    Weiss

I may be in the minority here but I think it'd be easier for a player like Weiss to score points with Florida than it would be with Detroit. Weiss is not a generational talent. He is a solid hockey player. Here he is looked at and expected to be a solid hockey player that contributes some secondary scoring. In Florida he was "the guy" that was the majority of their offense. Same reason for the slight rise is Kronners stats after Lidstrom left (while playing better defensively) and Fil's increase with Tampa. When you're the top guy in your position on a team and you're expected to create offense you'll be on the ice when there is an opportunity to create offense. Last minute down by a goal, PP, etc. Here he is expected to create SECONDARY offense and he won't be on the ice when we have the best chances to score. Ie most 5 on 3's, last minute down by a goal etc. Now that doesn't mean he should be as brutal as he has been so far, I'm just saying I don't think he'll ever hit 60 points with us. Probably not even 50. When you're "the guy" you're given opportunity to be the guy. Here Weiss isn't the guy.

    Weiss

    27. Tied for 14th on the team. The sad part is Cleary, Sammy, Andy, and Miller all have as many or more. And the only people with a lower shot per game ratio than him are Toots, Glendening, XO, Almquist, Lash, and surprisingly Smith. Two of those are regulars in our lineup and Smith is only behind him by .02. 1.17 and 1.15 for Weisss and Smith respectively. So yes, he provides literally nothing at this point. Also I got bored so I calculated shots per minute played for every one that has played a game for the wings this year. Z = .17 Emmerton = .17 Tatar = .16 Dats = .15 Abby = .15 Mule = .15 Sammy = .15 Eaves = .14 Nyquist =.13 Toots = .12 Alfie = .12 Bert = .12 Helm = .10 Miller = .10 Glendening = .10 Cleary = .09 Weiss = .08 Quincey = .08 Kindl = .08 Kronner = .07 XO = .07 DK = .06 E = .06 Smith = .06 Almquist = .05 Lash = .03 So if you notice, immediately following Weiss, come every defenseman and no forwards. Weiss has the lowest shot per minute played ratio of any forward on the team, granted some have only played a few games and Emmerton would in no way keep up with Z in that race. Also shots/min played is probably a very useless stat, I was just curious.

I couldn't agree more. If the guy wasn't so big people wouldn't give him a second look.

Yeah, Emmerton is in. Bert's not ready.

Zetterberg out at least 2 weeks with herniated disc

Another thing this means is when we play Tampa coming up here the number one center match up could be Weiss vs Fil. That will be awesome to see.

First off I am suddenly more thankful than ever for Alfie. Obviously it sucks that Z is out but thankfully we have another great captain sitting in the room. Secondly as has been talked about we need Weiss to prove what he's worth. End of that story. Thirdly we need Howie to start playing like the Howie we saw at the end of last year if we're going to have any chance. Even with Pav and Z out we're not a terrible team, we're just not going to score as much. We need our goalies to steal a game or two. We'll be a mediocre hockey team while Pav, Z and DK are out, but if the guys we have left can put it together, imagine how good we'll be when they're back. Blessing in disguise boys.
  9. Whether we like it or not Bertuzzi will be resigned this offseason unless he retires. I personally like it because he plays well on the wing with Datsyuk and a great winger on the other side would work well I believe. Unfortunately I'm inclined to believe no matter how much he regresses Cleary will be resigned as well. It's just the way this team works. Also Mantha will probably be in GR at least to start the year. He may be an injury call up but Jurco will be on this team before Mantha. Another thing that came to me a while ago was about trading dmen prospects. Calgary is in full blown rebuild mode and wants prospects and/or young players. We have more promising young D prospects than we know what to do with. Almquist, Sproul, Ouellet, Marchenko, Jensen, Backman. Not all of these guys are going to fit anyways, especially with our young D but I think Wideman would fit nicely. Maybe package Kindl with a d prospect maybe Almquist or Jensen with a pick for Wideman at the draft while we wait for a few of these guys to be ready. That would give us hopefully a D of Kronwall Dk E Smith Wideman Lashoff/Ouellet This looks way better than what we currently have while not adding a whole lot of money to the cap. It also gives our young D the time for Kenny to let them become overripe. Also Wideman can be a legitimate quarterback for our second PP while we wait for Sproul. I'd prefer someone better than Wideman, but after having Q anything is an upgrade. Oh yeah and I know Wideman has a NMC, but I think to come go somewhere that he might have a shot at winning I think he'd waive it.

    11/24 GDT: Red Wings 3 @ Sabres 1

Actually, I don't hate this. I'm a huge Tatar fan but he's been mediocre the last few games. I would switch him and Cleary though. The Helm Abby Alfie line though I realized halfway through that I actually do hate this. With that said though we need guys to perform no matter where they're playing. Weiss should be out against the Buffalo's third line today and he desperately needs to show some value. Weiss in the 3 hole along with the first line are the only two things I actually like about it. I'm not sure why it struck me as not terrible at first.

    Lines Thread

These are the lines I like too. I would put Alfie with Weiss and Franzen with Helm. Mostly because it makes Franzen move his feet and that line was dominating other teams second lines a few games ago. This is more of a 1, 2, 2a, 3 situation to me if Weiss can find his offensive form. But I do agree with you that we likely won't see these lines.

Datsyuk and Zetterberg Moving Up Statistically

I think Pav finishes 2nd behind Feds IF he plays with Z or someone else that can create offense too for the rest of the time he's here. If not, I still think it's possible he finishes that high but more unlikely. Obviously depends on his health as he ages as well. I put Z finishing his career in 6th behind Sundin, Lids, Alfie, and both Sedins. Behind the Sedins simply because of games played though because Z is the best player out of the three in my opinion. And it's unfortunate because the longer the sedins career goes the more they creep me out, but that's a story for another day.

Would you want Moulson on the Wings?

Thanks. I've been around for a while just never posted anything. I just like to read the opinions. I know the organization "wouldn't" persay, but theoretically would that work?

Would you want Moulson on the Wings?

While on the topic of Sammy and waivers, I have a question for you guys. I assume it would be protected against, but then I could also assume it's not. Could Kenny waive Sammy and send him to gr until he gets hurt, then call him up and place him on LTIR to get rid of his cap hit? It seems like cap circumvention to me, but I don't know if there were any rules against this. If it's perfectly legal, what are we thinking not doing it? Theres a much higher chance of him getting hurt playing games than in practice. Seems like a pretty foolproof idea to me if there is nothing in the cba against it.
