To tell the truth, I'm happy about this. I don't want a division rival winning the Cup. I didn't want the Stanley Cup in the south, getting gawked at by mildly bemused tourists and local swamp rats. I don't ever want to hear "The Stanley Cup gets a sun tan" ever again. *Puke*. I don't give a crap about "Stevie winning one", because he stopped mattering to me the second he started working for a rival organization. In short, NOTHING about Tampa winning the Cup would have felt good to me. I don't care about their players, coach, staff, GM, city, or state.
Secondly, I don't feel threatened by this. At all. The new Chicago dynasty is (so far) more impressive than our dynasty from 97-08. So what? We still won 4 Cups in 11 years, had top end talent to watch, and made the playoffs every single year. It's still SUPER impressive. Just because the 80's Islanders weren't the 80's Oilers doesn't make them any less awesome. This just put a stamp on something we all already knew. We're no longer the league's model franchise. Oh well, doesn't make our run at the top any less impressive.

Don't get me too wrong those players are good, Fedorov was probably born on skates. I wouldn't have lifted an eyebrow if he skated in an individual program in the olympics.
But they are not generational players. Like Howe. Like Yzerman. Like Lidström.

Hockey in Russia was once a sport, now it became politics.
I remember watching 1972 Canada - USSR Series. There were a lot of respect from both teams, there were a lot of not-understanding, even hatred, politics for sure, but respect nevertheless.
The way these boy behave, there have little respect to the opponent (especially US and Canada, but Czech and the rest of former-soviet block as well) and I'm not sure when they disrespect the opponent more - when they lose or when they win...

The series goes to 7 games. The first 6 are 1-0. All goals are scored when the puck bounces off someone standing in front of the net pointing a finger at an opposing player and whining about something.
By game 7, they have all learned to stand and cry without pointing. In the intermission before the 7th overtime of a 0-0 game, Steve Yzerman visits the locker room and asks to speak to Filppula. He has brought with him a medium who looks deeply into Flip's dreamy... blue... ey...........

Yes, Wings clinched. Frankly, I've had little doubt they will.
The question how they did it.... How they have played last couple seasons, last couple games.
It frustrates me more each game - dump-and-chase tactics, enter the zone and dump it, and chase, chase, chase...
Last game I calculated how many times they dump-and-chase and how many times they've got a possession after that. Less then 30%!!!
This team used to play smart hockey, now they are dumb and dumper.
Can Babcock do better?
If he can - then show us something smarter in the next 5 games, please...
