    Forward Line Combos/Discussion

Nyquist-Zetterberg-Abdelkader Datsyuk-Sheahan-Tatar Larkin-Richards-Jurco Helm-Glendening-Nosek Sheahan has been playing some really great hockey lately and is used to the down low, hard area work. He opens space for Nyquist and Tatar now so let him open some for Datsyuk. Maybe Nyquist and Z together will get both of them going. 4th like can grind down low the whole game and has the speed and skill to wear down the opponents. The third line I have no idea if it will work.

Good effort by the wings tonight considering it was coming off the Christmas break. Let's continue it on Monday!

Jurco on Conditioning Assignment in GRs

The two weeks thing was just him correcting the reporter. Reporter said at least two weeks, he was just correcting the at least part.

Richards to return Friday; Athanasiou sent to GR

The points for Richards will come. I though he looked good for playing his first game in a while and he'll look better when he gets going again. I'm not too worried about that. I'm guessing that the logic behind putting Glendening with that line is that Glendening is a little better defensively and we were trying to hold the lead. I'm with you and I think it should have been Helm, or Nyquist, but I'm guessing that was the logic behind the move.

3 goals and an assist for Jurco in GR tonight. Hopefully this helps his confidence a bit.

    11/13 GDT | Sharks @ Red Wings | 7:30 PM ET | FSD

We skated well in the first and outplayed them for the most part in the first. Howard let in one he shouldn't have. The second was pretty even. They shut it down and outplayed us in the third. We didn't win any battles and we looked like we just didn't want it. We hit a couple posts and had a few good chances we just didn't bury any of them. We still can't hit the net. The defense still isn't great. Datsyuk looked like a great, but very rusty hockey player. Someone needs to remind Abdelkader what his job is. I don't actually think we looked terrible except in the third. We had chances to win but only got one bounce on the Pulkkinen goal. Oh also our forecheck sucks. And we need to spread out the talent on the PP.

You put way too much stock into plus/minus as a stat. Can it tell you something? Sure. But just because someone is minus doesn't mean they're bad. Remember that.

    Luke Glendening: Shutdown Extraordinaire.

Who cares about development, bro? These kids are fast, and Drew Miller sux. Have you seen his plus/minus? We need the kidz. On a more realistic note, Glendening doesn't help his teammates corsi for several reasons. Mostly it's because a lot of his toi is on the pk or out against the other teams best. He's not expected to score goals or get shots or possess the puck a lot. He's out there to frustrate the other teams best players and not get scored on. The other teams best players are going to have the puck, they're going to be able to shoot the puck that's expected. That's why he doesn't have a positive effect on people's corsi ratings. He's a defensive forward who gets under people's skin and he's good at it. He's doing his job just fine.

    Predict Where The Wings Finish

I don't know man I've won 19 straight cups. We'll finish somewhere between 4 and 8, probably fifth or sixth.

    Mike Green out 2-3 weeks

Actually, the NHL is for guys who can skate. Erik Karlsson, Tyler Johnson, Johnny Gadreau, etc are not big guys, but man can they skate. We didn't get beat by Wayne Simmonds last year in the playoffs. We didn't get beat by Raffi Torres and Dustin Byfuglien. We got beat by 5'8" 180lb fast as lightning Tyler Johnson. So you're just wrong, sorry. Ask the Bruins how being big and bad worked out for them. Maybe we get hurt more than some teams, but that doesn't mean we should go trade all our small guys for big guys simply because they're big.

    Roster Moves by the Wings

Drew Miller is a fantastic defensive forward and an excellent penalty killer. Our PK being bad has nothing to do with Miller not belonging on this roster and a lot to do with some of the other guys being terrible on the PK. Miller plays a necessary role that I don't want any of the other guys you listed playing because Miller is better at it than they would be. The truth is we take penalties. We then need to kill those penalties. Miller is better at it than most of the guys we got. He fills a role, hence, role player. Not wanting Miller because he's not as good overall as some of those other guys is like not wanting a kicker on a football team because he's not as good if an athlete as some wide reciever. It's stupid.

    2015-16 Prospect Watch

Saarijarvi continues to light up the OHL. Scored his first goal last night and followed it up with another goal and an assist. 14 points in 9 games is good for 4th overall in league scoring and 1st among defenseman. Let's hope he keeps this up.

    Roster Moves by the Wings

I do. Through Justin Abdelkader first 126 NHL games he had 10 goals. Now he's playing a top line power forward role. Jurco is learning how to be that and I don't think he's doing a terrible job, especially considering before he got to the NHL he never had to be a power forward. It's a process. He's learning. He'll be fine. When he gets to be Abdelkaders age he will be better than Abdelkader is right now. Bank on it.

McDavid with a dirty hit not called.

If his name was Raffi Torres he'd be suspended for that hit.

    10/13 GDT : Lightning 1 at Red Wings 3

Ahh yes, the old "give me ice time and I'll produce" vs "produce and I'll give you ice time." A classic, really. I feel like we've had a similar argument with krsmith about one Brendan Smith in the past. Also, I agree with you. He needs to make things happen out there when he's out there.

    Roster Moves by the Wings

Doubt Helm plays tomorrow. If he does I think Marchenko will go down on paper and we'll waive Anderson tomorrow. Not enough time for anything else and I doubt Larkin will go down.

    10/10 GDT : Red Wings 4 at Hurricanes 3

I don't know about this actually. Sure, Pulkkinen scored two goals, but I thought for the vast majority of the game he looked really bad. I mean the team in general looked bad but I remember noticing Pulkkinen specifically on several occasions looking terrible. So much so that I commented on it and how I thought Jurco should be in for him on Tuesday. And then he scored twice, so I don't know. I just don't think he played all that well even considering his two goals.

    3-on-3 Lineups

Currently? I'd do Z-Gus-Kronwall Richards-Tatar-Green Larkin-Smith-Pulkkinen. Pulkkinen will actually have time to use his biggest weapon with that much open ice.

Dylan Larkin on opening night roster

I agree with this. I think he and the Wings know that this is probably temporary and if he wants to stay he's going to have to blow people away. He has about a month to do that and it'll be fun to see if he can.
