppula, Gagner, Glendening, Dekeyser, and Nemeth. Boy howdy!
It's miserable that the most exciting thing to happen to his team in two years is finding out that Robby Fabbri doesn't absolutely suck. Yippy.
Edit: On top of that we're about to draft Cole Perfetti, who is about 4 years away from hitting puberty, so god only knows when/if he'll be an exciting new part of the Red Wings roster.

There's a good chance Ottawa wants Drysdale considering they have no decent right shot defensemen on their team or in their system. But I'm not sure they'll take him at three considering it's pretty obvious that Detroit is going to take a forward. We're already all set on right side defensemen. I suspect Ottawa nabs Stutzle at 3 and Drysdale at 5.

Same here. I think anybody who gets him is getting a playmaking winger. Not something I'd be targeting if I'm the at the Red Wings stage of the rebuild. But apparently he's family friends with Kris Draper, and apparently the Wings are all about nepotism these days, so I'm sure he'll be our guy.

I still can't get over the fact the worst team in a generation is trying to read the tea leaves so they don't F-up the 4th over all pick.  Meanwhile a team that was literally twice as good as they were picks first.

And this one has us probably taking Rossi, which after watching his review on Scouching....count me in.

Well, Bob McKenzie hasn't said it. It's more like whispers + some mock drafts going that way.

^^^ Cam Robinson (mostly of Dobber Prospects, though I think he's trying to branch out) seems to be more dialed-in than most amateur scout blogger types, and while I suspect he's a dirty commie, I vaguely remember him being impressively ahead of the cuve about a few things re: the 2019 draft. If memory serves, he said Seider and Broberg would both go in the top ten and that the former would go before the latter. It's one of the reasons why I wasn't jaw-on-the-floor shocked when we took Seider at 6.
So, I'd say there's probably something to the Perfetti-to-Detroit talk. But at the same time, I don't think him playing in Saginaw and the Wings liking him a lot necessarily means a whole lot. Quinn Hughes was at UMich in his draft season and we didn't take him. Maybe Yzerman likes Perfetti more than Holland liked Hughes, but you get my point.
I guess I see Perfetti at 4 as a high-risk, high-reward proposition. The risk, I feel, is higher than I'd ideally like it to be, mostly because I don't like his straight-line skating and I don't like that he's a 5'10 guy whose straight-line skating I don't like. And I'm not confident he's an NHL centerman. But you'd be taking him for the potential payoff, and I do like the idea that he's a sleeper Datsyuk/Zetterberg/Pettersson. A player who's always the smartest guy on the ice, has an uncanny knack for slowing the game down, has great hands, is a great puck-protector, is lethal as a goal-scorer, is a lethal setup guy, always finds a way to manufacture offense, and is overall just a natural-born puck-possession beast.
I've been saying Yzerman needs to find a way to cheat and beat the rebuild prison system and score some massive victories, like getting a Pettersson outside the top 3. I've also said I hope there's a non-top-3 player in this draft that Yzerman and his people are over-the-moon about in the same way that the Canucks were over-the-moon about Pettersson — and that, ideally, this player has x factor qualities which are (secretly) so off-the-charts good that even if several aspects of his game are always going to be somewhat deficient, he's so overpowered in other areas that he's able to become a hugely and uniquely effective gamebreaker. Like Pettersson.

I really don't want Perfetti, I'm just not sold on him... I'd like to see one of Raymond, Drysdale or Rossi (in no particular order)

Well there's really only one center expected to be available at 4th overall that has that kind of upside (Rossi). Maybe two others if you include Perfetti (who doesn't even play center consistently in the CHL) and Lapierre (who's had about a zillion injuries).
Here's the thing with Rossi though. People say he's "two way" as some kind of slight when in reality he's elite in both areas of the game. He led the CHL in points, more points than Lafreniere, more points than Byfield, more points than Perfetti. He's a dominant offensive player.  AND his defense is just as good.  So are his face offs. So is his special teams play. If he were literally two inches taller he'd be in the running for first overall.  He has MUCH greater offensive upside than any center on our team AND he's excellent defensively. Which is why he gets compared to Backstrom a lot. 80+ point playmaker with world class defense is not an unrealistic ceiling for him.

Admittedly I don't know s*** about goalies, but I'd have to give a long hard look at Askarov at 4. If your scouts genuinely believe that he's going to be another Price/Lundqvist/Luongo then he absolutely makes sense at 4th. But I have no idea what the likelihood of that is.
Otherwise, there's no reason to overthink this. We need to take a center. We've been searching for a 2nd line center since Stephen Weiss. We have all the goal scoring on the wing we'd ever want. Mantha (if his dumbass would stop fighting) scores at the same rate as other top power forwards (like Ratanen) without half the talent around him. Zadina's goal scoring skills are obvious despite playing with total puds all year. Even our complimentary guy (Bert) scored over 20 goals. But we HAVE to get a center with dynamic offense. A guy that can kill teams on the half boards on the powerplay. A guy that can generate offense in all situations when you need it. I don't see Perfetti as a center. So it's either Rossi, Stutzle (if someone REALLY likes Drysdale) or (maybe) Hendrix Lapiere in a trade back scenario. The last one is risky because of his injury a year ago, but he was easily on his way to being a top 5-10 player before it.

I don't mind AA's on ice contributions one way or another.  He's one dimensional, he's a possession black hole, he barely tries, and will never, ever, ever, win a puck battle, he's not especially useful on the powerplay, and he's the ultimate passenger.  He hurts your team in a million ways, but he does score. All of which would be fine if he was like Michael Grabner and was content to sign 3-4 million dollar contracts and play on a team's 3rd line permanently. But I'm afraid he values himself a little more than that.  So good riddance.
Plus, he went to the Oilers and was almost immediately relegated to the 3rd line because he blows there too.

For every Carey Price there is a Rick DiPietro.
You DO NOT use a 4th overall pick to fill a hole that can easily be filled in free agency.
You use a 4th overall pick to draft players that are never available in free agency.
    That is all.

After watching a few games of his I'd describe his skating as clunky, It's not even the speed I don't like but the stride and overall mechanics. Can it be remedied over time? Maybe, I'm just not sure how likely that is as I'm not good at projecting what these young guys will look like in 5 years, I simply don't have the experience. So I take it at face value.
Other than that I'd say he plays a smart, methodical game. But my worry is how he translates that to the NHL pace. Like you said he can slow the game down, it seems to be the primary way he plays, but I'm just not confident he'll be able to do it in the bigs. So if I'm going to take a small center I'd much rather have Rossi, who I think varies the pace of his game much better while also being considerably stronger on his feet despite being smaller.
What I do love about Perfetti is his wristshot, his release is niiiiiiiice. Much prefer it over any of the others outside of Holtz. But still, just too many "ifs" for me for 4th overall. I could be wrong of course, lots of people who know way more than me seem to really like him. But outside of his production and shot I don't see a lot to be excited about.
