Trading Howard would be foolish. You want to ride Gustavsson, who has been bad far more often in his career than he has been good (as happy as I am with his play this year), and Mrazek, a kid who can barely find his ass with both hands and a map when it comes to NHL hockey? Whoever actually wants that...good luck to you.

Mental issues that a team like this shouldn't have. Plenty of veterans and a tough, hockey-savvy coach. Doesn't make sense to me. I just can't buy into the thinking that Cleary and Quincey cancel all of that out and turn us into an absolute s***show.

Babs doesn't have much of a problem with Cleary, either. Sarcasm was not unrecognized, however.

Not really fair to judge a team early in the season. That's when the flashes in the pan are still flashing and the teams that are just going through early-season issues or growing pains are still doing such. Keep in mind we didn't have Helm for much of that time. His value to the team is obvious.

In his defense, the overall point of his post is that we don't know whether or not Weiss played with this injury this whole season.

Well, at least we've established that he does suck. I guess it's all just a matter of degree.

I can't see those teams lasting. The East doesn't have many consistently good teams. Boston and Pittsburgh, you know what you're getting. Beyond that, very uncertain. And, unfortunately, we fall into that pack. Only difference being that we have a ton of injuries. We have to get healthy at some point, and at full strength, we're more talented and experienced than those teams you mentioned. In the NHL, the cream usually rises to the top. Flashes in the pan are just that, flashes in the pan. Hot streaks end. And so do cold streaks.

It's not enough to just say that they blow donkey dick and don't belong in this league?

The overall crap factor of the East will keep it alive. An undeserved playoff berth will turn into an early exit and more excuses from the old farts in charge.

Wouldn't be surprised if we lost all of those games.

Another thing I notice is that this team is piss-poor in games right before a long break. And I mean more brutal than usual.

One bad 5-minute stretch was all it took to put this team away. Pathetic.

He tried to soldier through the injury while others were hurt, but ultimately, couldn't carry on. That's pretty admirable. He doesn't need to be "fixed". Sports hernias seriously hinder a player. You can't expect him to be the same player he always was when he has one. I think it's remarkable he's produced what he has with this injury. He'll be back healthy and then his talent and effort will show through.

No question on this. Do the surgery now and give him every second he needs to get fully healthy. Stephen Weiss at full strength is something that could greatly help this team. Do it right and get him right.
